Hi.
I'm Khenna, I'm 29 and live in northern Minnesota. I'm starting this journal because I've never been able to lose weight without writing everything down. I've also never been able to lose weight without support and right now I'm not getting much. I started South Beach the last week in Feb. and lost 8.5 lbs in the first two weeks. Once I started Phase 2 I started cheating. Last time I checked, I've gained 4 lbs back. I know some weight gain occurs when you start Phase II, but it wasn't good. And then I just got discouraged and went back to my old habits. So here I am. I'm starting right now--not tomorrow, eating the SB way again. I don't think I'll go back to Phase 1, but I'm going to cut down on the Phase 2 foods until I can get it in control. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning and set some goals...just starting this journal is making me feel more motivated! |

So I weighed in this morning to find I've gained all the Phase 1 weight back. Exactly 188 this morning. At least it wasn't more. I didn't start out very Phase 1 for breakfast, mostly 2, but I guess I'm easing back into this and I got better as the day went on. I also had too much wine...3 glasses...a friend stopped by. I need some healthier options to still feel like I'm celebrating! Maybe next time I can do a spritzer with diet soda and less wine or just the soda!
Breakfast: Kashi cereal, berries and milk
Snack: Pistachios
Lunch: Caesar salad, cup of split pea soup
Snack: Hummus and veggies
Dinner: Pork loin, stir fried veggies
I cut up all the vegetables I have into easy to snack on pieces. I'm also going to boil a bunch of eggs tonight for quick breakfasts/snacks. I also spent the afternoon downloading tons of music for my Zune and iPod so I can have some additional motivation to work out. |

I had a good day today...
Late breakfast: 2 boiled eggs & V8
Lunch: Huge greek salad
Snack: Hummus & Veggies
Dinner: Chicken fajita, ww tortilla
Enjoying 1 gl. red wine as I type
I also organized the room where I work out, so I have space to do that again on days I don't want to be outside (like today--snow and ice!). I've used up all of my chopped veggies already...need more. J made Lebanese rice today--I had a taste, but that's it. Willpower! He's catching on more to this diet and most of our food is SB. He still loves his potatos and rice, though. I think I'm going to weigh in on Sundays and Wednesdays. Otherwise I'll be on the scale all day and obsessing about it. |

So I've been too busy to write, but doing OK...
Yesterday I weighed in (since I missed Sun) and was happy to see I was down 2.5 lbs.
Breakfast: eggs and black bean salsa
Lunch: Ceasar salad
Snack: banana w/ PB
Dinner: Gyro (less meat and WW pita) and tabouli
wine
Took the dogs for a nice walk
Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs and V8
Snack: chicken wild rice salad
Lunch: smoked salmon, cheese, strawberries, Triscuits, wine
Snack: string cheese
Dinner: Chicken, pepper, mushroom pasta alfredo and brownie sundae
OK, dinner and dessert was bad but we worked our butts off today, plus I was a guest unexpectedly at someone's house and didn't want to be rude, so I had small portions. Today I was super active and hung out with a friend all day. We ran/walked almost 2 miles this morning and then drove up the North Shore of Lake Superior and hiked to the high falls at the Baptism River, another 1.5 miles roundtrip. The trails are still snowcovered and make walking a bit tough. The river was running and the waterfall was huge. Very cool and I'm sure we burned tons of calories, especially with the cold weather!
In case anyone is wondering who reads this, I'm a teacher and it's Spring Break, that's why I haven't mentioned work! |

| its great to have support at home. Does J live with you? It would be great if he was on the same page as you with regards to SB. Keep up your good work! It'll pay off. |

Thanks for the comment! Yes, J is my husband. He "gets" South Beach and even talked to his doctor about it, but he's not following it like I am...he loves his beer.
So yesterday was a good day...
Breakfast: eggs and black bean salsa
Lunch: Vietnamese chicken with garlic sauce (met J for lunch) NO RICE!
Snack: string cheese
Dinner: split pea soup
Took the dogs for a little walk. Managed to only have one glass of wine and a little smoked fish when a bunch of J's friends came over to watch the Wild game last night.
Today
Breakfast: Cottage cheese and berries, boiled egg and V8
Lunch: Mexican shrimp and mushrooms with garlic sauce, THREE margaritas. I know. I know. I'm just moving on...
Haven't gotten to dinner yet, but J's talking homemade pizza. I may just have a salad. Or maybe a WW pita pizza or both.
So there's a blizzard warning in effect right now, crazy winds, just waiting for the snow. We may be snowed in for a couple of days...so I met some teacher friends for Mexican Happy Hour to pretend we got to go somewhere for Spring Break before the blizzard begins, hence the margaritas. Well, we're ready for the storm, but wish it was warmer! |

