All that advice sounds great..I hear the gels are kind of nasty anyways :) I think that if I make it 13.1 miles, I "might" have to treat myself to a beer. It's been so long.......

I never imagined being able to run like this! I actually really enjoy it!!! I definitely want to try to do other half marathons. Or maybe tackle a sprint triathalon, but I would need to work on my swimming....unless you can doggie paddle in the reservoir

Oh luvs...a full marathon, yeah I don't know  My husband and I did our 9 miler this Saturday. Usually we run in the afternoon/evening for our long run and we thought that since the mini-marathon is in the AM we should probably see how we do in the am. We woke up about an hour and a half before we started running. I thought it was too close to running to eat a regular breakfast, so we both had a Clif bar about 20-30 minutes before running. It was an AWFUL run!! I was able to finish with a steady pace (8:45) but my hubby had to walk a few times. We were both exhausted! My legs felt like they were going to give out at about mile 7, but I pushed on (I don't give up easily). I didn't help that we ran in a combo of rain, sleet, snow, 40 degrees, and 20 mi/hr winds :x
I think I am definitely doing to need some sort of a supplement mid-run. We are doing 10 this weekend and are planning to get up a full two hours before we run and have a normal breakfast and then use a supplement of some sort and see how we do..

I am leaving for San Diego next week for a work conference and will have to do our last long run (10-11 mi) while out in CA, so that should be interesting!

Lesson I learned this week: we should probably have been training in the AM for more than 3 weeks before the race

Hey..... if you can run through rain, sleet, snow, cold weather and wind gusts and still hold your 8:45 pace..... you are doin' fine!!

Hmmm.. I never thought about afternoon/evening training and that affecting an a.m. race..... I guess cause I always run in the a.m.
That could throw things off..... especially food-wise.
You know I bet if you can get in even 3 or 4 a.m. practice runs... you'll be fine (weather permitting! :D ) Mostly you are just going to have to figure out what you need to eat beforehand and if you are going to supplement... what you'll use.
I've mentioned this in the runner's thread, but for marathon training on the long runs... I'd "pop" some M&M's....... another runners trick (if you don't like gu's or bars) frozen orange slices in a baggie (either in your pocket or a fanny pack)... to suck on (or eat) for some quick energy...... (they are usually thawed by the time you need them.)

Have a great long run in California..... The weather will probably be great!

Whew! 10 miler completed this am!! We did things a little different this am. I woke up 2 and a half hours before the run and ate a bowl of oatmeal with a tbls of NPB mixed in. Then about 20 minutes before the run, I ate a mini clif bar (only 100 cals, just enough!). I also carried a water bottle with about 8 oz of G2 in it and sipped it from miles 6-10 (each mile). I did so much better!!! Less fatigue, kept my pace of 8:42/mi and my husband finished right behind me! I was so worried because I had an awful week of short runs---it was in the mid-70's this week and I ran in the afternoon after work. It's also TOM so I have been really fatigued this week! The only problem I encountered was about 30-45 seconds after sipping the gatorade, I would get intestinal cramps for a few seconds, but it went away pretty quick.

Last long run in San Diego next weekend and then the following weekend, it's the Mini!!
