 OMG - I am sooooo sick of counting points and calories. I joined Weight Watchers & could not count points... Then I joined an online program that helped me count calories. Claiming if I reduce my calories just 500 per day I would lose weight. I lost 2 1/2 lbs in week counting calories - which I am thrilled about, but I just cant count another point or calorie anymore. My OCD is in overdrive from all this counting (haha)...
Im discouraged & am going to try South Beach. I know a couple of people who lost quit a bit of weight & are in maintenance. I have approx. 75 lbs to lose. Im really concerned i wont be able to say good-bye to bread. I love BREAD/carbs! I love sandwiches & Panera is my fav resteraunt. Im not too concerned with Pasta - just bread....
Just wanted to say hello & ask for a boost! Im sick of dieting - but desperatly want to lose this weight!

Welcome!!
What you need to realize is that Phase 1 was designed to address that issue - getting rid of the cravings. So after (as well as during) Phase 1, you will find those feelings easier to deal with. Also you do not have to give up bread forever. 100% whole grain bread is okay in Phase 2... probably not the best thing to add back early on in Phase 2 (especially since you love it so much) but it's not like you can never have it again. This is a way of eating for life! It gets easier!
You can do this! |

FWIW, you do still have to count and watch and limit some things on SB too. But less than WW or calorie counting for sure. Then again, you'll do more label and ingredient reading on SB, but those are really good things to learn whether you stick with it long term or not. The black bean soup and some of the salads at Panera are reasonably SB friendly, but sadly none of their breads are 100% whole wheat or whole grain, even the one they call "whole grain".
Good luck! It's a good sound healthy eating program that allows for slow weight loss over time if you stay relatively consistent with it. |

You kinda have to keep an eye on cheese and nut calories, as they are very dense. It doesn't take a lot of cheese, about an ounce, which is a small cube IMHO, to make approx 100 cals. Same with nuts. Nuts are even denser! But this IS a great WOE!
Here's a little inspiration for ya: When I started SBD a little over a year and a half ago, I weighed 227 lbs. Female, 38, 5' 4". In phase 1, I lost 13 lbs! Then, over the next 4 months, approx 40 more lbs! I eventually lost a total of 69 lbs in about six months! I'm not much for exercising, but I do mow our grass with push mower and we have a nice solid acre to mow. So it was EASY! Then, I maintained for several months, until recently, when I ended up housesitting for my mom for a solid week; an emergency situation--- no time to buy food, I can't drive, and so I ended up eating what she had.... I told myself I earned a week of this 'vacation' time. I ate a lot of stuff I should not have, but I didn't eat a ton of it. Mostly, it was all junky carb foods. Sandwhiches.... potato chips....potatoes..... some frozen dinners...... I didn't have any milk! And hardly no cheese.... that week of my 'vacation' I tried to tell myself I deserved, turned out to be a disaster. I felt like crap after a couple of days of eating that junk. I don't think I ate a single legume that week either. Some canned veggies, but not much. So I felt awful, sluggish. Even mentally sluggish! After I ate some ice cream, and cinnamon rolls, and then a sandwhich and chips over the day, I discovered that mentally I couldn't think as fast as I could when I was doing the SBD WOE. It really made a difference!
Let me tell you---I was LOOKING FORWARD to getting home, going grocery shopping, spending a huge crazy amount of money on groceries (thanx to inflation!) and getting back into my WOE! Now, Day 5, and I feel great. I've lost almost 5.5 lbs so far. I know a lot of that is water. But I know how this WOE works, and I'm really looking forward to eating healthier again and feeling great! I know that by now, day 5, I have got all the sugars out of me. I can feel it. No cravings. No hunger. Mentally, I am clearer. It feels good, physically and mentally. |

SugarPlum Fairy: Your weight loss is very inspiring! I am also 5' 4" & have about 75 lbs to lose. Wow 40 lbs in 4 months is GREAT - Congrats! I hope to have similiar results.
I am ready for a lifestyle change! I mean my #1 goal is to lose all this weight forever, but for me its equally important to gain energy so I can play with my kids & get off my tush! I dont exercise (not to say I wont) but I never had - Even when I was thin years ago.
Another question: In Phase 1 --- did you only drink WATER? I found a Sugar Free lemonade, its not diet. It has 5 calories per 8 ounces.. The brand is Tropicana Sugar Free Lemonade.
I like water, but just curious if sugar free drinks are off limits in Phase 1, 2. I dont want to sabotage myself if decide to drink it
Thanks again for all the encouragment. |

there is a list of the allowed beverages in the P1 foods list linked into the P1 FAQ page at the top of the P1 forum or a link to the P1 FAQ also exists in the FAQ sticky thread in this main forum area. |

I think WW is too much work. I have never personally done it, but it seems everyone I know that has doesn't have time for anything else.
I will be looking for the lemonade. I usually drink a lot of soda or fruit juice, so the drinks will be a huge struggle for me.
I just try to think that two weeks isn't too long!
Good Luck:) |

Try the Diet Sunkist orange---that stuff is great! And Crystal Light, or any off brand, or store brand, in the pink lemonade, is really good too! I prefer the PINK for some reason. It's sweeter I guess.
If you like iced coffees, like I do, you can get some sf hazelnut syrup, or whatever flavor you like, and make some killer lattes. |
