How am I ever going to be able to continue this WOE if the prices keep skyrocketing? It is crazy, $5.50 for a gallon of milk!

I think it's crazy that a gallon of milk costs more than a gallon of gas... How much is milk in your area? Please tell us where you live. Oh, and a half gallon is $3.49 here. Might as well say $3.50. Even the dry milk is going up!

YIKES!

Hey, does it taste different? I've always wanted to try it. My mom does NOT drink milk, ever...but as a kid in Germany, they drank it straight from the cow, and she said it was HEAVENLY! SO much better than even Whole D milk! So I'm wondering, is it really better? Could milk get better? I'm a milk drinker! Oh, I bet it makes some killer ice cream!

it's 3.22-3.50 a gallon here for fat free store brand milk. Organic is about 7.30 a gallon.

I don't think that it tastes much different. But it is 6% milk fat. It makes killer Hot Vanillas, and a heavenly peanut butter milkshake (SB w/ ricotta). Raw milk doesn't follow SB in that it's not low fat... but it's how we live.

2.54 per half gallon. But it's milked the day before and delivered in glass bottles to our door once a week, so they are probably more affected by gas prices than larger outfits that aren't responsible for direct to customer delivery vans.

I can get two gallons of the least expensive NF milk for $5.70 even when it's not on sale. And I'm in California. (Maybe it's our happy cows?)

A few years back, thrifty people were using nonfat dry milk because it was cheaper than fresh. Some people would mix it with fresh, to get something that tasted more like what they were used to. Changing prices made that not such an attractive option. You might look, though, and see if it's a good idea again. Even if you don't care for the taste as much, NF dry milk is fine for things like cooking, hot chocolate, or adding to coffee or tea.
