Hi,
I just wanted to say that when I first started this diet I was one of the people who did not see a dramatic weight loss in the first 2 weeks and I was pretty disappointed. Now I have been on the diet for 2 months and 8 days and have lost 24 lbs. I feel great and don't feel like I am actually dieting. So for all of you who have started off slowly just like I did..... it gets better ! Hang in there and you will be soooo happy you did. I went from a size 13 to an 11, then 9, now 7. I never thought I would be wearing a 7 !!!!! Good luck to all of you :) |

| blondebtrfly - did you stay on Phase 2 longer than 2 weeks? I only lost around 4 lbs in Phase 1, and was tempted to stay on it longer, but moved to Phase 2. I just finished my first week of Phase 2, and didn't lose anything. :( Any advice would be great! |

Hi,
I did not stay on Phase 1 any longer than I was supposed to. And I actually added some carbs before day 14. Probably around day 8 - I just felt like I didn't have much energy. I bought a wonderful whole grain, low carb, high fiber and protein bread at Walmart and added one slice a day. What a difference it made ! I had normal energy again. It was after I started Phase 2 that the weight seemed to just melt off me. Because I didn't lose much in Phase 1 i was worried I would have a hard time losing anything more, but I was so wrong. Phase 2 was amazing. Suddenly everyone was commenting on how great I looked and I hadn't even realized that I had lost a whole pant size within a week. After that it was smooth sailing, and I do indulge in foods that I love - like Taco Bell and buttered popcorn at the movies - and I have still steadily lost weight. I drink a lot of water too and I think that has helped. My portions are smaller than they used to be, I was an emotional overeater, so I have found that I don't have to limit myself constantly. The other night we went out for dinner and I had grilled chicken with steamed veggies, but I also had a small side of garlic mashed potatoes.. This wouldn't work every day of course - but sometimes you have to treat yourself. My husband is in Iraq and I don't like to cook for only myself - so I go to Taco Bell atleast twice a week for dinner. At first I thought this would stall my weight loss but it hasn't at all. It helps that instead of ordering a nacho supreme and 5 tacos now I order a nacho supreme and 1 taco and usually can't finish it.
Anyway, I am rambling................. to sum it all up, Phase 1 was a disappointment because I wanted to lose more quickly like other people. When I went to Phase 2 everything changed and I am sooooo happy with the results. My husband is going to be so surprised when he gets back, I was a size 14 when we first met. I haven't been this thin since I was 16.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL ! |

Well blondebtrfly I am soo glad I read your posting, I too am experiencing slow weight loss, although I have notsteped on a scale since I started the diet I am NOT noticing a difference in my clothes fitting better! Last night I felt very bloated and I had no idea why I felt soo bad. Today marks day 7 of my PH1 and I will stick to it. I am worried though, that maybe I am not eating enough.... Often i don't feel like eating the snacks, and I only eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, do you think that may hamper weight loss?
Yoy hubby is going to one HAPPY boy when he gets back fr overseas, be sure to keep your scheduel free for a few days upon his return (LOL)

Hi, I am not daring to step on a scale until day 14 or 15, but here I am in day 8, and I haven't noticed a huge difference, but maybe a very little looser pants. I think losing weight slower helps you keep it off, though. I have gone from exercising 0 minutes per day to about 10 or 20 per day, too because I not only want to lose weight, I want to look good in a bathing suit and not flabby.
There were some things I still am not sure if I am eating right, and yes I read the book. Book confused me when it started talking about having a healthy heart, which is great, but I want to lose weight. If I eat meats that aren't necessarily lean, will that affect my weight loss? The lowfat yogurt I bought, plain, has maltolose or something with "ose" which means sugar, that can't be good for phase 1? Some meals, particularly breakfast, I don't have very many veggies, is that a problem, even if I have a lot at lunch?
I keep thinking my slow loss is due to me not following it right. But others eat at taco bell and stuff, so I am probably not cheating terribly if I am, it's because I am not sure. Another example, I had staek and egg and cheese from McDonald's , threw bagel away. That probably wasn't totally on the beach, but good, right? Right now I am eating anchovies, feta, tomatoes and leaf lettuce w/ vinegar, seems beachy, but I am still paranoid.
Anyone share my concerns? :? |

