I did my first workout with this plan last night. I haven't ran/jogged in about 6 years so it was quite challenging to say the least! I didn't really feel bad or strained all over, just really out of breath. I did make it though, only cheated with 5 extra seconds of walking once, so I'm pretty proud of myself. Not so sure I'll be jogging that 3 miles in 2 months  , but I'll take whatever comes of it. I really, really liked that it only took 20 minutes, as opposed to the whole hour I've been spending walking. That 40 extra minutes is a gift!

I've also made exercise goals! A girlfriend of mine did the Hancock Hustle this year. She ran up 96 flights of stairs in the Hancock building in chicago. I was so impressed I pledged to do that next February. So to get prepared I have made goals leading up to it. I plan to run my first 5k July 25th!
I too haven't run in a long time and am very out of shape, but everyday I hope to run a little farther.
We can do it!
Good job today!

On march 15th I did my first 5 K and it was so great. I did not run the whole race but did a walk run program that I have been working on. This race was a prediciton race. We had to predict how long it would take us to run the race. I was proud to complete it 4 minutes under my prediction time. I am by no means a runner but I'm getting stronger every day.

Fitness magazine web site also has a good 5k training program. Go to fitnessmagazine com and you can find it without having to join any program.

Good Luck on your Journey!

Sigh. Haven't worked out again since Wed. And I won't get to it today either b/c I have plans. There's always next week I guess. I'll just say this was a test week and next one is week #1  Just not enough hours in the day.

Just keep getting back out there. I was pretty bad about sticking to my schedule for well over a year. I recently read through my old journal and couldn't believe how many posts were in there where I said I didn't do a planned run. It happened at least once a week, often twice. But now if I don't do a run, there's usually a good reason, like I'm sick or some emergency came up. No more "I just didn't feel like it" days.

You can do it. :D

oh my goodness!!

i know a few folks doing the couch to 5k and figured i'd check it out. i've always wanted to run a distance race so this is good practice for that. so tonight i hopped on the treadmill to give it a go.

i did it!!!! it wasn't even horrible!!! i did all the running and all the walking, plus a little extra walking at the end because i felt i needed to cool down a little more. i also quit smoking a few months ago, so this is something i couldn't have done before christmas!

hubby came down to check on me and he told me the treadmill was totally on a high incline, too, and i didn't even know it!

as long as i can drag my butt on that treadmill at least 3 times a week, i think i found a way to get that exercise in. i'm LOVING that it is only 20 minutes (which i actually turn into 25 for the extra cool down).

I just finished up week 2 and start week 3 tonight. It definitely will be a challenge. Weeks 1 and 2 seemed so easy!!

Once I get to week 4.5 I am going to register for this:

I have never ran. Well maybe down the hall on a way to a code (but that only happens two or three times a year).

I will get going tonight. Looking at the 3rd week seems confusing, do you do each "set" twice? I hope I am getting that right, guess I should worry about getting started first!

Okay, this really kicked my butt last night, but I am going to stick with it. Although I dont really see myself moving up to next week after only 3 days of this. I was exhausted, barely made it the whole 60 seconds of running, and wanted to cry when my 90 seconds of walking were over.

I did sleep like a baby

I plan to keep walking my 2 miles at lunch everyday, to help stay loose, and checking out some stretches, I dont think I did those right. It did help to take about 600mg of Motrin and get in a hot jacuzzi tub after.

I would not have thought this would be so hard on me since I do workout 3-5 times a week already. I will keep on truckin!

Yes. I kinda messed up on my calculations last night. I am running on a treadmill so I have to convert yards to decimals of miles. I don't think I'm getting the distance I need when I'm just running the seconds, so I decided to switch to distance from week 3 on.

So, this is what I am doing for week 3:

Brisk warm-up walk to .25 mile (this took me just under 5 minutes last night)

Jog to .375 (200 yards)
Walk to .5 (200 yards)
Jog to .75 (400 yards)
Walk to 1.0 (400 yards)

REPEAT, so the distance looks like this...

Jog to 1.125 (200 yards)
Walk to 1.25 (200 yards)
Jog to 1.5 (400 yards)
Walk to 1.75 (400 yards)

When I did weeks 1 and 2, I was doing it by time (20 minutes) and getting a little more than a mile in each time. I think time-wise it is going to take me closer to 30 minutes for the week 3 regimen. I'll repeat it until I feel I can do it strongly enough to move to week 4.

Oh my! I did my first "real" W3 tonight (I flubbed last night and didn't get the distances right and ran way more than I should have). I got the distance correct tonight and it whoooped my ass, but I MADE IT!!!!

Took just about 35 minutes and I went 1.76 miles.

I run on a 1/2 mile track, so its hard for me to track distance. I could hit the lap button on the stopwatch feature on my ipod (that is what I use to time myself) but I am afraid with all the panting and crying I am doing, I will trip myself up.

I can usually walk 2 miles in just under 30 mins, I may try to keep up with laps tonight. I just dont have the guts to get on the treadmill in front of anyone...........yet!

But Dear Lord I am still sore!

Thankfully my treadmill is in my basement! Nobody has to see my flopping around.
