i have a question..
i got real hardcore with south beach again (been on sb since july 07-have lost total of 24lbs), the only thing i incorporated from phase 2 was oatmeal. the rest of the meals i followed phase 1. the weight was coming off like normal. probably a pound every other day. 5 total since i went back to phase 1. then i started incorporating running this past week and my weight has been the same for the past 4-5 days now????
exercise wasnt too new, i do yoga for almost 2 hours every sunday and i have resistance bands. i wanted to add cardio to help the weight fall off faster, but it has just made it the same.
any suggestions?

Losing weight is not a linear thing. You don{t constant lose weight.
It's more an up and down thing.
Even though you just add oatmeal to your menu, there might be other stuff influencing your not losing weight, such as your time of the month, constipation, your body been getting used to your initial lost, maybe you have been taking some meds, lack of water, etc etc.

I don't think adding running to your exercises is the culpit, actually you should be exercise at least 30 minutes daily.

I suggest you keep doing what you're doing and also stop weighting youself daily, that's one of the reasons Dr. A. suggests to check your weight just once a week to see your progress and make changes accordantly.

Keep up the good work,

Keep in mind you need 30 minutes of cardio most days to maintain weight... at least 60 minutes most days to lose.
Running two miles probably takes you less than 30 minutes and burns only around 200 calories.... (you have to burn 3500 calories to burn off one pound..) and since you've just started this week.... you will have to give it time.

It is also very common to stall or gain as you transition to phase 2.......
you are replenishing glycogen stores along with adding calories....

Also... you may be close to your ideal weight.

haha I wish the problem was that i am close to my goal weight!

i started at 181 (i'm 5'0) and am currently at 157 (which is really weird because i wear a 8/10). i want to be about 135

i think you're right about needing to run longer. but after i get done with those 2 miles i am worn out. but i can walk for the rest of the 30 minutes.
i will try that today. i need to wear a watch. that would help.

Be careful and take your time with the exercise. You can hurt yourself if you go from no exercise to too much too fast.

If you cant do more than 2 miles, try doing another activity for a bit. Yes walking is good, I love to play catch (youd be suprised how many muscles that uses, if you dont throw like a girl that is). I have also recently started doing kettlebell exercises and do enjoy it. Also with the kettlebell I can REALLY feel the muscles that get used.

Basically what im saying is to ramp up exercise slowly. When I first started I hurt myself and was put out of commission for 2 weeks, I was scolded by my doctor for doing too much too fast. So maybe walk for 30 mins before or after your run, then next week go for a long run and less walking and so on.

OT, but thats totally not weird. Back when I was 150, I wore a 7-10, and had been that way for a long time. :) You're normal!

I noticed a few terms here that need to be highlighted. If I am off base, please give me constructive criticism. I am not a Dr and this is just my own personal observations:

GOAL weight and IDEAL weight.

Goal weight is something that we set for ourselves..... sometimes realisitic sometimes not.

Ideal weight could be what our body is comforatable with-a healthy weight for the individual based on our body type/height/health history.

Example:
I would LOVE to be 125 lbs again but I haven't seen that weight in a while. Two kids/ body type and age make that number nearly impossible for me. When I was at 125, I was not healthy (physically or mentally) , It was a bad time in my life and I wasn't eating. I was too skinny to and it wasn't good. I was tired all of the time and just not physically fit. I could fit into my size 4's but at what cost??? My Dr. said that 125 is good for me but I disagree.

I feel much better when I am between 130-135. I consider this my Ideal weight. My body is comfortable with those numbers and mentally I am trying to be comfortable with those numbers as well!

Try not to get too "married" to the numbers on the scale. The question is "HOW DO YOU FEEL?"

I completely agree! According to those height/weight charts, my goal weight should be around 105 (I'm short!), but if I can get down to 114 I will be extremely happy! I've never managed to get lower than that (in fact, the last time I was 105lb was when I was a kid!) and don't really care about doing so. I know I look and feel good at 114 and that will suit me fine (at which weight I will be a UK size 8/US size 4 - any smaller and I won't be able to find clothes to fit me!)

LOL sorry, it just cracks me up when I see people struggling to get to like 110 or 120. We are probably both the same height and I would be in true glory to be 155.

I was 185 when I graduated high school, I played several sports. Its just the way it was. I think it will be no small miracle if I make it to 155. My mother works out 2 hours a day during the week 3 hours on weekends and eats right, we are the same height. The lowest she ever got to was 125 and she said even that was strange. Since she has lost all her weight about 10 years ago the lowest she ever got down to again was 135-140.

I just think people should consider themselves lucky to be in that struggle rather than one I am in. YAY my goal is 155 where I will probably still be considered obese at 5'1
