New Beginning for Old Problem

This is my first day on SB. Last night I went out to dinner with my hubby at a great Italian restaurant and this morning found I had gained 3 lbs! I didn't even eat the pasta that came with the main entree.
I am excited about beginning a meal plan that is low fat along with low carb as I was successful on losing with Atkins a few years ago, but am going to take a more healthy long-term approach and don't want to try that again. Spring is here and those summer clothes are going to reveal things I don't want others to see.

Today is day 1 and I started the day with scrambled eggs and salsa. Have to admit it filled me up and I'm sure it will stay with me until my next meal or snack.

I bought the SB book a few years ago but never got around to reading it after I decided on the other diet and now I can't remember where I put it.
Fortunately, there is so much information on this site that I may never miss that book.

I am currently 153 lbs. and want to get down to 124 lbs. I am just under 5' tall, so I think that will be a good start for a goal weight.

Beginning day 3 of SB. Yesterday was an OK day but was made difficult when I went out to dinner. The restaurant we picked did not have an extensive menu so I limited myself to the safe food that I assumed they couldn't add sugar or breading to.
Today will be another challenge as it is a weekend and I will need to cook for two additional people besides myself.
Will try to keep on track with vegetables and proteins.

Can you believe the restaurant caused the 3 lb gain? I can for sure! Eating out is scary! Just chiming in to wish you continued success :o) I have some additional ones to cook for as well. It can be challenging right? But you can totally do it!

Thank you for the encouragement PixiesMom. I know the restaurant didn't cause the gain, it was what I chose to eat.

Well this is Day 1 again as I blew it yesterday and decided to start again. I was doing so well until I ate a few gourmet jellybeans  then it was all downhill from there.

Day 1 Continued.

I realize now that I need to make some resolutions that will become routine in the days to come. So beginning today I will:
1) Not weigh myself every day
2) Write down everything I eat to make sure I get enough good stuff.
3) Resist temptations by not getting too hungry (schedule snacks)
4) Drink more water and less coffee
5) Walk, walk, walk - or ride my bike
6) Stick to my shopping list
7) Plan my meals for the day
8) Stay motivated by logging in and reading more about SB
9) Did I say walk? Will also get those Yorkies walking more too as they are getting a little chunky. :)

June already! Time to make some adjustments. I did so well the first week and then the celebrations started; weddings, graduations, birthdays... I have too many excuses that justify my lack of success. Well that has got to stop. I need to get serious and start over since I have not stayed with SB for the last few weeks and my weight is the same (or more) as when I started. Since I can't decline all future invitations to these events, I need to get a handle on what I will eat when the only thing on the menu is drenched in cream sauce or covered in buttercream frosting.

OK, lets analyze this. I still have cravings so go back to the beginning and start over since I didn't make it through the first two weeks? Sounds like a plan. So this is DAY 1 - again. Or tomorrow will be since I already blew it with the Rice Chex this morning. My goal now is to make it through the 1st 3 days.

Finished my 2 week induction period on June 18th. After the 1st 3 days it got much easier to stay on track.

My weight loss for the two week period was 4 lbs., which for me was great considering that it is a healthy 2 lb. per week loss.

I am currently adding berries to my diet but will not be able to add the whole grains. I do have a problem with sensitivity to wheat and a family history of Celiac Disease, so I will not be able to add whole wheat bread or other gluten containing products or oatmeal. My additions to phase 1 will have to be brown rice and sweet potatoes and more choices in vegetables. I anticipate this will not be much different than Phase 1 with the inability to add anything that might contain wheat. I do have flax-seed flour and other non-gluten grains, so I will need to scan the recipe section to see if there is anything I can make using those.
Haven't found a gluten-free version of SB yet.

quinoa (keen-wah) is listed as a gluten free grain at about.com (don't know how good a resource that is though) and is SB friendly and kind of a "super food" in it's own right. might add another option.

here is the list of gluten free grains/starches at about.com and what I know about them.

Amaranth - avoid
Arrowroot - don't know
Buckwheat - OK 100% buckwheat soba noodles for instance.
Chickpeas (Garbanzos) - OK
Corn - Limited (both grits and cornmeal listed)
Flax - OK as seed
Flours from nuts/beans/seeds - OK in P2 as far as I know
Millet - avoid
Potato starch or flour -avoid
Quinoa - OK
Rice (and rice bran/flour) - OK (even white long grain converted is "good")
Sago - don't know
Sorghum - don't know
Soy (but not most soy sauce) - isn't this a bean? ok.
Tapioca - don't know. don't think so.
Teff - don't know

you might also try sending a PM to user lorka150 who used to frequent this board but is not around a lot anymore so you may wait for awhile for a response! ;) But she has a lot of food allergies/restrictions and has found a way to still make SB principles (if not exact food lists) work for her. Also there are several celiac type threads in the health and medical forum. you might find some help and support in those threads as well.

good luck and best wishes.
