Nims--I have been struggling with that very question: when do you buy new clothes when you are losing weight? I have gone down quite a few sizes (30 to 22), and along the way I have HAD to buy new clothes because my old stuff started falling off of me and looking bad. I mean, wearing too-big clothes makes you look heavier than you are. But, who has the money to keep going out and buy new clothes? I am a professor, so I have to look somewhat decent at work. :(

Hi Everyone!

I hope you've all had the chance to get in some exercise this week. Our team has been really strong! Keep it up! I'm so proud of all of us  .

I have to keep it short tonight - really exhausted, and a sort-of-job-interview tomorrow morning, so need to wake up all fresh for it!

As for clothes though - I know it's SO expensive to buy new clothes every few months - but really, it feels so good to put on something new and actually have a sense for how my body has changed! One thing that really helps is to catch the end of season sales for things like jeans, etc. I figure I'll just buy a little bit at a time too, and spend money on things like jeans, pants, jackets, since these are the things I want to have fit me well. I hate saggy pants! For tops and sweaters, I don't worry so much, as I find that they grow/shrink with me pretty well. It's different for everyone I guess - but it's fun to shop!

Hope you all had a great day! Can't wait to see what you all got up to tomorrow :D . Go team!

Woo, I have the computer again tonight, since my friend/neighbor/ex who lives upstairs (its complicated :? ) has been so kind to let me use it!

I got back from a run/jog...it was great cause i wasn't going to go at all, but I just had a weird antsy feeling like I HAD to go exercise. And I ran for almost a mile without stopping which I don't think I've ever done before, even when I used to be in shape. Just did a strength workout and gonna go do some serious stretching. These challanges are the BEST!! Seriously, I love them, and I think this is the coolest team too!

Yeah, with the clothes, it really is the pants that are bugging me, they are all distorted and baggy in the butt...not flattering! Sale racks are a good idea...heeh, I've already spent my budget this month so it'll have to wait til sept. At least dresses look ok still!

Wow Smurl, you have dropped quite a few sizes! What a great feeling to have to keep shopping for smaller and smaller clothes. Congrats on your success!!

Good luck with the job interview, Cheeky!

And congrats to everyone on this team, we are rocking it! I can't believe how fast this challange is going, I almost wish we could extend it....

Yes, Nims, I have gone down a fair amount of sizes. It has been wonderful shopping for smaller and smaller clothes, but also frustrating. Clothes are experience. Lately, I have been sticking to outlet malls.

It is midnight, the witching hour, and I best be off to bed. Got a long day ahead of me tomorrow. Hopefully, it will be filled with exercise.

Nims, I totally agree. This is a great team! I've been so inspired by each and every member of this team over the last two weeks. And, Team TLC, I am proud to report that in spite of a terrible eating day on Monday I am seeing progress on the scale after being in a rut for a bit. I had hoped to lose the first 10 pounds of my ultimate 30 pound goal by the end of the summer. As of Monday, I am only 2.4 pounds away. Yippee. If I can hit that mark before September 1 I am treating myself to a fancy hair appointment.

Cheeky, was your "sort-of" interview and on-campus interview by chance? I hope it went well whatever it was.

Thanks for sharing your non-scale victory with the heavier weights, Val. I am impressed! I'm hitting the heavier weights with a new strength-training routine too, and it feels great. I actually had to scale back yesterday to get enough reps completed, because my muscles were SORE!!

Happy exercising, all!

Rose--I am all about giving myself fun rewards for doing well. A couple of weeks ago, I made it all the way to the top of this huge hill for the very first time, and I bought myself a trashy novel for a reward. Recently, I did a ten-mile walk about bought myself a pedicure. (My first ever.)

If I hit my year-end goal, 250 by Christmas eve, then I will buy myself an elliptical machine. I better start saving now.

kjaceyma

woooo! team!

smurl, i'd love to have my very own elliptical... and not just one of those little bare bones cheap-o ones, either..

RT, you are SO close!! keep up the great work! what sort of hairstyle would you be getting??

cheeky, i'd love to hear about your interview, too!

nims, congrats on the mile run! i love when i can do that without stopping, too..

a lot of my clothes are baggy, too..i wore these pants yesterday that nearly fell off - okay, not really - but it was kind of insane that they stayed on me all day. had to keep pulling my shirt down so i wouldn't keep flashing my underwear to everyone that walked past my office...

i had my yoga class last night with the regular instructor, who i continue to love - i could barely open my eyes again at the end of our "corpse pose" relaxation time... love that instructor and the class too!! i'm moving soon so my gym membership there is ending - ooh maybe she teaches elsewhere, too...gotta look into that.

:) k

kj--Yeah, I have been looking into decent quality ellipticals. A little pricey, but worth the investment.

I am house sitting for someone tonight, so I get to add a 30 minute dog walk to my routine. So laps and a walk. Super sweet.

Rose - WTG! Great job on the weight loss! I'd go ahead and make that hair appointment!

I noticed my shirts are way to big and my pants look like clown pants on me. I pinched my shirt and pants in the back and it looked so much better! Anyway - buy yourself a couple of things that fit right, they make you look so much slimmer! Who can tell we're losing weight if we hide our bodies under baggy clothes! I've heard resale shops are a good place to go or goodwill. I always shop sales, never pay full price! At least not until I lose all my weight!

Got good news from my doctor the other day. My liver panel came back normal! I've been dealing with a "fatty liver" for the last couple years. They kept saying lose weight and keep exercising - guess I finally reached that magic number. I think these challenges have a lot with me finally getting there! Thanks everyone for being such good motivators!

