I am a mega fan of thrift stores, too, and in my area there is this great shop that specializes in second hand plus size clothes. Women who have lost a lot of weight quickly through gastric bypass surgery sell their clothes to the shop and they are resold very cheaply. A couple of months ago, I got a pure cashmere sweater for $4...with the tag still on it!

Nims--I have an mp3 player that I use while walking. It was inexpensive and easier to use than my iPod. It holds about 18 CDs and only cost $60.

pp--Thanks for the compliments on my before and during pics. I was totally beaming in that picture. I was finally reunited with the love of my life after spending 11 long years apart. It was a wonderful weekend, and he wanted to show off how good I look after losing some weight. Congrats on the liver results! I was just diagnosed with a fatty liver a couple of years ago. I never had an abnormal liver panel from it, but they could see it on ultrasound. Dang it! Hopefully, mine liver will lose some weight just like my cheeks!

Yesterday was fabulous exercise wise. I swam laps and did three 30 minute fast walks with the puppy I am sitting for. He was so worn out, he slept through the night. :)

Hi Guys!

Wow, I hope the weather is a lot better where you all are than it is in Ottawa right now. Raining, grey and muggy - I absolutely cannot stand humidity. It's really dry where I'm from originally (Calgary), and no matter what, I cannot get used to the humidity in Eastern Canada. I decided to relax tonight, stay in and do some research...oh research...sigh

Smurl, I love hearing that you're with the love of your life right now! It sounds like things are going really well for you. When I see people in relationships with the person that is "the one" for them, it gives me hope! He sounds like he's wonderfully supportive. And wow, that was a lot of exercise yesterday! Way to rack up the points! Keep it up, and your liver will be just as healthy as PP's!

KJ - How's your grandma? How are things with your dad? You're doing really well with the fundraiser - and it sounds like you're still enjoying your "friend's" company! I've also noticed that as I get stronger, all of my cardio workouts are so much better and I can go longer and faster. It's such a great feeling! I know that I really need to keep up with the strength workouts now.

Val - I'm with you. These challenges have really made me more conscientious about my workouts, in terms of how often I workout, the variety of exercises that I do, and how much I push myself. I don't think that I would have made it this far without them! I'm hooked - hopefully I'll see you in the September challenge!

Rose - Did you make that appointment yet to get your hair highlighted? I love to treat myself to girlie rewards! Makes me feel pretty AND I get a few hours to relax and not think about anything too serious, haha!

Nims and Kathi - Hope things are going well for you both!

Well, better get down to work. Keep it up ladies! Can't wait to see the results for this week.

cheeky--Love does do wonders for the figure. :D I had another great exercise day today....laps, yoga, two 30-minute high speed walks with the pup in tow. Whoo! And in this heat. I feel like a powerhouse.

i walked to the art museum today and basically glided up the steps! very easy. i should have gone up and down twice! next time, for sure.

hey cheekymo, thanks for askin - things with my dad are better this week - he seems happier, been busier. i have been debating whether or not to take a stand with him on trying to stay over at my guy's apartment tomorrow night..but i think i'm not going to rock the boat any more than i already have, and just suck it up & deal for a few more weeks. oh! by the way, i told my "friend" about this challenge - he offered that our name could have been "team smaller cheeky" - hrmph. no way man! we've got the best name!

sad news: my grandma was diagnosed with non-small cell adenocarcinoma of the lung. she still says she doesn't want any treatment, but we're encouraging her to find out all the facts before she makes that decision. so we'll see what happens.. it's hard because my mom died a few years ago from cancer, and now it's my grandma (mom's mom) who will be dying from it. kinda brings up a lot of feelings, ya know?

RT, i have been getting blond highlights for a few years now - i love it. i used to be the blondest kid when i was little, and then of course the hair darkened...but i brought it back! love the way it looks (but don't love taking care of it, argh). i've been growing it out to donate to Locks of Love, and i'm almost there - just a few more inches i think! the minimum is 10 inches.

val, you always have great things to say about the challenge! thank you. and yes, i think we're leading mainly because we all report each week... the other teams aren't all reporting. i guess we all get what we want out of these challenges. i'm looking forward to september's!

sweet dreams, ladies...

kj--So sorry to hear about your grandma. That must be so hard. My ex-husbands mom has lung cancer and is struggling with her chemo. Hard times. Be strong. And good for you for not falling apart and blowing your diet plan. I know that it can be hard to keep it together when you are going through something so stressful.

Kicked much cheek today. Next week should be even better. I will be back home and at the gym.

thanks smurl - something i have realized in my life is that horrible things happen at the same time as wonderful things. a month or so after my mom died, i met someone who came to mean a lot to me, and who really helped me so much during that tough time - we are still friends and i know i can still count on him for support. so it's kinda interesting that i've met this new wonderful person at the same time as this news of my grandma is coming in and affecting my family. other bizarre things have happened this summer since moving back home, too, like meeting with someone about a job at her house, which was the same exact house in which my mom grew up... freaky! but i have to believe that was not just mere coincidence..

today i'm walking to the art museum again after work with my buds, which should be totally fun.... but this weekend i plan on monster 90+ mins workouts both days - also gotta get that 2nd strength class in at the gym. next week will be moving/heavy lifting up in boston, which should be a great workout in itself!!

i hope everyone has a fantastic weekend - i so love visiting our board, and thank you all for your support - it means so much to me right now! :)

KJ, I am sincerely sorry to hear about your grandma. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I agree with Smurl too. You are doing so well keeping up with your work out amibitions in the midst of all the stress. Hopefully the uplifiting walk with your buds and time with your new "friend" will continue to lift your spirits.

