Hi.
I've started the SBD today. I have fighted my weight for years. I lost about 40 pounds on a diet years ago, but it was the diet from hell. I couldn't eat any of the things I enjoy! So, when I started to eat normal things, the weight came back and it has stayed up. So I found SBD and now I have the book and I'm ready to start. My current weight is 220 and I'm hoping to lose about 70 pounds..
I've been reading the forums and it's been very useful, because I have read that a bunch of you have lost weight. I think I'm more commited to lose weight now, because with my DH are thinking about having children. And I want to be as healthy as possible before that. For me and for my future baby.
So, here I go... wish me luck and I'll be posting my experiences with SBD. |

Best wishes on your new journey! I'm brand new to the forums, in fact never knew they existed! I was searching online for some new Phase 1 recipes and low and behold, I found this site! I can't wait to go read more of it!
I started the SBD way of eating almost exactly a year ago. I've lost 50 lbs, and last October started eating phase 3 (although it was too early if I was only using SBD to control weight, more below).
Late 2006, I went to the Dr because I felt like crap, and had for a long while. Always tired, kinda felt like a flu bug had settled in me for the winter, cranky, bloated feeling, retaining water though I felt like I was always drinking water and getting rid of it. Found out I was diabetic and my triglycerides were sky high! The Dr referred me to a nutritionist, who taught me the American Diabetic Association Diet with all the exchanges and I followed it for 6 weeks. After going back to the Dr after those 6 weeks of following the ADA diet, my blood sugar only slightly went down and triglycerides stayed the same.
Not wanting to go on medication, I asked if there was anything else my Dr could suggest. Yes...she said go to the library and pick up the SBD books, try it for 6 weeks and let's see what happens.
I did that, followed it and whooo hooo....6 weeks later my blood sugar was in normal ranges, the triglycerides were way down almost to normal and I'd lost 21 pounds.
I had started SBD to control the high blood sugar, not really to lose weight...heck, I just wanted to feel better! The weight lost was a huge boost though and I have not changed back to old eating habits. I just feel so much better I can't ever imagine going back.
Last week, I returned to Phase 1 and will stay on it another week and then back to Phase 2. I do still have weight to lose, and this time my goal is to do just that since the blood sugar is normal. To me, it's not a good thing to aim for losing any particular amount in a time range. I see that as setting myself up to fail. I will lose weight, I know that. It's good enough to know I am much healthier, feel much better and when people tell me I am looking good...no harm in that, right!
Hope to see how you are doing along your journey, and I hope that you will be blessed with both good health and a baby!
