Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

Hi,

Wonder if someone could help figure it out if what I ate yesterday could have triggered it...

For years (since I was a teen), I've known I was sensitive to sugar. Most of the time I have no troubles with it. Then again, sometimes eating a piece of cake will make me feel really bad (headache, nausea, dizzyness)... especially if what I've eaten in the day isn't balanced.

Most often, I have trouble if I'm too long without eating : at some point, my concentration fell, I get more tired or dizzy. If I don't eat by then, I'll turn oversensitive (my emotions turn crazy... I can burst in tears for absolutely no reason... the only thing I know in these instances is that I MUST eat). Maybe 15-20 min after I eat I get back to normal.

So I know this stuff, and usually I know why it started. Didn't have any incident since I've started SBD (beginning of July)... But yesterday night I did, and I'm not sure why... This morning also, but it was understandable, since I wake up later then ususally and my breakfast was about 5 hours later then my normal.

Anyways, here's my yesterday menu :

B : 1/2 cup NF yogourt + 1/2 cup raspberry and 1/3 cup pecans
S : Apple
L : Fish + cheese and salad (lettuce, some zucchini and mushrooms)
S : Celery + hummus
D : Pork with veggies (peppers, zucchini and celery) + cheese
S : Pop-corn (1 portion, light)

My supper was maybe at 7h00 and the pop-corn at 8. I started feeling bad at 10h00...

Could have been fatigue or stress related, since I was at the emergency room with my hubby (but then again, we knew he had a kidney stone, just needed some treatments... Hard on feelings, yes, but stressing ? Doubtful !!!)

With reflection, I should have tried to see a doctor... was already in a hospital after all ! But when I get like that, I'm not always logical (only things I could think of were that I wanted to be with my hubby (even though I could do much) and that I needed to eat !

If you can give me some pointers, I'll appreciate !

Is the yogurt free from added sugars?

You probably need more protein both at breakfast and am snack, rather than dairy + fruit + nuts at breakfast and just fruit at am snack.

Do you use good fats with lunch and dinner?

Did you go overboard with the hummus? Chickpeas can be high GL in large portions. I wouldn't suggest eating more than 2 Tbsp to ¼ cup hummus in a sitting.

Was this your first time having popcorn on SB? Perhaps that doesn't work for you, and you got reactive hypoglycemia from it.

Did you take any vitamins or anything like that? My sugar was going really low because of a med the doctor had prescribed. She told me to up my proteins to at least 30g per meal. Like if I have eggs, instead of 2 eggs, have 1 egg with 2 egg whites. Since I have done that, I have felt so much better! I still try to keep the protein minimal fat for obvious reasons. Maybe you could hard boil some eggs and have an egg with the apple. You could even not eat the yoke part to help with calories and fat if you would like!

I always go for food free of any added sugars. Most of the time, I find the addition of sugars doesn't make it taste any better anyways.

Since i took 1-2 Tbsp of hummus, it shouldn't have cause any troubles.

You're probably right about the proteins stuff. Most of the time I would eat the fruit in the afternoon, and some cheese in the morning (or I simply eat eggs for breakfast). I'll try to check on that.

Thanks !
