This is just a little idea that I had the other day, after seeing a McDonalds commercial. I was thinking of how much I missed by Big Macs!!!!!!!!! It's super simple and I can't believe I never thought of it before. So, I made this, and my Big Mac attack went from fat to fit!
I made 2 ground sirloin patties, stove top in a pan sprayed with Pam.
I topped them both with a slice of 2% reduced fat amercian cheese.
I diced and lightly sauteed white onion in Pam.
I shredded lettuce finely (just like Mc D's).
I stacked the burgers, added the slices of dill pickle, the onion, the lettuce, and sugar free thousand island dressing (store bought, but you could make your own).
Voila! The Sobe Big Mac! |

You know the other thread where we talk about how easy it is to follow the spirit of SBD while actually blowing it? Voila...fake Big Macs.
You would be eating 400cal, 15g of fat, and essentially your entire RDA of protein -- 55g, in one meal without getting a very good balance...few veggies, etc, etc. |

| I need you to come and be my nutritionist!!!!! You are sooo good with the calories and exercise, etc. Do you think I should weigh out my food? As far as the spirit of the diet, should I follow the menu he suggests exactly for each day? (By the way, I'm not normally that bad with my diet, last night's dinner was fish and green beans.) I like your advice....what do you think about the "I can't believe it's not butter"? I usually use 2 tablespoons a day. Is that bad? What about the reduced fat cheese? A good snack, or should I watch that too? He says in the book that you should eat enough to be satisfied. I'll tell you, I'm hungry right now! |

ICBINB spray is fine. for solid spread use Smart Balance or I prefer Earth Balance.
the guidelines for fat are 1 tsp at breakfast 1 tablespoon at lunch and dinner (or 2 tablespoons of SBD legal salad dressing)
cheese should have 6g of fat or less per serving RF is fine if it meets those guidelines full fat is fine if it meets those guidelines. while i use RF swiss I use Full Fat feta because mine is only 4g of fat per 1 oz
cheese is a calorie buster esp. if you only have a little to lose. if you are hungry you should eat... |

No, you don't.
drmelanie wrote: You are sooo good with the calories and exercise, etc. Do you think I should weigh out my food? As far as the spirit of the diet, should I follow the menu he suggests exactly for each day?
I would never weigh my food. That seems like punishment. I have not and would not follow the menus in the book.
drmelanie wrote: I like your advice....what do you think about the "I can't believe it's not butter"? I usually use 2 tablespoons a day. Is that bad?
I don't use it. I try not to use anything fake and pretty much use real food like maple syrup and honey when called for. I don't think real butter is particularly great for you, so I use very very little, and seldom. Or, I skip it.
drmelanie wrote: What about the reduced fat cheese? A good snack, or should I watch that too?
Part skim cheese is a good choice. It is very calorie dense and you need to watch your intake.
drmelanie wrote: He says in the book that you should eat enough to be satisfied. I'll tell you, I'm hungry right now!
I would never, ever be really hungry.
I think that a good menu should be common sense but it just isn't in this country. Look at your plate. 1/4 of it or less should be lean protein. Maybe 1/4 a whole grain. The rest veggies. You should be eating salad until it's coming out your ears. Tweak from there. |

| Where do you live? There is a store in Ft. Lauderdale called DeLites that specializes in low carb and sugar free food. That's where I found the dressing. It's just sugar free ketchup, the sugar free relish made with dill pickles (they have that at my grocery store), and mayo. Which as you all know, I was an Atkin's follower. So, I'm still confused about mayo. Atkin's would say that the reduced fat or fat free has too many carbs. Which mayo should I be using sparingly on the SoBe? |

Any full fat or low fat mayo without added sugars...full-fat serving size is 1 TBS... low-far serving size is 2 Tbs.
(avoid varieties made with high fructose corn syrup)
Fwiw... here is the phase 1 list of foods that may help...

.... no ketchup is sugar free... (tomatoes...fructose) but the "no sugar-added" ketchups are fine.
Many of the "low-carb" ketchups, sauces, etc. do fall within the SB guidelines (even though this is not carb counting).... reading the labels is huge!