Smurl, thinking of you today. Middle Eastern is for lunch!! Yay! By the way, you are really bustin' cheek! Awesome.

Nims, I used your stories about your running as motivation as I was going up my giant hill at the end of my bike ride home yesterday. The traffic lights and traffic were with me, and it was the fastest time yet for my ride home. Thanks to you all for the continued motivation.

Team TLC, can you advise me on a points question? Would trying a new piece of equipment and exercise in my weight training count as bonus points for trying a new exercise? Or, is that category of points reserved for completely new types of exercise? Let me know what you think...

kj--I know what you mean about tragedy bringing blessings. That has happened to me in the past, too. That is so weird about that meeting at the house your mom grew up in!

Rose--Oh man, I am so jealous! I went to a Greek festival over this past weekend, and it was so good. The best dolmas I have ever had. The spanikopita was not as good as the kind I normally get in my city, but it was pretty good. I would love to have a big plate of tabouleh right now.

Tired today. Haven't gotten a lot of sleep lately. Hope to get at least one cardio in.

Have a good weekend everybody! Mine is filled with all kinds of stuff, so I am not sure how often I will get to post. Go out there and bust some cheek!

kj - sorry to hear about your Grandma and the sadness that it's causing you. Hopefully it's something that she can live with since she doesn't want treament. My mom has a spot on her lung, but they aren't doing anything about it. On a happier note - great job on those stairs! Killer cheek workout! Do you run up them like Rocky Balboa?

Rose - are you still riding your bike to work?

Ok, the liver is good, my other doctor called and wants me to see a specialists because my blood clots too much :?: Guess it's been high since 2005, first I've heard of it! Always something

Doing good on my workouts. DH left for a weekend of fishing, so I can spend my time doing girly things - I too use to be a natural blonde and the darkness is showing! I'm also going to teach myself to do gel nails. I hope to get a nice walk in on Sunday, the only day it's not suppose to rain!

Sounds like everyone is really kicking cheek! We are the best team!!!

PP - Oh yeah! I am riding a lot these days to and from work. This week was slightly less due to weather. If I were really hardcore I would suit up in my rain gear, but when it's raining I just hit the subway! Thanks for asking. Enjoy your girly weekend!

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've been absent the past couple of days. Long story short - had to move out of my place and am staying with a friend for this upcoming week. I'm exhausted and things are only going to get busier coming into the fall - AHH! Anyway... it's early for a Saturday night, but I need to get some sleep. Forgive me! I'll post tomorrow.
Thinking of you all - have a great and active weekend!

Quote: My mom has a spot on her lung, but they aren't doing anything about it.

pp - i am sorry to hear that, i mean not knowing the situation i still imagine it must be hard to kind of stand idly by, not being able to take action.. i know i would be frustrated. also pp, what is the deal, they just never told you about your blood clotting too much?

RT, i think you could probably count that as a new type of exercise..well what do you mean by a new equipment AND exercise in your weight training?

well i'm down another pound from last week.. only 4 pounds away from being under 160! i wonder if i can do it in 2 weeks (by my birthday on 9-9).

had a nice long workout at the gym today - 50 minutes bike/x-c machine, 20-minute strength work (plus a 15-minute stretch). not quite 90+ minutes, but i had to get home for dinner with my grandma...which went well, but i really fear her starting to get thinner and more frail and sick.. she has always been so strong and energetic and happy, so it's going to be rough for me to see her weak. thank you again smurl and RT (and everyone!) for your support.

tomorrow my dad and i are meeting my brother and his 2-year-old at a park near our house..actually it's an old battlefield! should be pretty neat. and tomorrow night i'm going to a little concert in my "friend"'s apartment building, which should be fun too! and then i won't see him for like a week, because he's flying to visit his mom who is having a lumpectomy on monday... interesting that both of our families are being affected by cancer right now. sad, hard. maybe we can support each other, eh.

take care, i hope everyone is having a great weekend!

kj - You should be able to lose those 4 pounds easily! You can do it! Sorry to hear about your having to move suddenly. I've done so much moving in my adult life, I really hate it!
re: the blood clotting, doc mentioned it 6 months ago and had me do a recheck. I was seeing a different doctor until this past year and the other one never mentioned it. She always seemed a little busy, which is why I switched. My mom is 80 and I don't think they figure they'd do anything. They don't even really know what it is. Doesn't seem to bother her.

Woke up yesterday with a killer sore throat, bothered me all day and woke up during the night again. I don't think it's strep, I think it's the warning of a major cold or something. I'm just tired and don't want to eat well. Hopefully a little gardening in the warm sun will help! Finally stopped raining
