Well, I lurked for a while on this board and got so many helpful tips. Then I posted a few (very few) times, now I'm going to try journaling. I've never done this before, journaled where somebody else could read it with my permission. But this seems like a very good way to keep track of my progress and stay on top of things.
So first, a little history. I'm 24 years old, and I have ALWAYS struggled with my weight. I was never obese, but always had a little bit more than I should. I'm 5'10'', and the biggest I ever got was 213 lbs, that was the summer before my senior year of college. Then I got mono, dropped 20 lbs without even trying, and started to feel really good about myself. So I started running 5 miles twice a day and eating no more than 700 calories. Can you say eating disorder? Kept that up for about 7 months and then my hair starting falling out...began experimenting with bulimia as a different form of weight control. All in all, I went through a very rough time...my weight was down to about 130 (very low on me, I have a pretty big frame for a girl) and all my friends kept telling me that I looked like a crack addict...good to hear! So then I started drinking ALOT and eating ALOT and my metabolism was all screwed up, my weight got up to 189 lbs. I graduated college and I was living in Charleston and my then-fiancee (now husband!!!! more on that later) was on deployment, he is in the Navy. I wanted to surprise him with how good I looked when he got back so from Jan 2003-May 2003 I went from 189 lbs to 145 lbs and I was looking GOOD!! I was running alot again and eating well, but one of those low-fat, low-cal diets...probably about 1400 calories a day. As soon as my sailor got back I moved to lovely Norfolk, VA and proceeded to gain all my weight back...it was hard to live with a boy and eat what he ate, when he ate (he is blessed with the metabolism of a hummingbird, he can eat anything and it NEVER shows). Our wedding was May 8, 2004 and I wanted to look better, so I started the South Beach diet and joined the Y. This was the last week in Feb.
In that time, I went from 203 lbs to 176 lbs and feel fantastic. My brand-new husband even says that I seem happier, which I believe, because I tend to get withdrawn if I'm unsatisfied with my body. I still have about 30 lbs to go, I would love to get back down to 145ish. The week of my wedding I kind of went off the diet and ate sweets, pizza, hoagie sandwiches, WEDDING CAKE, and whatever else I felt like, but I kept exercising, so I only gained one pound, which shocked and amazed me.
I'm redoing phase 1 to get rid of all the complete crap that I ate last week and kind of get in a good groove again. The thing I love about this diet is the convenience...I'm a nursing student, plus I work and I want to spend time with my new husband...I don't want to have to cook for 5 hours a day. I also love how I feel...so much energy. I quit caffeine the first time I did the diet, so I'm not dealing with that headache or withdrawl anymore.
None of my other posts will be quite this long, I just wanted to get some of this down. Thanks for reading and thanks for your encouragement. This is a great community of people!

Good morning to all!
I hope that everyone's day is going well so far...mine is just beginning...you know, that great time when there is just limitless possibility!
Does everybody exercise every day? Before my wedding I worked out 6x a week, but I'm thinking of dropping back to 4x. Will this slow my weight loss? I guess we'll just see!!!
Jess, your wedding stuff looks fab. The planning was seriously my favorite part...and I had planned and over-planned so that by the time the day got here there was really nothing left to do. What kind of service are you having? You mentioned being Catholic...
Have a "beachy" day... |

So today was a pretty good day, I'm tired of school but that is to be expected after having a week off and getting married and all!
Today's menu looks like this:
B: 1 whole egg, 2 egg whites, i slice ff cheese, and KETCHUP!!! This was the hardest part of the diet for me, and I'm so thankful that heinz put out the 1 suger version...anyhoo, I had chai tea as well, that stuff is addicting!
S: sf jello, celery w/ff cream cheese
L: Greek beans, salad with chicken salad, water
S: Veggie burger and marinated mushrooms
D: Haven't had it yet, but I made the Confetti beans from this website. We'll see how they turn out...I hope they're good because the recipe made ALOT!!
Exercise: 4 mile run, 40 min elliptical, some free weights...
It looks like I eat alot, but I work out so hard that I couldn't imagine eating any less...I'm still losing, though, so I guess it's okay. I'm also going to stop weighing myself every day...the fluctuations depress me too much.
Hope everyone who stumbles across this is having a great day...feel free to drop me a line!!!

Hey Jenn,
Congratulations on your marriage!!! :D And also on your great weight loss success! :D I weigh 170 right now and I too want to go down to 145ish. But you are doing great!! I wish I had the will to exercise as much as you do. But hopefully I'll be starting pilates next week. I also began walking this week, so we'll see.
Keep up the good work and I know that we will all be at our desired weight someday soon!! :D |

