Some drivers are asswipes. I am learning to not trust anyone to do what is lawful and predictable on the road.

All drivers are idiots until they prove me wrong.

OK. this was a situation from awhile back. who was the idiot?

coming down a hill in semi-residential area with 30 mph speed limit with double yellow lines, not much of a shoulder to work with, group of bicyclists in front of me riding 2-4 abreast in lane using up most of it. Technically if I am to follow rules of the road, I cannot pass them across the double yellow line. So I sit behind them hoping they will move to single file status and allow me to pass. they don't, so I stay behind them for awhile until I have the opportunity to pass them. I get the finger and yelled names at as I go by. what did I do wrong?

They should only be 2-abreast in order to pass each other. In a paceline that's constantly happening, but one of them should have announced you were back there and they should have stayed single-file until you passed. They should never be 4-abreast on a road open to traffic. In areas where there is considerable traffic, we don't even use a paceline in my club. They have a right to the road, but they have an obligation to not ruin it for everyone else. They're wrong. ATMO.

Although you've got the double yellow line going on. Even on a downhill. Some states require slower traffic to pull over if passing isn't possible. So depending on state law, YMMV. However good riders would have gone single file and waved you by if it is safe.

WB, jealous of being able to go to the tent sale. She has a couple of jersies I would like.

I hold my hand down on the horn and tailgate when that happens. If you're polite or not, you get the finger....so I make it worth it.

Well I have friends who bike, both here and locally. I don't have a problem most of the time and they have as much right to the road as I do if they follow the rules of the road. Just wanted to point out that sometimes it isn't always the person in the car that creates the issues or is "rude". My wife's cousin got crunched pretty badly in a bike/car collision in the Bay area a number of years ago and it wasn't her "fault". When you're the one in a hospital bed being "right" doesn't really matter much though. So I'm probably more cautious than most around bicyclists. This one just caught me off guard.

Yep. Lot of rude cyclists. I think cyclists need to keep in mind that with cars they are dealing with a 3,000lb missile. OTOH, I still think that most good cyclists are better at dealing with cars than drivers are about dealing with cyclists.

I'm usually falling all over myself to be polite and get out of people's way....I don't think I own the road when I'm driving, and I certainly don't when I'm riding a bike. I don't understand folks on a bike who don't do their best to stay out of traffic. That's just good sense.

I've seen a few cyclists mixed in with the traffic at very busy intersections - I'm amazed at how they handle it, but it looks awfully dangerous. I stay on the back roads where there's not much traffic, or on the beach where there are more riders than drivers. This week, I've been riding down by the bayou, but I saw a gator last night. He was a small guy, but I think I'll go back to my old route. He can have that spot.

Yep. but good drivers are also better with dealing with unaware cyclists. ;) Unfortunately most drivers are doing anything else but actively driving anymore. but i digress... ;) back to bike chat! :)

Yeah, last night at the end of the ride we were spinning through town (two of us) and there was an, ehem, person sort of crawling along in their car swerving. "Drunk" my friend said. "Cell phone" I said. I was right. When we got up to their window he started yelling at ehem, the person, that they were going to kill someone. I was embarrassed for both of them. I hate conflict. :P

I changed my brake pads tonight. < bike content.

I have been known to yell at drivers. My favorite epitaph is, "Idiot!" Once or twice I prolly shouldn't have.

Current favorite part of commute: School crossing lady stops all traffic for me.
