tell them you want steamed veggies and protein.

i'm having that tomorrow night when we have friends in for chinese food...

they will steam veggies and chicken or shrimp no sauce... all you have to do is ask.

In the SBD Dining guide (page 16) Dr. A. suggest at Chinese restaurants go for the stir-fried, or steamed. Also look for healthy lower -fat , better -carb choices such as soups or any combinations of fresh vegetables, prepared with small amounts of seafood, poultry or meat.

Stay away from anything that calls for "cripy" or sweet and sour.
As your server to take away the crispy noodles and finally, request that your food be prepared without any MSG , a flavoring agent use in a lot of Chinese food and other prepared foods, and without cornstarch to thickinign the sauce. You can tell them to make it spicy or even to bring some spicy sauce on the side.

Enjoy,

the stir-fry prawn dish with green veggies and ginger (or similar) should be safe, as are the soups that don't contain sweetcorn -- ask them not to add corn-flour (often used as a thickener in the sauce) and you should be ok. same for steamed fish dishes and the like, with a side of vegetables.
i hate it when 'awkward' restaurant choices come up but, thankfully, there's always a way if you think about it well in advance and i think you'll often find that restaurants are ok to accommodate your requests if you ask nicely

I was craving Chinese last night and was apprehensive about ordering.

Thinking that Egg Fu Young was safe for P1 (Afterall its mostly eggs & veggies) I ordered it, with the sauce on the side. The waitress would not allow me to substitute the egg-drop soup and rice for stir fry veggies so I declined both.

However, after eating the Egg Fu Young, I felt horrible. It just didn't settle right after faithfully following the P1 regimen. (I am in P1, day 11) I think it would be a good idea to really evaluate what you are going to order. I think Egg Fu Young was not a wise choice and I am counting this as a cheat.

I know this is an old thread, but I wondered what you ended up ordering.

I would think that the stir fry would fine. I have asked for almond chicken before with no sauce and just add a little soy to it and it's GOOD.
