Rosetrail

Hello, all. I am little late joining the September Warriors but very glad to be here. Happily I see a lot of my August teammates - hollah!

This recipe is my lazy SBD friendly Turkey Chili.

1 small to medium onion
1 package of low-fat ground turkey
1 can diced tomatoes (I try to buy low sodium)
1 can cannellini beans
1 can kidney beans
Fresh or minced garlic to taste
cayenne pepper and chili powder to taste
1 - 2 tablespoons olive oil

Dice onion and sautee in 1 table spoon olive oil over low heat in large sauce pan until soft and glassy in appearance. Remove onion from pan.
Brown and crumble ground turkey, adding second tablespoon of olive oil if necessary. Add garlic, cayenne pepper and chili powder to taste. Return onion to browned turkey. Open cans of tomatoes, white beans and kidney beans, add to sauce pan and stir until well combined. Simmer over low heat for 5 - 10 minutes. This goes from ingredients to table in about 20 minutes, which is great for a busy night. I usually serve with a salad, but have eaten as a one-bowl meal before.

I will get the link to my journal by tomorrow.

OGB this is the best challenge, I am really
following the SBD very closely - it is amazing
how little things can ease their way into
the daily diet eg. lots of condiments and
maybe an extra glass of wine with dinner.

That is out now for me to get the following
SB points.

This is one of my favorite desserts and it’s totally PH1 friendly.

I can't translate name in English but it’s called Snenokle and its easy to make.

3 eggs
120 grams Slenda (this is too much splenda, use 5-6 spoones)
2 cups milk

Divide whites from yolks. Beat together whites and 60 grams of Splenda. Beat it until it really firm. Next boil milk and with spoon start making little balls out of whites and place it in boiled milk. Leave it for couple minutes and turn. After few minutes take it out. Then beat yolks and the rest of splenda together. Stir it with milk and let it cook until it gets thick. When its all cooked pure milk over the whites and let it cool. It looks like vanilla pudding with marshmallows.

Ooh, that sounds really interesting Dee, I'll have to give it a try! Never would have thought to put those things together.

OGB, what a great idea to have everyone put their fav recipes...it is really motivating to see some new stuff!

Hi Everyone!

I am FINALLY close to being settled in. I hate moving!

Here is my recipe:

Red Lentil Soup

1 pound red lentils, cleaned
8 cups chicken broth
1 medium onion
1 cup baby carrots
2 stalks celery
2 tbsp olive oil
cumin, black pepper, red pepper, salt - all to taste

Chop onion, carrots and celery. Saute in a pot in the olive oil. Add the spices and continue cooking until veggies are fairly soft. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add lentils and turn down heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 12-15 minutes. The lentils should be broken down and will turn yellow. The soup is done! Makes tons of leftovers, so good for freezing.

I like to throw in some spinach/mache/some kind of green at the last second, and some nonfat sourcream or yogurt on top. Next time, I'm going to add some tomato paste and/or diced tomatoes as well.

Wow, great recipes! Going to have to try Dee's interesting sounding desert and most of the others!

I am having problems with my right foot hurting (really bad) during aerobics. I know the tile floor isn't good for you, but why???? I've bought two new pairs of shoes and they didn't help. Any ideas anyone?

Other than that, doing good on the weight loss and workouts. Got a killer headache today, so don't really feel like eating much and my body dragged during my workout. Hopefully with a hot bath and a good nights sleep I'll be ready to bust cheek in the morning! Have to move furniture tonight, having bedroom painted over the weekend!

Made this as a side for lunch today. . .oh it was yummy. I’m gonna call it Crunch Salad because it was really crunchy.

Crunch Salad
2 C. fresh spinach, washed
2 slices turkey bacon, cooked crispy and chopped up
¼ C. coarsely diced red onion
½ Gala apple, cubed
6 pecans or walnuts, coarsely chopped
light sprinkling of feta cheese
lemon juice to taste

Mix everything together and add the lemon juice. . .i think it adds great flavor so I use a lot, but at least use a little to keep the apples from browning. I didn’t even dress this with anything else and it was tasty, pretty good for a girl who literally DUMPED ranch dressing on salads a few months ago. Happy eating guys!

Hello, all. Cheeky, I am really excited to see your lentil recipe. I love eating them, but I rarely cook them. I can't wait to try your recipe.

