Hiya... My name is Joi (Joey) and I am a 26 year old married mother of a beautiful 5 month old girl. I've been overweight most of my life. I always carried my weight well so even when I did lose weight people never noticed. If I was ever to tell people what I weighed, the didn't believe me. I knew i needed to lose weight but NOTHING worked. I ended up just gaining more and more... it is a vicious cycle.
I didn't really gain any extra weight due to my pregnancy. I only gained 21 pounds during my entire pregnancy and it all came off within the first month after she was born. So... the only thing that is different since she was born is my shape. I have a lot more belly fat and even though I weigh the same as before I got pregnant I can't wear my old clothes.
My starting weight was... ~gasp~... 267 lbs. :o I am 5'9" and am in a size 20 or 22 in pants, and 18 tops from Lane Bryant (depending on style). My goal is to be either a size 12 or 170 lbs. It all depends on which happens first.
I am currently on Day 2 and doing well. I normally don't have cravings for sweets, so it doesn't seem like that would be a hurdle. Oh my... when i went to the store to grab some things today, I swear everything loaded with carbs jumped at me. EVERYTHING!!! LOL I didn't waver... I've never been that impulsive food shopper and I refuse to be.
I feel really good... believe it or not... I've already lost 3 pounds. I'm not going to update this daily with what i ate (unless I have a GREAT recipe). My daughter is going to be 5 months old on the 18th and I know it isn't realistic to get on here daily. i can't even update her site all the time. soooo, I'd love to hear from other people. Encouragement is always welcome!!

Hey joi!
My name is Jenn, I'm a 24 year old newlywed (!), nursing student, and waitress. My new husband has the metabolism of a hummingbird, so he definately doesn't need to diet. He also eats very few veggies, he mostly likes meats, potatoes, and desserts. We have completely different eating habits. Here is what we've started doing...
I'll cook about 3 different things for myself once a week...usually a casserole, a pot of soup, and a big veggie side dish. The recipes on this forum are terrific...I'll suggest some if you'd like. Then I freeze part of the meals and put the rest in the refrigerator for later on that week. Three nights a week, I'll make the husband quesadillas, lasagna, etc...nothing that takes real long. That is when I'll eat my "leftovers." The other couple nights I'll make steaks, chicken, lean burgers...stuff we both like, and just fix different sides. Now, we don't have an infant to contend with, so I don't know if you'll have the time for this! I've definately gotten to be a little selfish with my eating, though. If I don't want to cook for him, than he either makes something for himself or grabs something out. But that is okay...I know he'd rather see me stick to the diet and be happy with my body!
Sorry this is so long...let me know if you have any questions...good luck!!! |

Welcome to the beach. Just reading the journals has helped me get ideas. My husband can eat anything and everything. Never gain a pound. I have things in freezer like frozen burritos that he can just pop in microwave. I am lucky because my job is at a meal site so lunch time he eats what we serve. Then in evening I will probably get a chili at Wendys, and sometimes one for him then he can come home and eat whatever else he wants. Hope it all works out and have fun with that baby. They grow up so fast. My baby is 17 and Im trying to deal with this.

Jenn & Kelsey~
Thanks so much for the ideas! How long have you been doing this and what kind of progress have you made? I feel really good about this!! It doesn't seem like a diet to me and that is what I think is really going to help me out! :)
My husband has some weight to lose but I know that he is not ready to totally give up his sandwiches and potatoes and pasta. I think that once i lose a noticable amount... it will inspire him too! :P
I do actually have a pretty good handle on getting meals made with Kaidence being around. I usually made stuff in the crock pot or made several meals at once and froze them. What my husband has been doing is eatting the same things as me plus some rice, pasta or potatoes. He found out that he LOVES turkey bacon... it's kinda funny!
I am so excited about this! I take Kaidence for a walks in her stroller , it is FINALLY nice enough around here to take her out! So.. the exercise thing is going well too!!!
Thanks so much for your input!! Feel free to give more!! :)

I started April 5 and have lost 44 pounds. I had a lot of fluid hanging on me and most of it is gone. The best part is my diabetis is needing less medicine. I noticed this on day 2. Sometimes I think I have eaten too much but then I really look at it and compared to what i ate before SB
and now even though I can have good carbs I notice I have forget to have them. This weight loss was without excercise that will be my next plan I have a bad back and knees so I need to go to the pool. I have no good excuses not to go. I have to decide and just do it. Im hoping Tuesday to go. They let me in pool with the seniors and its free. So I need to go. Hopefully Tuesday Someone push me in...
Enjoy that sweet daughter

Hey Joi!
I started the last week of Feb. to lose some weight for my wedding...I've dropped 28 lbs since then...going from 203 to 175 (I'm 5'10''). I kind of stalled because I ate what I wanted during "wedding week" and haven't been exercising quite as much as I was...but I'm training for a half-marathon so I'm going to be running ALOT more in the upcoming weeks.
BTW, I went to your website...your little girl is absolutely precious! We're not having kids for a few more years, but seeing your pictures made me want a baby now!!!!
Take care,
Jenn |

