Hi everyone! :) I was just curious about something...I know that on SB we do not count calories be I was looking at yogurt at the grocery store and noticed that the nonfat plain yogurt had close to twice the amount of calories than the flavored ones did. Why is that?

Were you looking at the fat-free, plain yogurt?
It usually has about the same amount of calories per serving as the fat-free flavored ones (which can vary by brand.)

Also, the nonfat plain yogurt usually lists the calories per 1 cup serving, whereas the flavored small containers are often much less. Were you comparing cup for cup? 8)

I noticed that as well, plus it was LOADED with sugar.

The sugar in the non-fat/ plain yogurt... is from the milk .. lactose..
(there should be no added sugar in non-fat plain yogurt)...

Also... see nygirls post above concerning the serving sizes....

That is strange...
the 6oz nonfat plain Greek Gods greek yogurt I buy has 60 calories....the 6oz Dannon light & fit that I think you can't have until phase 2 has between 40 and 60 depending on the flavor and the 5.3 oz Fage nonfat greek yogurt has 80...these are really low in calories
...not sure what you are looking at...maybe you can find one of these??

Yeah, but 33g of sugar? In one serving? It seemed so high in the nonfat/fat free plain yogurt I found. :(

Plain non/fat has around 8 - 13 gms sugar per 6 ounce serving.

What were the ingredients....

(You weren't at Baskin Robbins by any chance?? :D )

I am wondering if you may have been looking at a Vanilla flavored yogurt and not "Plain" yogurt??

(and even then, 33 gms. sugar per serving is high for a non-fat yogurt).

Sugar grams on mine per serving are:
7 Greek Gods
2 Dannon Light & Fit
6 Fage

...no where near 33...

No, I wasnt at Baskin Robbins. This was a generic store brand plain fat free yogurt at walmart. All it had was milk. I'll have to write down all of the nutritional information, but I've stayed away from it and stuck with dannon, which is 9-12g of sugar.

Thanks for the replies everyone...I went and looked again at them today and appearantly the first time I looked, I was looking at LOWFAT plain yogurt instead of fatfree plain. The lowfat had 150 cals per 1 cup serving, compared to the flavored ones which had 80 cals per 1 cup serving. Now, the fat free plain yogurt I looked at today had 110 cals per 1 cup serving. So its 30 calories more than the flavored ones which I still find a bit odd, but I'm fine with it because thats not that much of a difference. Thanks for helping me! :)
