My husband and I decided to do this together. Today is day 2, I know that my cupboards were a disgrace before we started this but I've gotta tell ya, I had to make my 3 trip to the grocery store in 3 days AFTER I read through the recipies and chose some to get us through week 1. THe grocery tally is very close to $300 as of today. And, as I work from 11:30 am to 7:30 each day, I'm struggling to make our meals ahead, and even with working so hard to do it correctly, I still starve at work every day, to the point that i get light headed, with headaches(a nasty migrane yeaterday).
My question is, do we have to stick to the recipies in the book, or can I prepare our meals carefully from the "food to enjoy" list? Also, are we allowed more than one snack (off the allowed snacks list) in between meals?
I'd appreciate anyone's imput... but for now I must run as it is 9:45pm and I still haven't put any action into our menu for tomorrow... Help!! |

you do not have to follow the meal plans in the book
you can make your own meals from the foods to enjoy list
and yes if you are truly hungry you can have more than one snack in phase 1 esp.
are you getting your beans and dairy every day? |

they give you good carbs which are the stuff to help combat the SBD flu which is the run down headachy feeling you get in phase 1.
1/3-1/2 cup twice a day should be enough.... |

There are tons of great recipes (most of them very easy and quick)... also tips for snacks, etc..
Recipelover has done a fantastic job of categorizing everything.....
.......it seems like the first couple weeks (shopping wise) are the hardest... then it gets much easier!
Also.... you might find the Meal Plan Guidelines helpful

i think once you've done this a little longer, you will get used to what you should buy so ou won't have to make so many trips to the store. many trips to the grocery adds up VERY quickly!
This is day 2 for me also and yesterday I was starving becuase I didn't bring enough snacks, so today I brought twice as many. For midmorning snack I have 15 dry roasted almonds AND a slice of 1% sharp cheddar. for lunch I had a very big salad with mushrooms and some cherry tomatoes (I notice the slower I eat, the fuller I get) then for my mid afternoon snack I had a 1% string cheese AND a cup of edamame (soy beans)
If you find you are hungry a lot, I would add some protein or maybe even a glass of milk. if you have a fridge at work, bring a half gallon of fat-free, put your name on it, and have a glass once a day when you are starting to feel hungry!
Hang in there! :) |

I never used any of the menus or recipes from the book except the quiche cups.
Definitely add beans and eat more if you are really hungry. |

| I was just looking throught the foods to avoid list in phase 1 (pg127)and it says avoid all milk in phase 1, including yogurt, yet the website quick shopping list had yogurt on it so we've been using both( 1% milk-no more than 2 servings a day and counting the yogurt as 1 of the milk servings if we have it) I know I read that from the book at one point because that is my husbands additction and he was so glad he didnt have to cut out milk.... how confusing, Im afraid to put anything in my mouth at this point!! |

crazy..... that information is outdated. (As are the links on this forum to the right of your screen..)
Skim and 1% milk are allowed in phase 1 as well as Fat-free plain yogurt.
Up two 2 cups daily in phase 1...
Here is an updated list of all phase 1 foods

I can relate to that $300 grocery bill! Prices are skyrocketing!
And it's a damn shame that it actually costs MORE to buy fresh fruits, veggies, and meats, nuts and dairy, than it does to buy junk food! Now THAT is a shame! A gallon of milk for us here in north FL is nearly $5! And I'm on a disability income. I only get $830 a month, and it's hard to live on that! Esp. with the prices of food now. They said RICE was going up? WTF? RICE?! C'mon, you guys!!! WHAT is going on in this world? Is this all because of oil prices? |
