Is anyone going to watch this? I kept seeing commercials for it and hearing all kinds of news stories about it and decided to go looking for the preview. After watching this

I have to watch this show.

<-----Is a tv junkie.

It looks like it'll be an interesting show. I hate to say it but that's one reality show that I may actually try and make time for. :)

On a side note, I find all the lawsuits that are popping up now quite amusing. How on earth do the parents think they can possibly sue when they are the ones who originally signed away all of their children's rights for $5,000?

The parents and the children were aware of what the show was about. They wouldn't be airing the show or recruiting for the next one right now if they had done anything really wrong.

uhhhh, Hello, another one we will be watching with you. Can't wait for DD's to watch as well. Kids are from 8 - 15 in the show. My girls are 7 & 8, they're gonna think this is cool.

I completely enjoyed it.
I felt like applauding the boy who stood up and made the excellent speech.
I felt like hugging the little 8 year old who was so homesick and lonely that he went home.
I cried when the girl called her mom about the gold star.
I rooted for the little kid team Yellow.
I felt like smacking the two older boys who put up graffiti. Smug little brats.

I will be watching again

I loved this show too. Can you believe how much macaroni they made? The little 8 year old boy was absolutely precious. I felt so sorry for him. Personally I wouldn't have let my 8 year old even go out there.

I'm not sure whether it was a good idea or not to tell them about the $20,000 that comes with the gold star. I think maybe they should have left that til the end. Let them have the phone call though.

And those boys from the blue team really ticked me off. I felt like smacking them too.

we watch shows over lunch that someone tapes. I actually left the room after eating. I would normally stick around and watch what is on. I couldn't do it with Kid Nation. The show was just blah to me. I felt so sad for those kids. I get the point, but it truly broke my heart.

You and I were in the same mindset. That little 8 yr. old, I could just eat him up -- too cute. It was sad all of them crying. Made me get all misty eyed myself. Our girls LOVED the show -- we will def. watch the whole season.

I thought it was a good show, I'll probably watch it again. My kids are older, but it's nice to watch something that's not about sex or violence for a change!

Well I think the kids gave the gold star to the right person. Michael.
That kid is going to be something good when he gets older. It is like he is an old soul.
That Greg kid though.. oh boy. You know he was working so hard just to get that gold star. However I need to give him a whole heck of a lot of credit for actually butchering the chickens. According to the previews though he is about to go on a rampage because of not getting the star.
The yellow team needs a talking to. That little prima donna council member needs to be replaced. I feel sorry for the little boy on that team who wants to help out.
Who is that weird little kid with the glasses.. an alien? a genius?

I agree about the Southern Belle -- we were telling our DD's that odds were she would be replaced. Surely those 4 don't remain on the council for the whole thing. There's got to be some sort of voting process that they go through.

Yes, Michael was a good choice. He's been a good kid since day 1. I agree with last weeks choice as well. Greg should think that maybe eventually he'll get it -- just shows that he was only acting good for 1 week for the star.

I've only seen parts of it, and I'm not judging people who watch it...

but personally I find that it is complete child exploitation on the part of the parents, as well as the producers of the show. Completely immoral.

I don't agree. We are watching children learn to make decisions that they will have to learn how to make anyway. It is not like they even have to stay there. They have the option to go home.

I tried to be a big girl, and give the show another chance last night. I thought maybe I didn't have an open mind. I turned it on to see them chopping the heads off chickens. What the heck!!! Of course kids will have to make decisions as they grow up...but I don't think they need to go through all of that. The one little girl ran away. That is just awful. I was really disturbed.

I am going to agree with kickit--

While I do understand what you are saying, at the same time, I feel like giving a child the "option" to go home does not really counteract the fact that they are little kids.. whose parents probably want them to be on the show more than they themselves want to be on the show. Whether they want to be there or not, I am sure many of them are only doing it because it is what their parents want, and they feel that if they leave the show, their parents would be mad or disappointed. When children are that young, they are very simple minded, and cannot think critically for themselves... meaning, if their parents want them to do it, they will do it. I don't know anyone who would ever want to expose their kids on television like that. Maybe if they were teenagers... but 8 and 9 year olds? It seems a bit much.

Edit: All of that aside... the show might be a very interesting and entertaining show... I just haven't been interested in watching it. All I'm saying is to me, personally, without trying to start any type of argument or judge anyone, the show itself seems a little exploitative. But I've been wrong before.. =P