my husband was the same way when i was on WW. he saw how and what i was eating but wasnt willing to start it with me- he didnt have much to lose. only about 10 lbs. Well, after a while of him seeing me lose so much and wanting his support, he went on it and lost a good 15 lbs!
But now that Im on SB, he is just supporting me and helping me. He doesnt have to lose weight anymore. He's 6 feet, so it makes sense that he's in the 180's.
Good luck on your journey! |

The blizzard is over and I made it through a whole day at home without going crazy and eating everything in sight. I actually kind of forgot to eat dinner...I did eat, but mostly snacked.
Breakfast: two scrambled eggs with 2 Boca sausages, peppers and onions
Lunch: Cream of broccoli soup (homemade) and a gyro salad
Evening grazing (7-10): 1 gl wine, swiss cheese, hummus and vegis, 1/2 a small chicken enchilada (not SB, but it looked SO GOOD I had a tiny bit)
So here's what www.thedailyplate.com said about my calories today:
33.33% protein
20.74% carbs
45.94% fat
YIKES!! 65 grams of fat. Looking at the % of daily value my fat is right at 100% Carbs at 22% and Protein at 212%. Fiber was 15 grams today. These percentages are based on a 2000 calorie diet, however, not 1400 like I'm shooting for. I know SB is not about counting calories, but I want to check to be sure I'm in balance.
So here's what I've learned the fats are too high (the swiss cheese got me by about 20g) and I could always add more fiber for SB. I seem ot be on the right track with protein and crabs, though. I'll track it again tomorrow. |

| FWIW, Dr. A doesn't believe in these kinds of percentages and it is unlikely you will ever match up with others' ideas of ideal percentage breakdowns while eating according to SB guidelines. And further it doesn't make sense to look at these until you are fully into P2 with 2-3 fruits and 2-3 grains/starchy veggies in your daily menu plan. It's going to naturally be skewed to higher fat and protein percentages because the carb levels are being artificially suppressed. It does help to point out why P1 is not a particularly healthy way of eating for very long though! ;) I really would focus more on following the P1 meal planning template linked into the P1 FAQ sticky thread than trying to adjust these percentages based on other nutritional concepts and systems. If you want to track out of interest, that's fine, but I woudn't be concerned with any of the numbers coming back. JMO. |

Thanks redrox, I was mainly checking out of interest, since this is the system I was using prior to SB. I think I'm relying too much on cheese products to fill me up and not enough on lean meats and vegis...
Today was not a good day, food wise.
Breakfast: spaghetti squash, lean ham and 1 egg (an intersting combo...I adapted from a food show)
Lunch: roast beef and broccoli
Snack? Pina coladas...oops!
Dinner: spaghetti carbonara, salad, bread and red wine Big oops!
I have to defend myself. I haven't had Italian food in months and a new restaurant opened up in town--new restaurants are few and far between around here. There is no excuse for the pina coladas, but they were delicious. I think it will really help to go back to work next week and be away from the fridge and TV all day long. Plus someday the weather will warm up and melt the snow away... |

Minnesota is so weird. Today it was 65! Most of the snow has melted away...
Didn't do so well this weekend, but back on track today. I need to plan ahead better. J bought a ton of veggies and low fat meats and cheeses for me yesterday. Good guy.
Breakfast: Boiled egg and spicy V8
Snack: string cheese
Lunch: Roast beef, 1/2 grapefruit, feta cheese
Snack: yogurt
Dinner: beef stir fry with soba noodles
Tea with a little honey
Walked/ran for 35 minutes! |

| It's been a few days but I feel like I'm doing ok. i guess we'll see what the scale says tomorrow. I haven't been exercising as much, but I've been following SB until this morning. But it was a great experience--I attended a povery immersion exercise where we toured the food shelf, soup kitchen, low income apartments, youth center, homeless shelter, drop in center, etc. As this was an immersion experience, there was no SB, you get what you get. But it was an amazing and moving experience and I think everyone should do it. I am so greatful for the life that I have and that I have the choice to be on SB. |
