Well put. It doesn't help that there is so much contradictory advice about nutrition and weight loss. I think many people feel overwhelmed and use that as an excuse to overindulge. I rarely needed an excuse to overindulge  I'm just in a bit of denial of the absolute need to control my chocolate intake. I keep thinking that there will be some way for me to eat a reaonable amount of what is bad for me.

There's a saying in a 12 step program I used to attend: "One is too many and a thousand is never enough". I'm lucky that I don't crave sugar usually. I've found that the South Beach Diet peanut butter bars do great at giving me something sweet and fill me up at the same time (and no, I'm not trying to push their products. It was the first thing I saw that I thought would be ok and wound up loving them) For me, it's mostly been a matter of changing cooking habits and the most basic of ingredients. Coming from Texas, alot was deep fried and covered in gravy. But my daughter and I are having a blast looking for and making up new recipes. She's just old enough, at 12, to understand that she has to take care of herself. Too bad most of my generation grew up with parents telling us to "clear your plate" and handing out candy when you're good.