Today was an okay day...my hardest time of the day is right when I get home from school/hospital (nursing student). I am so hungry that I want to eat anything and everything that I can find. Today I was bad and had fudgesicles AND jello AND cool whip, so I went totally over my limit of sweet treat calories. Oh well...I guess all I can do is try harder next time.
here is my menu for the day
B: 2 eggs, cheese, ketchup, milk
S: some lf velveeta cheese (it is hard to snack at the hospital, we're usually very busy)
L: salad with chicken, greek beans
D: ? I have to work tonight (I wait tables at a steakhouse, so I'll probably grab something little when I get home.)
Question: Does anyone limit their eating after a certain hour? A woman in my class said that she lost 45 lbs by never eating after 6pm. There is no way that I could do that...I just wondered if anybody out there put a stop time to their eating. Thanks in advance!
Oh, and I didn't work out today...and I'm not going tomorrow or Sunday either...I have CPR class tomorrow and I have to work on Sunday... |

Hey Jenn,
It's me again!! Well, I've noticed that if I too stop eating arfter 6 pm, I loose more weight. My metabolism doesn't break down food after 6pm!! So, I really have to not eat anything. Try it for a week and see what happens. Maybe you're different. But I definetely agree with that woman! :D Well, keep up the good work and have a wonderful day! |

I had a pretty busy weekend, so I don't remember exactly what I ate...I know it was nothing bad, though! Everybody at work kept asking me why I was still doing the diet...they all thought I was just doing it until my wedding. But it is a lifestyle change, I think. I really like this way of eating and I'm going to try to maintain it!
I'm going to write more later at the end of the day...everyone have a great monday!!!!!!!! |

S: nuts, turkey
L: red, white and blue beans
S: greek beans, sf slurpee (crystal light...good stuff!!!)
D: salad with sirloin steak, blue cheese dressing
I didn't exercise today but I walked a whole lot while shopping...I'm going back on the program tomorrow!!!

Well, yesterday wasn't that great of a day...I'm starting my monthly visitor today and craved EVERYTHING yesterday...ended up making flaxseed muffins and eating one of those, then making peanut butter cookies (flourless) and eating like 4 of those. eeesh. Oh well, today is a new day and i can start over, right?
And I have GOT to start exercising! Didn't go yet again yesterday b/c hubby and myself were trying to figure out the name change/insurance thing...probably added to my frustration and eating.
I guess the good thing is I didn't binge on ice cream or anything...really wanted to, though! |

i hate that visitor!! .... she is a meanie... she makes me want EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD!!
hehehehe
but.. i think we just kinda suck it all in or something...because the weight always seems to go back to normal after she leaves...*shrug*
i think you wil be just fine working out 4 times per week... you are maintaining....
they say you only need to work out 3x a week to lose...so 4 should be great!!
I need to get my ass in gear and work out 6x a week!! |

I was very nervous today to weigh-in at the gym because I have eaten lots of bad stuff and definately not been working out as much as I should have been...got on the scale and totally weighed in at 171!!! So I've officially lost 32 lbs...I'm getting so excited...now I'm only 4 lbs away from the weight I claim on my drivers license!!
I ate sporadically today...
B: Peanut butter cookies from website (craving, HAD to have them!) and decaf
S: String cheese, edemame
L: Veg patty, celery w/hummus, marinated mushrooms
D: filet (from Lonestar) w/veggies and a caesar side salad
S: sf/ff fudgesicle and some cool whip
I guess the best part of this diet is the fact that even when I "cheat," it isn't all that bad. At least I'm not eating ice cream and big macs every day like I used to...and it doesn't take as much to make me full any more.
I exercised today for the first time in awhile...felt iffy buy was very happy with myself.
ran 1 mile and did elliptical for 60 min, then did lunges and stuff. I think I'm taking a cardio kick-boxing class tomorrow...I need to do some serious toning work on my legs!!!
Have a great rest of the day everybody!!! |

Nice to meet you! It is wonderful that you are doing the lifestyle thing rather than "dieting" until your wedding; if you can get married, go to nursing school, wait tables and work at the hospital and do sbd.....and exercise like you do....wow....it is an inspiration to all of us!
I have quite a bit more to lose than you; started at 272 and have lost only about 6-7 lbs...I have only been getting to the Y about once or twice a week.....but, I am a teacher and in grad school with three daughters to keep up with; I am only taking one class this summer, and I am going to try to exercise X6....and get the old metabolism going; I like water aerobics because I have had surgery on both my knees, and have a bad ankle from doing gymnastics as a teenager... Where is the recipe for the peanut butter cookies? I think I'd love those....
Good Luck! |

Today has been pretty good so far...one of the best things about being in the hospital is getting to help and feeling like I'm making a difference. That is pretty much why I got into nursing...I'm still in school, but I know that this is the career for me!
Anyhoo, I didn't work out today and probably won't tomorrow b/c hubby and I are going to some concert...should be fun and I might drink for the first time in 3 weeks...I'd better be careful!
So I don't know what I'm having for dinner, but here's what I've had so far today...
B: Mock oatmeal, V8
S: Flaxseed muffin
L: Cabbage and hamburger casserole (leftover), string cheese
S: Leftover chicken salad, "root beer float" (frozen ff cool whip in diet root beer...I love it!!!!)
D: ???
So I really think my goal of 155 by 8/1 is doable...I have a little over two months to lose 14 lbs...and by that time, I'll be bikini-ready just in time for our delayed honeymoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everybody have a great day!!!! |
