I started the south beach diet in August. So far I have lost 20 pounds and am still losing about 3 pounds a week. I have noticed that just with the 20 pound I lost, my skin is sagging alot, especially the top of my arms. My skin all over feels jiggly like jello. My husband says that weight lifting will help tighten it up but I'm not so sure. My goal is to lose another 80 pounds so I'm worried that by the time I get to my goal, I will have so much skin hanging that it will be pathetic. I am 47 years old now. About 5 years ago I lost 70 pounds fairly quickly but unfortunately gained back 40 pounds after a year and a half. I don't remember my skin hanging so much after losing that much. Could it be because I am older? What can I do to tighten things up?

older is a big part of it - I'm concerned about 3# a week, that's a little fast if you're still going at that rate, the faster you lose it, the less able your body will be to suck it back up. Are you getting all your good oils, vitamins, and dairy? Those are all important for good skin tone.

your husband is right to an extent... but 3 lbs a week after already a 20 lbs lose is kinda alot and your skin isnt getting time to shrink naturally...

even though im right there with you in the amount per week but im also 17yrs your jr and age plays a big role with it...

drinking lots of water and getting all your vitamins will also help...

I have been riding an exercise bike for 30 minutes twice a day. I have a Total Gym that I could use for weight training but I was not sure if that would do anything to tighten up the skin. Maybe the fact that I am older now has alot to do with it and nothing I do will help.

47 is not old.... :D and it's never too late to start!

Exercise does help to improve your skin's elasticity (even for us more mature people.) Exercise improves your circulation and increases the blood flow to your skin.
Sweating is a great "natural moisturizer"!

Also (along with a healthy diet and your exercise)... don't forget to drink your water (this also helps promote skin elasticity).