Woo, I just got back from my run and today I went the same route as yesterday and i was able to go even farther!! I never thought I would be able to run more than 1 mile without stopping. This is so crazy!

PP I also love second hand stores, just haven't had much luck recently...they are often hit or miss. ALSO, great news on the liver results!!

Rose, definitely, make the appointment! You are so close to your goal!

Kt, that yoga class sounds great! Makes me miss taking an actual in person class (i've just been doing dvds lately!)

Smurl, OOOh, an eliptical! I love rewards that are encouraging of doing more exercise...like i will sometimes buy myself a new workout dvd or a new mat..etc. Hehe, I'm kinda mean about rewarding myself though cause, like the clothes, rewards can be expensive too, and I guess I am trying to save up for a really big reward like you are! (i'm thinking an ipod would be cool for running!)

Alright, i'm off to the grocery store, then going to watch zodiac...hmm, hope its not too disturbing!

Hi Everyone!

Wow...I am SO EXHAUSTED! Long day - really great workout, but my day was just crammed. Ready for some quality sleep!

Thanks everyone for asking about my interview. It's a bit complicated, but I'm in a law/public policy program, and it was an interview for a job for NEXT summer - it's government, so it takes a while to work things out! It was a great meeting and the interviewer was a lot of fun. I'm still not sure where I want to go though...we'll see.

Sounds like everyone is keeping up with their exercise, even going into the third week - this is fantastic. Last month, it seemed more difficult somehow. It's so great to have such a motivated team!

PP! I'm so happy to hear that you've overcome a health issue by sticking to this WOE and to the exercise! That's really the best sort of news a person can hear. Stick with the challenges and keep wowing the doctors :D .

Rose, congratulations on being so close to your first goal! Really gun it for the rest of the month, and I'm sure you'll make it - maybe even surpass it  .

Nims - Congratulations on running a mile! I so wish that I could - apart from my bad knees, I've never been able to get into it. It must have been so exhilerating :D !

Smurl - I love pedicures! I really need one right now. As for rewards, I'm very much the same. Sessions with a personal trainer were one of my rewards for having lost weight this summer, for example. I like to make the rewards something that keeps me motivated to keep working toward my goal. An eliptical machine will be a great reward - and a great Christmas present!

KJ - Gotta love the baggy pants feeling. Actually, it drives me insane! I hate worrying that my clothes aren't sitting right on me and that I look rumpled at the office. All the same, it's not like a person can go shopping everyday! How are things going for you otherwise?

Val - I'm sure you're out doing insane amounts of exercise right now! Remember to take some downtime too  .

Ok ladies, my eyes are closing on me - gotta crash! Have a great day tomorrow - and GO TLC!

Happy Thursday TLC!

The day's just starting here and I feel like I'm full of energy! Pretty good considering it's been raining this morning, looks like the sun is going to break through for a bit.

smurl - saw your picture on the NSV post! You looked like you're beaming! I'm happy for you, keep up the great job!!!

Off to Curves for a workout - should be able to get that heart rate racing today!

Have a great day!

Hello, Team! Thanks for encouraging me to get down to my first goal - it is sooooo close. I need find the time to update my ticker ASAP. KJ, thanks for asking about my hair appointment reward. I want highlights. I have always been a blonde, but in the past couple of years it has been getting darker and darker. So, since I was born a blonde, I reserve the right to keep it that way! Lately, I'm startled to see my hair color in pictures of myself - total vanity, but I need to lighten up in more ways than one!

PP, congrats on the liver results. I am so thrilled to hear that you've improved your health. This is an awesome accomplishment. I want to follow in your footsteps! I gotta get my body fat percentage down!

Nims, thanks for sharing your running success stories. You are helping me stay motivated. I will think of you on my bike commute home and keep pushing up the hills!

And, Smurl, your elliptical reward sounds amazing. I know it will be worth the money.

I have in-laws coming into town today, so I may be AWOL for a few days. But, I will meet my goal of posting week day menus in my journal, so hopefully I can cruise by the team thread at least to read up on what you are all doing!

Thu Aug 23, 2007 2:04 pm

valkm

wow you guys are doing great! and did I read in the results so
far thread that we might have the most points so far this month?
Are we leading so far?

I would not be surprise, this is the kickingest team. And the
posts show we have not lost steam as we near the end of the
challenge.

I logged on to read some posts here to get motivated and you
guys get me motivated.

Such great exercise stuff, and a few who are doing the 90 minute
workout, I might try to aim for that and see how far I go.

I did just do a walk yesterday to balance my week. I do push it
days and then a sort of slack day.

I love to read about the challenges of finding new clothing for
the shrinking bods but to read about PP getting a clean bill of
health from this woe? I think that is amazing.

I don't think I am the only one who thinks these challenges are
the best things for really cementing some healthy habits...

Kick some cheek TLC!

congrats, pp, on the liver test results! it's helpful to hear those kind of hard facts from a medical professional.. i mean, it's great to feel great, but that kind of data really hits home to let you know you're improving your body and your health.

i'm doing well this week, 'cept the weather has been so crappy! maybe this weekend the sun will come out...? later on today i'm going to call my grandma to see what she found out about her lung biopsy from the other day.. oh and after that i get to see my new beau and maybe do some, uh, "strength training"... or would that be cardio, hmm.. or both.. guess it might depend.. :o

i had a nice workout at the gym last night, got back to the elliptical/treadmill routine - i was really flyin on the elliptical - my stronger quads are really serving me well these days! it's so encouraging, and makes me think ahead to my big walking/stair-climbing event with confidence! i am nearly halfway to my fundraising goal of $1000.

gonna get out for a long walk at lunch today - woo!