Ok, ok...Can everyone stop pouncing on me like a pack of lions in the jungle??? First of all, I have read the entire book and cookbook. You are allowed to have 2 servings of reduced fat cheese. Calcium is important for your body's continous bone remodeling. Plus, you are allowed to have ground sirloin. You don't know my portion size or what else I ate with the meal. Two weeks ago, I would go to McDonalds and order 2 big macs, a supersize fries, a 9 piece chicken nuggets, a hot fudge sundae and apple pie. That is just an example of my previous lunch! I would eat like this for all three meals of the day. Plus, I can polish off an entire bag of oreos in one sitting. I only ate this once in 2 weeks. Right now, on the diet, you don't know what I eat the rest of the day. My snacks are small portions of cut up grilled chicken breast now. In addition, I NEVER exercised before and I now I do an hour of cardio and then weights. I am posting pics of myself. I'm not this discusting fat cow that you all are making me feel like. We are all here because we are trying to make better choices for our health and to lose weight. I have never met a group of overweight (or formerly overweight) people who are so insensitive! I'm trying here. Stop attacking me!!!!! The point is not to try and make me quit the SoBe diet and go back to my previous way of eating, correct? If you cannot offer a kind word of support or a helpful suggestion, then why do you comment? It's o.k. To the people who are helping me, thank you. To everyone else, you'll see...it just gives me that much more motivation to show you all that I CAN and WILL be successful on this diet (OH, EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!! Diet seems to be a discusting profane word on this site. I meant "lifestyle"). All of these pics are within the last year, and I'm turning 32 years old.
112lbs, I'm the brunette. P.S. My sis (blonde) is a size 4, for comparative purposes.
120lbs
This is me now!!!! Obvious Halloween pic. I'm 5'2 and weigh 150lbs.

you can eat those things sure but throughout the day
SAVING your food to have a BINGE at the end of the day or eating less after a binge early in the day is not a good idea.
as a former BINGE eater (and I come from a family of serious food dysfunction) I can sympathetize with your unhealthy relationship with food and your desire to get healthy.
Of course the key is to learn to like new and healthy foods not figure out a way to replace the unhealthy stuff with pseudo-healthy stuff.
the thing is drmelanie, maybe if you were a disgusting fat cow like me you would GET it.
if you understood what this lifestyle change was about you would not be so busy trying to come up with fake food to mimic the food that nurtures your needs.
i'm sorry that our desire to help you be the best South Beacher you can be has struck a painful nerve in you.
we have been helpful
if you want to eat this have 3 oz of protein that would be 2.5 oz of lean meat and 1/2 oz o cheese NOT 2 patties (probably 6-8 oz) and an additional 2 oz of cheese that's probably 10 oz of protein and that's TRIPLE the recommended amount.... |

| By the way, some of you have scared me so much that I'm afraid to eat!!! But, then you say...no, no, no. Don't stop eating or your metabolism will freeze up on you. It's complete bulls**t that everyone has an egg white omeletes full of veggies for breakfast, a salad with veggies, a small amount of protein, and no dressing for lunch. Oh, and for dinner salmon and veggies. Oh, and 2 pieces of lowfat cheese for snacks. Everyone only drinks water. You all actually count out every f**king day 15 nuts as a snack....FOR 2 YEARS!!!!! Yeah right!!!!!!!! I would be carefeul of encouraging people to stop eating so much lean protein, be afraid of light cheese, and just eat tons of veggies. Oh, and a tiny bit of beans...that won't effect you glycemic index! No one can eat for the rest of their lives the way that some of say you eat. Salad, of course NO dressing!!! Everyone is afraid of having more than 1 tablespoon of fat per day, forever??????? Oh, and everyone exercises like crazy!!! Some of could push people into an eating disorder! Plus, I'm on the SoBe diet website. If I wanted to be annorexic, I would go that website that teaches you how to be the best darn annorexic or bulimic you can be! (obviously that was sarcasm, but there really is a website with instructions). I know I sound mad, and that's because I am. You can really hurt someone's feelings. You don't even know me! How would you like it if I met you in person, embarassed you, put you down, made you look like an idiot in front of everyone in public? You wouldn't like it in person, then don't do it on the website! In addition, I'm not going to buy the "it's just honesty" defense. No!!!!!! It's just MEAN! You might as well just post to people " Why are you such an idiot and a loser?" because you can sugar coat it all you want, but that is the tone and underlying meaning. Oh, and stop tag teaming people. What is this high school? You can this little click of senior "the veterans" and the freshmen "the newbies". You don't OWN this website, so stop bullying people! I am actually a really sweet, kind and understanding person and I could make some REALLY mean and hurtful comments back, but I don't. So, grow up and stop it already!!!!! (Please note that this is directed to some people and not everyone) |
