Bridesmaid Dress Alterations

I'm hoping someone on these forums can help, since I'm new at all this! Today I ordered my bridesmaids dress for my friends wedding. Based on my measurements, my dress is a size 18.

The issue is that I have been losing weight and would like to continue towards reaching my goal weight. It's not that I'll likely reach that goal by the wedding (early august) but I'd like to lose some more before then.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to alter the dress to make it smaller....do people ever have that done? I didn't want to risk ordering a smaller size, just in case obviously, and was too embarassed to ask about altering the size later on. I'm sure they just roll their eyes at people who say they're "planning to lose weight"!

It's a pretty basic dress, strapless fitted bodice, straight through the skirt area. Very pretty and simple.

If anyone could shed some light on how extreme you can actually go with alterations, I'd really appreciate it! :)

if it's plain they should not have a problem altering it...

just call them tell them your a bride and you saw the dress and you have this one weird bridesmaid... who gains and loses weight... ask them about the alterations of the specific dress...... LOL

Find a dress tailor and ask how much she can alter it. My sister was one of my bridesmaids and she's super tiny (about 100 lbs); they had to do some real work on her dress!

I say lose the weight. Wear the baggy dress if nothing else!!!

Thanks for your advice, ladies! From what I've been able to find out, it should not be difficult to alter. I just didn't want to de-rail my weight loss in order to stay this size for the dress. :P In all honestly, I don't see myself losing any more than 20-25 pounds by then anyway, so it's not like it's going to be massive on me, just hopefully a little looser!

Thanks again!

I'm also standing in a wedding, which will be held in late July of this year and that was also my concern. So not to worry Bananajan, I 'm sure they can make alterations, it may cost a few dollars, but being overweight cost more. When I fitted my two piece gorgeous outfit, the top was a little tight;howveer I refuse a larger size because I knwe i was still losing weight. keep up the good work and by this summer both brides better look out, there going to have some super hot bridesmaids!!!
