I'm guessing no becuase I have spend 3 weeks on phase 1 and only lost about 5 lbs.....and I don't see any difference in the way I look, so I'm guessing that is mostly water weight.
I basically went from eating every and anything I wanted to ONLY what I was allowed on the SBD......I went from not working out AT ALL to working out 5-6 days of week (1 hour cardio), and sometimes twice a day.......
The only thing I've noticed is that what muscle I did have is a little firmer.
I'm so frustrated and thinking that maybe low-carb isn't what my body will respond to.
I started this process 2 months ago (eathing healthy and exercise....SBD only for the last 3 1/2 weeks though) in the hopes that I could just drop 10lbs before my vacation on the 19th.....I didn't think 10lbs and a little less fat was too much to ask to lose in 2 months! I guess I was wrong.
I now only have 2 weeks before my vacation and I'm pretty much screwed. I look just as fat as I ever did and not wanting to be caught dead in a bikini.
Sorry for the venting, but I'm just SO frustrated that I can TOTALLY change my lifestyle from fast food and sitting around to healthy/low carb and exercise 5-6 times a week and get no results after over a month of this.
And maybe it's becuase I really don't have that much too lose but it doesn't make it any more comforting that i've busted my butt for nothing...... |

several things:
for someone who is only trying to lose 15 pounds, 5 pounds in three weeks is a very good start. as most on the board can attest, the last 10 pounds are the hardest, especially if losing them will put you on the lower end of the healthy BMI range. it can take MONTHS for people to lose the last 10 pounds.
i am not sure why you spent three weeks on phase 1, that is not the "weight loss" phase and our bodies are not meant to eat like that for longer than the two weeks Dr. A planned unless you are severely obese.
if you are working out and noticing firmer muscles, you could also be gaining muscle mass in addition to losing fat, which will make the scale give a higher reading even though you may have lost inches.
SBD isn't about a quick fix to drop weight, it is a lifestyle change. if you are willing to eat healthy and stick to the plan, any extra weight you have will come off eventually, but you need patience and perseverance. keep in mind that while the changes may not show on the outside as quickly as you hope, there are many positive changes happening inside in the way your body chemistry works.
see the FAQ for more info. |

I agree with lovielareau.
P1 weight loss is mostly due to water lost. If you've been eating healthy before P1, (like you did the month before starting SB) the effect won't be as drastic as someone who was only eating junk food !
I can understand your deception, but any healthy diet will make you loose an average of 1-2 lbs a week. If you lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks, you are totally in that range.
Another factor that you might want to take account for is your period. Most women will weight more during that time of the month (can be up to 5 lbs). Personnally, I always lose 1-2 lbs more in the week after.
Maybe you don't see it, but probably that if you're getting firmer, people won't even notice you have 5 lbs to lose. I wouldn't be able to tell a person she needs to lose 5 lbs, unless it is someone I've known for a long while !
I would strongly suggest you move to P2 (add only either 1 fruit or 1 grain/day for the first week). By staying in P1 for too long, you might end up depriving your body of some essentials elements. BTW, SB is not designed to be a low-carb diet (see the FAQ !!!)
Losing the last 5 lbs can be quite hard, so try not to feel too frustrated. There a lot more about exercising and eating healthy than just our weight : better blood pressure, lower diabete risk, cancer risk, etc. People that keep active and eating well won't only live longer that people eating "fast food and sitting around", but even more importantly will stay healthy longer. Might not seems much to you right now, but it's the best gift you can make to yourself ! |

| To add to what was already said, if you think you've done this for "nothing" then if and when you do lose the weight is it going to be worth it to you to keep eating healthy and working out in order to maintain that loss? |

I dont have much to lose. My mini plan is one size or ten pounds.
I have a terrible rash from before I started SBD.
You have to really want to do this.
If you are getting more muscles, then do more aerobics & less weight lifting.
Muscles weigh more than fat so inches do count.
You can also reduce your salt alittle. |

| IMO, it works fine as a permanent lifestyle change program. As a "diet" it is no more or less succssful than any other diet, which is to say it doesn't work. Diets don't work. So perhaps the issue is in the approach and intent and not the program itself. just a thought... enjoy your vacation! |

Can I just start by saying I envy you for already having a more than healthy Body Mass Index of 20.4?
This points out to me that you don't really have that much weight to lose, and that your body probably could not handle losing more than you have done.
You say that you look as fat as you ever did and you wouldn't be caught dead in a bikini? With your current BMI of 20.4? I find this a bit worrying - I admit I don't know you at all, I don't know what your body type is, but it worries me that your perception of your body might be skewed and very harsh on yourself. |

| I've been playing with the same three pounds for 2-3 months. Is it frustrating? Absolutely. But what's my other choice? Go back to the way I was eating before? No, I stay with SB because it's a healthy way of life. Like others said, if you're just trying to lose a few pounds, it's going to be slow. Just the way it is. |

Don't worry....I'm not one of those paper-thin people that thinks they are SO fat and you'd need a magnifying glass to find any fat on them!
No, I have definately real fat....lol....the "hail damage" on the thighs is definately getting less noticible but my belly is still quite the jell-o bowl. That is the part I think that gets me the most frustrated.....I notice changes everwhere but where I want to lose it the most...in the belly. You know that little roll that hang out over the top of your jeans if they fit even a little too tight? (I call it "muffin top").....well, that is what I'm tired of looking at!
I have decided that I'm going to just go back to my healthy balance diet and up my cardio to twice a day. In the end, it's still an input/output system.....if I burn more than I take in, I should lose some fat.
It's just annoying to do SO much work for what appears to be such a little change!
Well, I'm off to go walk/jog......FUN
Thanks for the support.

SB is a healthy, balanced diet. You just never got there because you stayed on p1 too long and didn't follow the plan. |

IMO, your main issue might not be at this point an excess of fat, but more a not firm enough belly. The best you can do to lose your "jell-o bowl" look is to do exercises that focus on abs. Adding cardio is a great idea, but IMO, alternating cardio with strength exercises (or cardio focused on abs) might help you achieve the results you wish for faster !
I'm a fan of DVD workouts. Most of the one I do focus on total body or core exercise (mostly the abs). Even when I didn't seem to lose weight according to the scale, my belly started looking way better! I'm my case, it is still too fat (I have over 20 lbs to lose, so it does show), but it doesn't have that jell-o looks anymore.
Hope you'll find something that fits your style and help you achieve your goals !
In the meanwhile, a "quick" fix would be to find clothes that fits your body as it is now, but I can understand if you're reluctant to buy clothes that you don't want to have to wear in the long run... |

This plan only works for people who
1) Follow it.
and
2) Are willing to make a long term commitment.
First, you should be well into your transition to phase 2 after 3 1/2 weeks. If you don't follow the plan, how can you expect it to work?
Second, you only lose a pound of fat by creating a 3500 calorie deficit. That's a lot harder when your body is already lean. To keep your level of caloric intake high enough to keep you from losing muscle weight, you might only be able to cut 200-300 calories per day. Do the math - it's going to take two weeks to lose a pound. |

| my last 5 lbs took 6 months and I was still in the overweight BMI category at the start of that last push towards a "normal" BMI. A pound a month is a reasonable goal IMO when you have so little to lose, esp. when your BMI is already well within the normal range. That's how it works, verrrry sllloooowwwwlllly.... |

| Nothing works if you don't do it.By not transitionaing and getting to the healthy weight loss phase of SBD you'll never know if it works for you or not. |