Hiya again Jenn & Kelsey~
My daughter is some of the best motivation I have EVER had for getting healthy! I don't want her to have to deal with the same fat issues I did. And you know that kids are more likely to be over weight if their parents are!
I'm doing quite well. My Mom has decided to jump on the bandwagon, too!! So thst is exciting! And Brandon, my husband, said he doesn't mind eatting the same as me. He still gets carbs in his lunch but I''m not too sure how to pack a lunch for him that would be quick and SB friendly. I just have to look at more recipes I suppose! :)
My brother and his girlfriend came over to visit last night and I made them dinner. I got rid of a lot of the food I can't have... hee hee! She said she already noticed a difference on me. Is that possible?? LOL
Well... it is another nice day out and I think Kaid and I need to trek down towards the beach if it isn't too windy. She hasn't seen the lake yet! :)
Have a great day!

End of week one... and I've lost 13 lbs! :) Yippee!!! I am so excited about this! Both of my parents decided to start too!
This is so great! I know a lot of it is fluid... but it is fluid that is no longer there!! :)
Sorry I didn't update the last few days, Kaidence has an ear infection. Her fever got up to 103.6 she's doing a lot better already though! Thank You, God! The doctor said I caught it before it got really bad. I'd hate to see how bad she'd be if it was full-blown.
Well.. I need to get going to get some laundry done while she's down!
I can't wait to take my measurements now!!! I'm going to do that every two weeks I think. Wow... this is really working! And it isn't even a struggle. I am so happy!! :) |

Faerie~ Don't be jealous... I'm sure you are doing great, yourself! I don't know what it is but this fits my life!!! I actually have to remind myself to eat snacks and to make dinner. Crazy??
I love everything about SB. I feel absolutely GREAT!!! It is so crazy that I've only been doing this just over a week and my clothes are already loose!
Well... Kaidence is sleeping her pretty little head off. I'm hoping she'll still sleep tonight... not too likely though *sigh* Best of luck to everyone else... I've got some eBay auctions calling my name!

This is so cool!!! My husband is eatting the same breakfast and dinner as me and his regular "guy lunch". He's lost 5 or 6 lbs since I started! :) Not bad for him not really "doing this"... LOL
Update on Kaidence: She's doing a ton better!! She's eatting like normal and is getting back to the normal swing of things! :) It is soooo nice to have my lil' girl back again! She was just so miserable before... just crying out of nowhere. I know she's cutting teeth too... but she's back to her sweet self. THANK YOU, GOD!!!
I'm doing pretty good... today was kinda BLAH... I didn't have any cravings for bad food or anything. I just didn't feel like cooking vegetables. LOL I love them, I just am eatting them much more than I usually did.
I also started this with a list of "Good items" from somebody who neglected to mention skim milk is okay and that tomatoes are fine. LOL I looked at the book over the weekend and WOW... there were a lot more things that I could be eatting that I didn't realize! LOL How funny! Maybe that is why I lost more in teh first week than normal... I dunno... just a thought.
My parents came up to visit us on Saturday and it was really nice. They are doing SB too, so I made a nice Pork tenderloin in the crock pot w/ a can of chicken broth, pepper, salt and garlic powder. OH MY GOODNESS!!! Was that ever good! Brandon (my husband) was upset when he realized that it was all gone with what I dished up. OOPS! :)
It has been raining the past few days here so I haven't been able to get out and walk with Kaidence. It seems to be the only exercise I can get in since she sleeps on walks. She doesn't let me do aerobics or anything in the house while she naps... she just wakes up after I warm up. So... maybe we'll get some nice weather or she'll get past that.
I think I may do my measurements at the end of P1 instead of waiting til the end of Week 4. I think it will be more satisfying to know what those 2 weeks can do! :) My pants are quite loose and I am totally loving it! Oh well if I need to buy more clothes... I've never complained about it before. YIPPEE!!!
Have a great night... gonna snuggle on the couch with Brandon!! He finally got a weekend off.
Nighty-night!

I weighed myself this morning and I know I'm supposed to wait until my week markers... BUT I am at 250 even... less than when I got married (by 2 pounds)... So that is a total loss of 17 pounds... It'd be nice if as much came off in week 2 as week 1. Not looking like it though... darn. :)
I think I'm going to do phase 1 for an extra week... then phase 2 for a few weeks then back to phase 1 for 2 more... does anyone know if this is "okay"? I've just got so much to lose and this seems to be working!! I do know that you are not supposed to do Phase 1 for more than 4 weeks straight. Help!!!
Well... Kaidence needs her diaper changed (woo hoo) so I should wrap this up.
Laters!
