many times an appetizer is large enough for a meal

often i'll ask if i can have a salad and add grilled chicken to it..... never had a place say no... oh well yes once TGIFriday does not permit substitutions. I Just ordered a side salad in addition to my fish.

gotta learn to think outside the box.

Oh that's a great idea! Yes, it should of occurred to me that a restaurant will make a grilled chicken salad for me if I just ask.
Thanks again for your help!

Today I weighed in at 177.75 pounds. I have lost 26.25 pounds since Thanksgiving, with 10.75 more pounds to reach my goal.
I have been recording my weekly weigh in for the past 8 weeks. I fit the data to a linear equation and found that I am losing weight consistently at 0.67 pounds per week with an R squared on the linear fit of 0.8. I like analyzing the weight with this method because it follows my weight trend more gradually.
0.67 pounds per week is slow, but I have learned from everybody that slow and sure is the way to success on this diet.
I am very motivated by my weight loss and this analysis, and I will work extra hard in the weeks ahead to stick to my diet and exercise program.
So far I have been very good about sticking to the diet and exercise program. I am also lifting much more weight thatn when I started. For example, last Thanksgiving I was bench pressing 120 lbs, and I am now at 180 lbs. Also, my belt buckle has moved over 4 notches since Thanksgiving.
The only major problems I have are business lunches, business dinners, and travel meals, but I am working hard to find creative ways to stick to the diet plan during these events.
Thanks again for everyone's help. I will keep you updated. :)[/img]

Last Friday I weighed in at 176.5 pounds. I have lost 27.5 pounds since Thanksgiving, which was 6 months ago. I still have 9.5 pounds more to lose to reach my goal of 167. In the past 7 weeks, I lost 6 pounds, which is a weight-loss rate of almost 1 pound per week.
I think the weight-loss plateau I experienced during the past 7 weeks has been artificial. I think I have been consistenly losing almost a pound of fat per week, but the scale was just reading high because of its inherent variability.
I am more convinced than ever that this diet will work for me if I just stick to it. I have to pay less attention to the scale, and more attention to my healthy food choices.
I plan to reach my goal of 167 pounds by Labor Day!
Thanks for everyone's help!

Here is my weight loss chart for the last 7 weeks:

24-Mar 182.5
30-Mar 183.5
2-Apr 183
3-Apr 182.25
7-Apr 182
9-Apr 182.25
11-Apr 181.75
14-Apr 180.25
22-Apr 180
28-Apr 178.75
6-May 180.25
7-May 180
13-May 177.75
16-May 176.5

Although it looks like I plateaud, I really didn't. The scale was just variable. I think this is a great lesson for me to pay less attention to the scale, and more to what I eat and how much I exercise.
(A graph of my weight loss is more illustrative, but I can't figure out how to post it.)
Thanks again to everybody!

Today I weighed in at 175. So far, I have lost 29 pounds on this diet, and my goal of 167 is only 8 pounds away!
I have lost 5 pounds in the past 16 days. I am sure that this is artificial, and that I am losing only a little less than a pound a week. The scale is just so variable and unreliable.
Yesterday, for the first day in years, I didn't have any artificial sweeteners! I couldn't have done this when I started the diet, but now I am confident that I can work a little bit every week to make my diet and exercise program more and more healthy. I am really glad that the South Beach Diet got me going in the right direction!
Thanks again to everyone for all of their help and support!

Here is a graph of my weight lost over the past 7 weeks or so.
If you follow the scale readings (dots), it looks like there is a plateau and then a sudden drop in weight. But if you follow the line it looks more like a continual gradual declline in weight. I believe the line is a more accurate depiction of my weight change than the scale readings.

Thanks so much to ladybugnessa for explaining to me how to post the graph!

Danny, I have got to say, this thread is really terrific. You have stuck with the program, and worked on asking for feedback and tweaking your intake, and sticking with it through the plateaus. Good job!

I am really glad that my comments have helped another person! Thank you for the feedback!
Here is my latest weight loss graph:

It looks like my weight loss rate is still on target.
I just stick with the diet and exercise program everyday. At times of stress I am tempted to cheat, but I just tell myself that eating food to relieve my stress will only do damage to my body.
Let's just hope I can stay motivated, and this will become a new permanent way of life for me.
Thanks again for everyone's help!

Danny: your plotting reminds me of undergraduate econometrics!
Good luck reaching your goal. I am plodding along, losing slowly, and your story is inspiring.

Thank you for the encourangement muffintop and tilde1d!
The great thing about this diet is that we can all lose the weight we desire!
When we work together and encourage each other it just makes it that much easier for us all to succeed!
I have been stuck at 175 pounds for 3 weeks.
I will be extra careful with my food intake and energy output for a while to make sure I am still losing weight.
I do notice that since I quit sugar substitutes my palette has changed.
I now taste food more fully and I don't have craving for sweets.
I also am more interested in many different types of vegetables and the variety is good nutirition and fun to eat.
Thanks to everyone for keeping me on track!
