For the first few weeks on SBD I had no reflux, but now it has come back. I started taking nexium again, but my weight has stalled and gone up as well. Has anyone else had this experience on Nexium. Also does anyone have any advice for the reflux? It seems to be occurring all the time no matter what I eat.
Thanks

clarri, I had problems with reflex, used Nexium with almost no benefit - then used Reglan for about a month - haven't had any problems until recently and they are mild [and related to recent increase in my diet soda consumption....

Are you doing the typical - loose waistbands, elevated head of bed [not just more pillows], no heavy intake shortly before bed?

Hi DebbieC
Thanks for your reply. Trouble is I find the Nexium is good, but obviously not for my weight. I dont really have a problem with it at night, just during the day. But dont want it to be affecting my weight.

I would use the acid reflux as one of the measures when you're testing added p2 foods.

I do remember one time that you posted about this and mentioned having "wheat bread"-- maybe it isn't whole wheat. Or maybe ww won't work for you, or bread won't work for you (it's pretty processed). It's about experimenting.

Hi Kimbourni
Thanks for that. I was wondering that myself, but for instance, I have been having a slice of rye bread for brek, and didnt take my meds this morning but didnt have any reflux, so dont know if that is the problem. will moniter it over the next few days and see how it is, maybe i will just have to concede that I cant eat bread. But I am really hoping to try and kick start my weight loss again. Can anyone give me advice. I am hoping that it is the meds.
Oh well, thanks for advice, and keep it coming, I need all the help I can get.

I checked this online resource and it didn't mention weight gain as a side effect. (I know you just stopped losing, but your're trying to lose, so kind of the same thing to a person not trying to lose I think) http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/Uses/0,3915,550180%7CNexium,00.html

I haven't heard of this as a side effect of Nexium. I'd check with your doctor and see if they have any ideas. It might just be the P2 transition process and will take care of itself over the next few weeks. (the weight stall/gain, not the reflux itself) I'd keep a food log and note the reflux episodes and see if you can find any correlations. It may also be a signal of a medical condition that warrants further medical investigation.

Good luck and hang in there!

Maybe a pint of that perfect draught Guinness would help! ;)

Hi Redrox
Thanks for your post. I also have looked at various sites, and there are conflicting experiences, so I am not going to say it is the Nexium, but I think maybe water retention?
I have decided I have to do some research and try and change my daily diet. I feel maybe I am eating too much, and I have to really adjust my meals. Maybe I will see some moves in my weight. And as the reflux had gone for a while I may just start back on p1 and start all over again adding grains and fruit, because I feel that may have something to do with my stall.
And I really dont like Guinness, even if I am Irish!!! My DP is a big fan though, and believe you me, after he has had a night on the Black Stuff, one would need a big fan if you know what I mean!!!!!!
