DebbyC wrote: megnliz unless you LIKE ff cheeses, I'd look for the reduced fat and/or cheese that has less than 6oz fat per 1 oz serving. and check the balsamic spray to make sure it meets the sugar requirement [which I can not remember off the top of my head, so go back to the stickie and check!!!]

When I started, I printed off a lot pages of the stickies, and/or cut and pasted the important information - like the cheese and dressing info - into a shopping guide. It makes much more sense than going to the store and 'thinking' you have it right - for example....I had tossed back and forth between WW core and SBD - decided on sbd but when I got to the store - I blanked and bought 2 tubes of polenta [okay on core] so now I have to find someone to take that off my hands...or end up tossing it.

Thanks, good adive. Which sticky is it?...pretty new here, haven't found everything yet.

at the top of the phase 1 page, there's a thread - stickie, phase 1 faq or something like that - dozens of links. Then when you get bored with that!! go to the recipe/food section and look at the hundreds of recipes - just make sure to check which ones are p1 vs p2

umm.. the ones Debby, Kimboroni and I mentioned about 10 posts ago! ;) Kim also keeps a link to them in her signature. "sticky" threads are always at the top of each of the sub forums here. that's what makes them stickies!! :) We put this tricky title on it "Phase 1 FAQ - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING!" so that people are sure to ignore it. ;)

you'll get all kind of good advice on here, some of the best from the people who initially don't overwhelm you with flowery kindness.
Personally, I try not to read the 3rd thru 20th new thread every day that starts off - is this okay or what can I eat or is this on the list? But its early and you were the first I saw....trust me in about 2 months you'll wonder - doesn't anyone read the information first?
its kind of like - I want to re-do the engine on my car....think I should get the manual or just go around asking!!!

I bought the book last week. So I'm guessing it's an up-to-date version. I don't know though, because the most recent copywrite date is 2003....hmm

But I do like the lists here. More lengthy, give a little more variety :D

As far as understanding nutrition and reading labels. Its going to be something you have to get good at. You cant have someone hold your hand everyday.

My recommendation would be to go buy the new book and read that 2 more times. Also read the stickies at the very least. The amount that I have learned from reading even other posts is amazing.

You will see recipes that are labeled as south beach diet that really arent. Once you know what you can and shouldnt have you will be able to look at ingredients and know, not to mention you will know what to substitute too.

I spent about 2-3 weeks preparing before I actually started the diet so I could go in with the knowledge I needed.
