I was looking up a recipe online, and came across this.

I personally do not use any alcohol, even for cooking. THere have been times I've found a yummy looking recipe, only to find I couldn't make it becuase it calls for some type of alcohol, and I would feel bad.... now, with substitutions, I can make those recipes!

I know that some of the suggestions aren't beachy, but water, broth, flavored vinegar, tomato juice, lime, or vanilla extract are beachy ones!

There are several substitutions available for recipes that call for cooking with alcohol. Below is a list of standard substitutions. Some of the fruit juices can also be diluted with water if the fruit flavor is too pronounced. From KBYUTV.ORG.

1. Recipe calls for-- Substitute
White Wine--- White grape juice; chicken or vegetable broth; ginger ale
Red Wine--- Grape juice; cranberry juice; chicken, beef, or vegetable broth; flavored vinegar; tomato juice
Brandy--- White grape juice; apple juice; cherry, peach, or apricot syrup
Beer--- Chicken, beef, or mushroom broth; white grape juice; ginger ale
Rum--- Pineapple juice with almond extract or molasses; vanilla extract
Vodka--- Water, apple cider or white grape juice mixed with lime juice
Sherry--- Vanilla extract; orange or pineapple juice