blondebtrfly - it is so inspiring to me to see your slow and steady weight loss has paid off. I, too, started at a size 13/14. I haven't seen a dramatic weight loss at all and I have been dieting for 4 weeks. I stayed on P1 for 2 weeks...no more. I even read somewhere that if you weren't losing a lot of weight in P1 then you should move immediately to P2 to jump start your weight loss. Anyway, I am now starting my 5th week in P2. Like I said, the pound haven't dropped too much...about 6 pounds (which I still think is awesome) but people have started commenting on my weight loss AND I bought a skirt and jeans from Old Navy this weekend...they were both size 10! If that's not a motivator, then I don't know what is! Anyway, the point I was trying to make (although now I think I'm just rambling) is just because the scale tells you you're not losing any weight, it doesn't mean you're not losing inches. I'm not making any sense right now...Monday morning and all...but, everyone, keep your chin up...this diet is so nonrestrictive and it really works!
Thank you for your time...have a lovely day (yes, I am a huge dork). |

Blondebutterfly-
Are you currently exercising more than you used to and did you exercise during phase 1? Wow, I am impressed by your progress. I had dramatic weight loss the first time I did phase 1 but I wasn't eating the right foods to have energy. Now on my second time around I have added a little more carbs (like half of a regular protein bar) before my workouts and I feel much better although the weight loss is slower.
When you moved on to Phase 2 what were the first "Carbs" that you added--- was it bread, pasta, fruits...?
Congrats! |

Blondebutterfly,
Thank you so much for your post. It really is so inspiring. I had slow weight loss in phase 1 and then when I went to phase 2 I lost 1 pound in 3 days which was so awesome for me. I am so happy that you achieved your goal and now I feel like I can achieve mine to. You have been such a blessing to this board, thank you. |

Hi,
In response to the question about exercise - I wasn't exercising before the diet, didn't exercise in Phase 1 and did not exercise in Phase 2. I have an ankle injury which really limits what I can do, but most people think I have been working out constantly since I have gotten so much smaller. I really thought it would take longer too since I can't exercise, but 2 months went by so fast and next thing I knew I wearing size 7 and had to give all my old clothes away. That felt really great ! I went from a 32 inch waist to 27 inches within 8 weeks. And my stomach wasn't the real problem, it was my butt and thighs. I am one of those people who look like a pear when I am heavier. Now I look balanced and just feel great. I think I might even buy a bikini ! My daughter is used to me hiding at the pool, so she would be amazed if I actually put my insecurities aside and just had fun. My husband knows I have lost weight, but he has no idea how much difference 24 lbs make on someone who is smallboned and only 5'5" - can't wait until he comes home !
The carbs I added first were 6 grain low carb bread and whole wheat pasta, plus whole grain cereal and I was so happy to drink milk again, Viva Skim Delight is something I can not live without.
Good luck and hang in there ! |

5 inches off your waist and 24 pounds is an amazing weight loss, blonde.
How much do you weigh now? Do you want to lose more? I ask because we are the same height and waist size (I weigh 137 and want to lose about 15 more pounds and 2 more inches from my waist and hips). |

Hello from Germany -
I lost 6 pounds in P 1 - went onto P2 but did not really know what to change.
AND THEN after not having ANY chocolate for 3 weeks - I had ChOCI
all weekend - cake and bars.
Felt terrible afterwards - and waight 2 pounds more Monday morning.
I could not believe it...
And I am going to Greece next monday for a week - Not the bikini figure
yet.
But at least through this forum I see that y´all stuggle just the same.
How often do you all eat carbs in P2?
I don´t think I understood what I am supposed or allowed to eat in phase two
yet - After my choci experience - do I need to go back onto phase one
for a few days ???
oops a lot of confusion
Sunny greetings from Hamburg

I'm so glad I read this thread. Thanks blondebtrfly.I was feeling really discouraged, asking myselfm "why, why can't I just lose weight." I work out 7 days a week, follow the SBD diet and nothing. I lost 3-4 pound on PI in my first 1.5 week, but I weighed myself today, and it seems like I'm back to where I started at. I'm 5'1, 115-119 pounds, my goal is to lose 10-15 pounds. Maybe it's because I worked out too much, and I wasn't eating enough on the diet.
Were the SBD meal plans made to go with intense cardio/weight workouts? PI ended this Tuesday for me (it's now Thursday), but I'm still following the SBD meal plan. Should I just go to P2?
I really just want to lose these 10 pounds...5 pounds to start, and then lose it. Thank you for sharing your story. You give me hope as I venture into P2. Any advice on exercise and my diet? I feel like my clothes fit looser and my mid-section looks "thinner"; however the scale hasn't changed...if anything it goes back up.
Best |
