A bit discouraged!

I am on my fifth day on the SB plan and I've only lost two pounds! I know that weight loss varies, but every single person that I know who has done this has had much better results. Are my results really typical? I know that I have been following the plan correctly; there's no question about that. I think if I had lost more I might feel invigorated, but instead I'm disappointed. I won't quit, of course. We'll see what happens over the next week. I may need to stay on phase 1 a bit longer, perhaps?

...well, I just read the sticky about this not being a divine intervention diet and that I should not stay on phase 1. Good to know.

Texas Artist posted this link on another SB site. Maybe it will help your mindset.

Quote: Only a pound of fat....

Do you recognize me?

If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat you'll ever meet. Want to know why? Because no one ever wants to lose me. I'm only a pound of fat. Just a pound.

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen, but never only one.

So I just stick around & happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself ever so slyly so that you never seem to notice. That is, until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty, or more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being only one pound of fat, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in next week, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost a pound….". (As if that were such a terrible thing!) For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing either.

I guess, what I really want to say is, I love being around you – around your arms, your thighs, your chin, and every other part of you.

After all, I'm only a pound of fat.

It's not that your results are "bad" in some way, it's just that it isn't meeting your own expectations. If you had expected to not lose anything but just eat healthier for instance, you'd be two pounds ahead of where your expectations were set! You will lose what you will lose when you will lose it according to your body and program implementation. It will rarely be what you might hope for, when you hoped for it, but if you stay with it and give it time, you'll probably achieve all you hoped for originally. You are basically creating your own disappointment and feelings of being discouraged. You can also create the opposite by thinking differently. The weight loss will be whatever it is at any point in time. It's just what we do with it mentally and emotionally that affects how we feel about it.
