Hi everyone! I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks now but this is my first posting. I have been on the SBD for two weeks now and today was my first day in Phase 2.
Well, first, I noticed that most of the people on this forum seem to be older than me (I'm 18.) I'm just curious, but are there any other teenagers out there on this diet?
Secondly, I guess starting Phase 2 has made me a bit nervous. I feel like, despite how much I complain about my weight, I am not ready to make this life change to the SBD. I've discussed it with my mom a lot and I know that I have to change my diet in order to lose weight and that the SBD is a very realistic and reasonable diet.
But is it possible for me to follow a less strict version of the SBD and still lose weight and stay healthy? I understand that I will not be able to go back to my old eating habits, but can I settle for something in between? I guess I just want to know that I can have a white bagel if I want one, or a few Saltines every so often. It might be silly, but I feel like, because I am still young, by restricting myself to a lot of good foods, I'm missing out on a really good part of life. (Haha, I don't know...)
I also wanted to know how severe the consequences are of cheating. For example, if I ate a slice of cake or something one day, would this be the end of the world? (Well, you know what I mean.)
Thanks in advance! :D |

Those extra things you are talking about are the things to enjoy in phase 3 of the SBD way of life.
You have taken the first step by completing phase 1, but you may still have some cravings it sounds like.
I know there are other teens on this site, so hopefully they'll answer too. As an adult looking back at 18, I wish that I had committed to a healthy lifestyle then..........
Good luck in whatever you choose! |

Welcome to the forum!
You're correct. Dr. A. suggests for teenagers to start in P2 beause you still need the fruits and "good" carbs. I'm sure you can manage a less restricted diet, BUT yes, you need to change your eating habits for life, if you want to live a long and healthy life, free of medical issues and problems. BTW, from time to time we had younger people around here, maybe some are lurking like you were and someone will write back to you. Also, this site was down and a lot of members move on to different sites.
After you reach your goal and get to P3 you will have a less restricted way of eating where you can once in a while enjoy some saltines or some other stuff you might want within limits. By then you will know what works for you.
The problem with cheating like eating a piece of cake is that your cravigns will return and then you will feel miserable at least the next day.
BUT hey, everybody has weak moments and cheat, the secret is to learn from those moments and go back on track ASAP.
Cheating on something doesn't give you permission to stop dieting and going back to your "old" bad habits.
Most people after vacation or if they cheat on the weekend, they go back strict to P1 for a day or 2 until the cravings stop and/or lose the extra weight. CHEATING IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD as you know it, but it's sabotaging your good work and effort on the diet.
Good luck and let us know your questions, |
