I have a question:
when i run outside i tire more easily than i do on a treadmill. i know this is because outside has more inclines so i have to work harder, but if i am able to run longer on a treadmill because its a flat surface, am i getting more of a workout running on the treadmill than outside? |

the treadmill I use has a hill interval feature that I will set to level 4, but I still feel that I get more out of running/walking outside.
If I do use a treadmill to walk, I will use 2-3 pound weights (arms) and that will break out a sweat faster. |

I posted an answer to this same ? in a journal a few weeks back...
Treadmill versus outside huh?
Remember the treadmill actually does some of the work for you... the belt helps with your forward motion... the deck is "springy" and returns the energy to your legs so you don't really tire as quickly. There is no wind.. no rain...
Outside.... it is all you!
You're responsible for every bit of forward motion, and the hard ground... sucks energy from you... there is no energy "return".
And the weather can also make it tougher!
You can make either as hard or as easy as you like, however.... |
