Feel like a puffy marshmallow

I've been on SB for a long time and never have had this experience before. My weight fluctuates daily, which I'm used to, but for the last week, it's been going steadily up. Not enough to be alarming, but enough to be noticeable.

Also, I've been looking increasingly puffy in the stomach the last few days. Usually you can see my obliques a bit, but right now you can't and my underwear look tight in the waist. One of my shirts also felt tight today.

I'm really concerned. I've been having dizziness/chest pain so my doctor advised me to lay off the exercise for a few days, so I took an extra day off one week (I work out six days per week) but other than that...well, I haven't really been taking it easy. I've still been working out as usual. In fact, the last two days, I upped the intensity a little.

To head off a few questions, it's not even near TOM, I'm not pregnant, I've been drinking tons of water and I haven't been eating any more salt than usual or eating anything out of the ordinary. I have noticed I'm feeling a little...stopped up...lately (sorry to be TMI), so I've been taking some extra fiber supplements. (I usually take 1 per day; the last few days, I've been taking 1-2.)

I'm baffled. Any ideas?

Just wanted to add, for the fifth or sixth day in a row, I am up again today.

I'm not a newbie freaking out over .1 lbs after transitioning to P2...this is several pounds with no downward movement whatsoever and a major change in how I look and feel (puffy, bloated, big belly, etc.)... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm... maybe it could have something to do with the increase in intensity of your exercise...? And are you making sure to get extra water with the extra fiber supplements? That's really important.

I'm sure someone else will have better suggestions than me!

it could just be that you are "stopped up" you may want to consider a laxative if the fiber supplements don't do the trick. just make sure you get a stimulant-free one, as the stimulants ones can cause a lot of pain and stomach issues. hope you feel better soon.

alternatively, if your doctor advised you to rest for a few days, please do so! if your body is giving you signals that it is under stress, upping the intensity of your workouts may just make matters worse. relax for a few consectutive days and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys...

I'm getting increasingly alarmed. My stomach looks even more gigantic today despite an intense workout last night. I took a "gentle" laxative before bed (I had to get stimulant, because the only kind I could find without stimulant is the regular fiber stuff that I take as a supplement anyway, and it's not working) and still nothing's happened. I woke up nauseous but no movement. It says it could take up to 12 hours, so I've got about another three hours left. After that, it says if there are no results, to go to the doctor. Yikes. I'm so worried. :( I'm starting to get paranoid that a switch has been turned off in me and suddenly I won't be able to lose any more weight. I know it's irrational sounding but... I'm nervous! :(

I was too scared to go on the scale today. Do you think once things start moving again I'll look less bloated and go back to the way I looked last week?

Hey cort...

Are you still doubling up on the fiber supplements?

Maybe try discontinue using them for a day or two and up your veggie and fruit (and water) intake a bit more than normal. Don't forget to drink lots of water....
Prune juice, dried plums, ground flaxseed (and water).... also helpful in loosening bowels.....

And in addition to drinking lots of water..... DO call your doc if you are concerned, it will put your mind at ease. :D

I suffer from constipation since I went on SB several years ago. I just started P2 and the issue is back. One time, I did have to take a mild laxative 2 nights in a row before anything got moving. (I am experiencing this issue today BTW).

It should not hurt to try that. After you go, if you still have bloating, you should go back to see the doctor.

Thanks, guys, for putting up with my neurotic ramblings! I used a laxative last night and although there was a little progress this morning, I still don't feel right. I'm going to try taking it again tonight but I don't want to go overboard, either. Ugh.

I made a doctor's appt for Tuesday, that's the soonest they had a time that works...if I feel better before then, I can always cancel it...I'm just nervous that this weirdness doesn't seem to be going away, and my stomach seems to be getting bigger and bigger...

Feeling any better?

Thanks, Hot40, I am feeling a little bit better today. Still a little puffy but my stomach is nowhere near as distended as it was the other day. I'm hoping I'll be back to normal by the end of the weekend...I've got my fingers crossed! :)

Could be cortisol from the stress?

I actually feel less stressed lately than usual! :)

I was thinking in terms of the stress caused by having possible medical issues.

You really need to be following the doctor's recommendations. But you know that. What you're describing could be related to the heart condition, if there is one. Extra fluid can collect in your body. I wouldn't take this lightly. Follow orders, and follow through on getting in for an appointment.
