Wow, this thread has really sparked off a discussion! I haven't read through all the links but I know the Warrior Diet wouldn't suit me, I hate going for too long without food and get full very quickly so doubt I'd actually be able to eat much in the 4 hour period. Plus I always eat a good breakfast and feel pretty weak and ill if I skip it.
As other people have mentioned several times on this forum, and as is shown by our ever increasing obesity problem (it's happening over here in the UK too), diets don't work. And even the South Beach Diet is a little extreme in Phase 1, which is why we only do it for 2 weeks. Personally I'm very happy following the SB Lifestyle - I feel really healthy and am losing weight at a rate that suits me, and I even fit in social occasions and eating out. I agree that exercise is really important, so I've started walking for 30 minutes most days and do yoga once a week. I'm also following the Beck Diet Solution which is brilliant, and is helping me with all the emotional reasons I eat. I'm confident that with these three factors, I will lose weight and it will stay off. |

Ooooooooooo... How many times a day can I do THAT one?
As much as you like but only in one session. Ha!
That can only last 4 hours, don't forget. |

How do you know my cheeks are sweet?
Adventure wrote: You aware aware that bodybuilding is in actuality horrible for your body right? Most professional bodybuilders have lots of medical issues later on in life.
Afterall you know so much about the topic right?
Extreme body building, sure...
Just like doing anything extreme with a lack of moderation...
Like... eating 2,000+ cals. in a 4 hour period, as an example.
Again, anyone looking to lose body fat and gain lean muscle should eat small meals throughout the day:
Quote: Another way to boost your metabolism is to eat small frequent meals throughout the day. Eat every 2-3 hours tells your body that you are giving it energy and it does not need to store calories as fat. Skipping meals, however, will not result in weight loss because your body will store the fat. Eating frequently will make you feel full and keep hunger at bay.

Quote: Myth #9: Skipping meals is a good way to lose weight.
Fact: Studies show that people who skip breakfast and eat fewer times during the day tend to be heavier than people who eat a healthy breakfast and eat four or five times a day. This may be because people who skip meals tend to feel hungrier later on, and eat more than they normally would. It may also be that eating many small meals throughout the day helps people control their appetites.
Tip: Eat small meals throughout the day that include a variety of healthy, low-fat, low-calorie foods.
From: http://arthritis.about.com/od/weight/a/weightlossmyths_2.htm
Quote: Q: Eating five to six small meals a day seems like a lot. Won’t I gain weight?
A: This is a popular misconception—that to lose fat and get lean, you have to eat less frequently and adhere to the traditional "three square meal" philosophy. Research has shown that nothing could be further from the truth.
There is a variety of metabolic explanations for why this pattern of eating is so effective for fat loss. First, small frequent meals (SFMs) tend to stabilize both blood sugar and insulin levels throughout the day. When blood sugar levels spike, fat storage is strongly promoted because blood sugar must be kept under very tight control by the body. And if glycogen reserves are full, blood sugar must be stored as fat. These spikes will also cause an overproduction of insulin, usually leading to a rebound hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) effect a few hours after your meal. This can instigate hunger and cravings, cause your energy levels to crash and may slow your metabolism.
In contrast, keeping your blood sugar levels moderate and consistent smoothes out energy levels, keeps insulin levels more constant and helps keep your metabolism humming. When you eat six nutritious, smaller meals a day, the food is more efficiently absorbed and processed by your body than the "three squares" most Americans eat each day. You’ll be creating a metabolic environment that supports healthy fat loss and muscle gains.

To quote Oldpjams "That is just someones opinion."
None of those were scientific studies or contained snippets/links to any scientific studies.
Also in the second one I found this little tid-bit: Myth #10: Eating after 8 p.m. causes weight gain.
Fact: It does not matter what time of day you eat. It is what and how much you eat and how much physical activity you do during the whole day that determines whether you gain, lose, or maintain your weight. No matter when you eat, your body will store extra calories as fat.
So your opinion is that my cheeks are sweet? Just tryin' to understand.
I'm not looking for a scientific studies. I'd rather take someone's word who has the experience and proof to back it up. To quote my favorite comedic actor of all times: "If you want a good T-Bone you can stick your head up a bulls ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butchers word for it?" - Tommy Boy
Way to take Myth 10 outta context. You get a gold star.
I never said if you eat after 8pm, you'll gain weight. But that doesn't mean I need to shove all my calories in for the day during the 10 o'clock news. It's been proven *gasp* that people who eat small meals throughout the day and geer their food around their workouts, get optimal results. Ask any good PT, athlet or experienced body builder. When you're looking for proof and all their scientific mumbo-jumbo - look at their body. That's all the proof I need. |

Ok, so evidence that south beach diet works. Well there are several of us that have lost a significant amount of weight. I have a long way to go and I would still consider myself a newbie (started oct 2007) to date I have lost 67 lbs, my husband has lost 45.
What evidence states that eating many small meals and the right foods helps our metabolism? If you want you can study me on a daily basis. On your warrior diet I would run around being a giant b-it-ch 90% of the day with the shakes and other issues from blood sugar issues. I have PCOS which comes with mood issues. Since I have started sbd my moods have been much more even without drugs like antidepressants which a lot of pcos patients take. SBD is good for your heart, I dont see how starving yourself all day then pigging out like an animal can be healthy in any way at all.
You know what happens to me when I eat the way you described? Its called dumping syndrome. If you have never experienced it believe me you dont ever want to. You generally can not speak, barely move, turn white all kinds of fun problems.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumping_syndrome
I have not had any stomach surgeries yet amazingly I had these issues when I ate the way you described. Have I had one attack since starting SBD? NO. I have to be fairly certain that those attacks are your bodies way of telling you HEY STUPID STOP THAT ITS NOT GOOD FOR YOU.
I realize this is an other diets forum but why would you post about something that is so obviously unhealthy on a website that is for a healthy diet. |