PP - I am so sorry to hear about your foot trouble. I might have some ideas for possible solutions if you can tell me a little more about it. I spent several years as a personal trainer, so I have a little (not too much) knowledge and some great book resources on my bookshelf that might help. So, at the risk of sounding like a quack doctor, can you tell me where it hurts? Is the pain only when you exercise? All the time? Worse in the morning? Does it hurt in the ball, arch or heel? If it sounds like a one of the common foot ailments I have experience with, I would be happy to offer some possible help and direct you to some great resources.

Hi, all, I am going to have to bow out of this challenge. I am just way too busy right now to keep up with posting and keeping track of things. I'll be keeping it beachy over here, and checking in with all of you to see how things are going, but please take me out of the challenge. Thanks!

JamieM - sorry you have to back out. It does take time!

Rose - the pain is in the ball of my foot, not the toes or right under the toes and it feels like a deep pain. It is only when I do aerobics, jumping around a lot, low impact doesn't hurt - but I like to bounce! Doesn't hurt at Curves, but they have the cushioned boards that I jump on. I did have my foot impressions done for orthodics, just waiting for DH to fill out his forms. I quit Jazzercise a couple years ago, cause the tile floor hurt my feet there also. Ok, truth be told, class never started on time and I was missing Survivor - but the feet were a good excuse! I really like the workout I'm getting and don't want to give it up, but was almost in tears on Wednesday - part pain and part frustration! Any advice is welcome!

Hi everyone,

I am really enjoying checking the site and hearing about the great recipes. The Crunchy Salad sounds great!
Today was my 41st Birthday. I brought in the snacks for my staff meeting and decided I was going to bring things that I could enjoy. I brought a huge platter of raw veggies with hummus and made a triple berry fruit crisp (modified to be beachy) that was awsome. I did allow myself to splurge after a dinner of lobster and broccoli with a scoop of ice cream and two chocolate balls. I wont get my points for the day but I feel like I did pretty good considering I would normally have made a hardcore chocolate cake w/ice cream and would be eating the left overs for the next few days. I am going to the gym tomorrow and plan to be back on track. I have to say I'm looking pretty good for a chick over 40, thanks to this eating right and exercising bit :

mauijoy--Happy Birthday! Way to go on not going overboard. That was one of the first things that improved with me after I adopted the Beach lifestyle...moderation at celebratory eating events. I let myself have a piece of cake or some other foods that I like, but I either threw out the leftovers or just didn't make enough to have leftovers. Awesome!

Jadzia

Maujie - Happy Birthday !

PP-
-Tiles floor aren't good, especially when jumping is involved, because it causes more stress to all your joints (especially the knee ones). It increases the risk of injuries. Some doctors also think it may increase the risk of any joints problems (like arthrosis, for exemple). Cushion floor, on the other hand, absorb a big part of the stress, hence making it smoother for your joints.

-Can you bring a cushion mat to your workout place ? Maybe all you need...
- You bought 2 new pairs of shoes... when you bought it, was it at a place where the sellers really know the way shoes affect pp ? Did they give you advice on the type of shoes that would be the best when a lot of jumping is involved ? New shoes are usually better than old ones, but if their purpose is not the one you need, that could explain why your foot hurt !

That being said, since I also have pain in my right foot (same place at you), I may not be the best to advice you... However I'm pretty sure I found the cause (silly one) : I mostly wear high heals when working, and 2 pairs of shoes (the ones I wore the most) became to big for me. Didn't really paid attention to it until my foot started to hurt. I then realized that my feet were supported anymore. I'm kind of hoping that a week long without any high heals will help me recover from this.

Jadzia - Thanks for the advice. I knew when I walked in and saw the tile floors it wasn't good. Mats won't work as it's a class room setting with a lot of movement. I was hoping with the weight loss I could handle it, but age I think also makes a difference. A lot of the older (than me) women don't do high impact, so that's probably why it doesn't bother them.

The two pairs of shoes I bought are for cross training and aerobics specifically. The one pair (cross trainers) seemed too lose in the footbed area, which is why I bought the second pair. I'm a flat shoe gal, did my fair share of high heels and standing all day in my twenties. Said enough of that! I can fall off my shoes that are 1/2 inch, so I stay away from heels!

I'm going to order a pair of workout shoes made specifically for my foot issues, with built in orthodics. I'm hoping they will help, if not I'll have to try another class that is in a better for you enviroment.

mauijoy Happy Happy Birthday! WTG not over indulging! It was your birthday and you should be able to enjoy it a little!

Guess I need to get going to workout. Overslept 1/2 hour and feel rushed today. Having a hard time getting motivated to workout, hopefully my endorphins kick in!
