So, I’m trying this again. I very successfully did South Beach in 2005 for six months. During that time, I went from 165 pounds to 142. Then I went on vacation, moved cross country, lived on people’s couches, and basically stopped trying. It was just too hard in those circumstances.

I kick myself every day for stopping. I was getting really close to my goals. Not to mention, I was looking pretty darn good from all the cardio, yoga, and weight lifting I was doing during that time. Of course, some might say I was a tad “addicted” to exercise, but it just really made me happy.

But here I am now. Three years later, 10 pounds heavier than my previous start weight, and pretty darn miserable. I don’t understand how I let myself go so much. Actually, that’s not true. I finally got a stable job and a stable place to live in May 2006. Of course then, the people I began hanging around strongly influenced the way I ate and drank. My roommates never cooked, but only ordered in (one of my roommates is disgustingly skinny and eats pizza every day). We were drinking beer a lot, I was working a lot, and I NEVER made it to the gym. Socially, things have been good. On a personal level, I’ve been pretty depressed.

So, I’m going to Europe in 8 weeks and I’ve decided that now is the time to take action. I know I can do it. It’s not a question of whether this can be done. It’s a question of whether I can muster the willpower to do what I have to do to make this work. Many times I have considered restarting in the past, only to cheat in the first week because I couldn’t resist getting a drink at the bar or eating a bagel with coworkers on Friday.

Not this time.

So, here I am. 175 pounds. My first mini goal is 10 pounds by May 23rd (the day I leave for Europe). In the end, I would really like to get down to a size 2/4. I’m thinking that’s going to put me around 115–120 pounds. So 50–60 pounds. That’s what I’m aiming to loose as a long-term goal. My other mini goals I am basing on vacation dates:

May 23rd (Europe): -10 pounds = 165
July 4th (Nags Head): -10 pounds = 155
September 1st (Labor Day): -10 pounds = 145
January 1st (New year!): -10 pounds = 135
March 31st (One year later): -10 pounds = 125
May 9th 2009 (Friend’s wedding): -5–10 pounds = 115–120 GOAL

I might lose more, I might lose less. I could lose 10 pounds in the next 2 weeks and then only 5 before July 4th. That’s ok. As long as I keep losing.

All that being said, here is what I ate yesterday and what I plan to eat today:

Monday
B = 2-egg omelet w/cheese, grande sugar-free vanilla skim latte
S = Peanuts
L = Salad w/grilled chicken, tomatoes, carrots (forgot I couldn’t eat these), white cheddar, and LF tex-mex ranch. Diet cherry soda (?)
S = None
D = Stir fry shrimp and broccoli

Tuesday
B = 2-egg omelet w/cheese, coffee w/cream and one splenda
S = forgot to pack.
L = Salad w/grilled chicken, tomatoes, white cheddar, and LF tex-mex ranch.
S = None
D = Salad w/tuna and beef

Almost two down.

Just wanted to wish you good luck on your "work in progress"!
I had a successful few months on SB ages ago and then fell off the wagon!
Hope you have a nice time in Europe - where exactly are you going?
Good luck!!!

Thank you! I will be going to Ireland (driving all over), London, and Paris. I am a huge history nut, so I'm very excited!!

That's amazing - I love Paris, I've been loads of times and it never loses it's magic! Ireland is a very beautiful place too.

A tiny word of warning for when you go to France; the food tends to be really rich, watch the salad dressings (salad ALWAYS has a dressing), the bread is irresistable and be careful when ordering meat cos they like their meat very rare! (I know all this cos I lived in France for 6 months!)

This morning I actually got up at 5:30 a.m. and WENT TO THE GYM! I can't even believe it. I've always been an after work gym person. It was great to know that I didn't have to do anything after work. Also, I had a ridiculous amount of energy all day. It was fabulous!

Today

B - Ham & Cheese omelet, SFV skim latte
S - None
L - Salmon and salad with garlic ranch dressing
S - None
D - Salad with beef and house dressing
S - Eeek, 2 little pieces of peanut brittle (i know, i know)

Regardless of that little blip, I'm still feeling pretty good about everything. I mean, dinner was at a mexican restaurant tonight and I resisted the chips and salsa (HARD). Last night and the night before, I was around lots of bad food and drinking. It's HARD to resist a beer (as well as cheesy bread when it's sitting right in front of you) but I did!! I'm almost at 5 pounds, which is very promising for 4 days. I will absolutely fall on the floor if I make it to 10 pounds at the end of phase I!!

Well the past couple of days have gone by pretty well. With the exception of me accidentally eating something breaded yesterday without realizing. UGH. I'm definitely not having enough water though. I need to be much better about that!

Friday
B - 2 egg omelet w/cheese, coffee
S - None
L - Salad with chicken, tomatoes, white cheddar, red onions, and tex mex ranch
S - None
D - Cajun shrimp

Saturday
B - None
S - SFV Skim latte
L - 3 boneless bbq chx wings (stupid breading - at least they were bite-size) chili w/beans, tomatoes, onions, cheese, sour cream
S - None
D - Omelet w/cheese and salad w/garlic ranch

Today
B - Omelet
L - Salad, steak, zuchinni & sqush (late lunch/early dinner)
S - Latte

No working out this weekend, which sucks. But I plan on going every morning this week hopefully.

So there are a couple blips on the radar unfortunately, but I'm still going strong. Almost at five pounds!!

i hate that when you set your alarm and it gets messed up! There should be a way for the alarm to be intune with our bodies so they know when we need to get up. LOL.

Keep up your hard work. I love it how you slip but continue right onwards!
