I've had a really difficult couple of days at work and I'm stressed out. I'm also studying for a part time chemistry degree and my boyfriend is studying for a finance exam, so we're not spending much time together, which bothers me.

I just want to curl up in a little ball away from the world, and tonight I want to EAT. Not any junk, I'm happy to eat beachy foods, but I want to snack on eggs, nuts, cheese etc. How can I stop myself? I could do with some serious motivation at the moment.

No, I'm not hungry at all, I'm fed up. I know it's comfort eating and of course it won't help or get rid of my problems. It's a pretty typical response of mine to want to eat when I get stressed out.

It's a bit late to go for a walk (it's 10.45 pm here) but hot sweet tea sounds like it just might help. Thanks for the tip!

It's a pretty typical response for many of us! ;) It won't be the last time you likely feel this way. At least you are thinking of overeating on beachy foods. There are far worse things to choose in the greater scheme of things. But ultimately it likely comes down to practicing and developing new habits to deal with stressful times. So hey, just consider it an opportunity to experiment and try to take a positive away from the whole deal and if that doesn't work, there is always the next time!

Thanks RedRox. I know I need to get over the stressed=eat response, that's what got me overweight in the first place! If I'm ever tired or stressed at work, I almost always buy chocolate on the way home

I did try some meditation when I got home after work this afternoon which helped a bit, and I'll do some tomorrow too. I am a bit hungry now, so I'm going to have a cheese and vegetable omelette and go to bed.

Dealing with the food and healthy lifestyle part of the beach is often a lot easier than the mental/emotional stuff running under the surface. We work on what we can, when we can. Sounds like a good plan and a good night's sleep might help too! be well...

Thursday and Friday nights are the worst for me. Long week, winding down. Overeating is tough to avoid during this time. There have been many of these nights that I have drank hot tea, brushed my teeth and went to bed.
The next day, I feel much better about not binging on the extra food.

PS- even tonight, I would love to have a glass of wine, but after the week I have had, I am afraid that one glass would turn into a bottle.
Good nite from me as well!

I'm feeling MUCH better today, not stressed at all. Funnily enough, I also feel slimmer than I did last night!

Dayna, that's good advice - I've found that when I want to binge, I need to stop for a moment and just think. Ok, the food might comfort me as I'm eating it, but once it's gone I'll feel worse than I did before. It's hard though, it's almost like a temporary madness when I forget everything I know about healthy eating and just focus on instant gratification.
