I have been trying to lose 20 lbs now for the past year. My self-esteem has been at a low and I've been letting myself go. Sometimes i dont even feel like brushing my hair for work. At points over the last eight months, I would lose 6-7 lbs doing extreme measures such as liquid diets etc. The weight would come off and then go right back on, i would be left feeling even worse. Since those extreme tactics are obviously not working, I am excited about the South Beach Diet. It's worth a shot - plus you can actually eat doing this. I also love egg whites. Here it goes... I will probably be very detailed about what i'm eating in the beginning in Phase I... and then i'd like healthy eating to be a routine rather that a conscious effort.

Day I - 4/13/08

Breakfast:
- Egg whites (4)
- 5.3 oz organic fat free greek yogurt
- Part skim cheese stick

Lunch:
- Seaweed salad (seaweed, light oil, vinegar, a few sesame seeds)
- part skim cheese stick (2)
- Egg whites (2)

Dinner:
- Salmon (with 2 thbs of soy sauce)

Exercise
1.5 mi walk/jog at highschool track.

Hey! Good luck on your weight loss. Personally, I think liquid diets and / or diet pills will never work. Once you stop them you bounce right back up in pounds. Its healthier to eat healthy and lose at the same time!
there's lots of support on this site, so good luck 8)

pedsrn - Thanks for the support. So far, i am finding this diet very easy to follow because you can actually eat :)

So far I am on Phase I, Day 4 - I've been keeping a food journal in a spreadsheet so will probably not post to this every day.

I've been eating these small (only 2 so far) seaweed salads which apparently have corn syrup as one of the ingredients (per an article i've just read). Time to cut that food out. Nutric. information on my swd salad container does not seem to list corn syrup (but who knows what goes on behind the scenes). I better go back to the basics just to make sure.

On a brighter note, I'm not sure how this happened but I lost 2.5 lbs (since last wednesday). yey yey yey... when the number drops you feel even more motivated to succeed!

If no one posts again after you, there is an "X" along the right hand side of the title bar of each of your posts, along with an Edit and Quote button. But if someone (or you) post after it, then the "X" goes away. As a mod I can delete it for you though! ;)

welcome and good luck! try to focus on healthy eating and maybe not so much on "dieting". Dieting rarely, if ever, actually works.

One of my favorite breakfasts prior to SB was cinn. toast crunch cereal... Portion-size containers of this cereal are free and stocked in the kitchen at work ~50 ft from my desk. Loaded with sugar (probably the bad kind). Anyway, today before lunch i was tempted to grab one.... I was hungry then. Once i ate my prepared food and satisfied the hunger - my cravings were completely gone. I am going to keep healthy snacks at desk to prevent future temptations.... Go Phase I. So far so good, Day 5!

Unfortunately, i may want to reconsider bringing salmon to lunch at work... the kitchen smells and people aren't to thrilled :(

Goodluck everyone!

I spoke with my mother over the weekend and it looks like we are doing SB together. I am really excited because we can motivate eachtother... I live away from home and haven't seen her in a couple months. She mentioned gaining 40lbs since November - this has me a little worried, what is going on in her life? I hope she sticks with it this week. I'll compare notes with her this weekend and hopefully this SB lifestyle will be good for both of us.

I made it through Phase I, Now on Day III of Phase II.... 130 or bust :) Some positive things I've noticed: Confidence improving in workplace, Skin clearing up, enjoying healthy cooking. Desire to work out. Warmer weather makes me happy :)

I have now been South Beaching it for a little over a month now and I'm down to 138 lbs (a 10 lb loss!). I think Phase I really helped me build the confidence to stick with the lifestyle change. In the first few weeks when I noticed results, i wanted to stick with it. 2 of my friends are now reading the South Beach book and one of them dropped 3lbs in week I, phase I of the plan.

I think the best tip for success, and what really works for me, is building a routine that works with your schedule. I had a routine/rut over a month ago of going into work, eating 2 snack peanut butter bars and a container of cinnamon toast crunch... then by lunch i'd be eating some sort of sandwich with chips. Snacktime would be 6 or 7 miniature chocolates and dinners would oftentimes involve going out to eat with friends and drinks to follow. My weight racheted up to 157 last summer. Now i make eggs for breakfast with cheddar, mushrooms, and light olive oil spray. pack lots of SB friendly snacks for the day (cheese sticks, sugar free fudgcicles, 20 or so nuts - all tastey and enjoyable to me). I generally try to have lean meat/fish/veggies for lunch/dinner. It just makes sense.

Last sunday i had McDonalds as a treat (2 apple pies and an angus mushroom burger)... [As a side note, that movie Super-size me made me mad. It's not McDonalds who makes people fat, its people who make themselves fat. I am not going to kill my organs from the occasional McD's meal when i'm working out 4 times a week and eating relatively healthily. KFC is probably a heck of a lot worse (but tasty) - someone should do an expose on them!] Anyway, with "cheats," i pick my battles and eat healthy/SB friendly most of the time.

ok....sry for the rant and back to the grind!
