I am kinda needing someone to tell me if this is normal? I live in Missouri fo college and have NEVER had problems with allergies but I do have asthma, well in May my breathing was so bad and my chest so tight (not asthma related my peak flow was over 530) anyways so I took off to arizona for the summer because the pollen and weather there is great for my breathing (if that was the problem). So me and hubby went to AZ for 9 weeks over the summer and the minute I got out into arizona (actually on the drive there) it was like someone took a big weight off of my chest and I could breathe. Well we have been home now in missouri for about 1 month and the same thing again like at the beginning of the summer. I am actually staying indoors a lot but still it is like a heaviness in my chest and also like tightness in my throat but again my peak flow is way above normal. Is this common for allergies? I have never really had allergies before, and I am really getting sick of this. Thank God I graduate next May and I am moving back to Arizona, but if anyone can please respond you will really take some anxiety off of me.
Thanks
Christi

Yes that can be a side affect of allergies. Go talk to a dr. and see what he/she recommends!

Sweets,

I just happened to trip upon your post and I can reply! I have asthma, no known allergies, and asthma alone makes you feel like that when pollen gets thick! My asthma is pretty mild but when it happens as you described it feels like an elephant is sitting on your chest! I thought I was having a heart attack but after tests my heart and arteries are healthy as an ox!

My advice, move back to Arizona and stay there!! In the mean time get an inhaler for emergencies!

If you smoke and allergies can cause this. allergies alone can also cause it. Nerves can cause this ,a many different things can cause it. Go to doc and see what he says.Only way of knowing for sure.Good luck and feel better soon.
