Let me start off by saying I am not a runner! I am one of theose girls you see at the gym who will up the incline to 8 and fast walk forever on the treadmill! I am also a fan of cycling.
Yeseterday I wanted to change it up so I didn't up the incline and walked for the first 5 mintues then I actuall ran for 9 mintues without stopping (never thought I could do anymore than maybe 2 mintues) so switched off like this for 45 minutes and went for 3 miles. 3/45 so that is a 15 minute mile.
What is a good goal to work for?
You can see in my signature line that I am short not sure if that matters at all! |

Hi karensue....
First.... great job! Sounds like you're a little excited about the whole running thing?!

I've seen these people... they are usually hanging on to the treadmill at the same time!! ....... which can burn up to 50% less calories than letting your arms swing freely... (not saying that you do.... just an observation...)

Nope..... short people can run too!! :D
My thought would be for you to check out the "Couch to 5K" program... it is a great entry level running program.

Fitness magazines web site also has a great 5k training program that I have been using. I am not a runner but wanted to start trying to run to help with my weight loss goals. My first goal was to run/walk the gate to gate run which is held every year on Memorial day. It is 4.4 miles.
My husband is also starting to run and convinced me to do a 5K. We did our first 5K on March 15th and I loved it. I walked and ran, made it to the finish line, and I'm still alive to talk about it! I didn't think I could do it but I did and now I want to train even harder to do more.
Good luck with the training! |

I just saw someone doing that the other day. I remember thinking about how the incline was so high and how she was hanging on and wondering what kind of workout she was getting. How funny!

Yep - I have about an inch and a half on you. I'm not fast but I can manage a sub-10-minute mile for at least 4 miles. Much better than when I started, not all that long ago. If you get into running you'll see improvements in your pace.
Good luck! :D |
