I came across this pdf. that shows how draining and rinsing regular ground beef will make the fat and calories very low. There is lots of info and comparison charts for different fat contents and even ground turkey comparisons. It may change your stance on ground beef. It even gets very detailed about nutrient ratios and such. Here you go

and please do make comments on your thoughts. I'd like to know how others feel about this.

I found the fact that the calorie content is lower than x-lean to be very interesting. I think I'm going to use this as a guide for cheaper meat. I simply can't afford x-lean all the time but want a low fat and low calorie option. I see that it isn't just black and white when it comes to ground beef. Once prepared it isn't that big of a difference. Interesting. Thanks for your input Nessa.

I recently started rinsing my beef, but I usually buy 90/10. So I might start buying the cheaper stuff (80/10) and just continue to rinse it very well.

Thanks.

Very interesting and amusing flyer!!!

You do get slightly less protein when using rinsed higher fat content beef rather than extra lean-- just something to keep in mind.

I noticed that too Kim. Although at 4.00 a pound it may be worth it to me to research the other possibilities. But, I don't do very much ground beef anyway. I can do alot with ground turkey and chicken and that's cheaper.
