| I've been suffering from this for a few weeks. I'm going to see my doctor Thursday. When I stand up after sitting for a little bit, I get really dizzy and feel like I'm going to black out. Anyone else have this experience? If so, any idea what caused it? |

I have hypotension (not the postural one thought).
Hypotension isn't dangerous or anything, but can be annoying sometimes.
Increasing your water intake can help. Hypotension can also be linked to low sodium in your diet (which doesn't mean you should increase it ! Talk to your doctor first !).
Try to make an habit to use your hands to push yourself up when you get up. Pressure on your hands will make the blood go higher, which can help avoid some of the dizzyness.
Keep us posted ! |

I had something similar to this (don't know what they called it, so don't know if it was the same exact thing or not), a year ago this last May.
For me, I don't know if it was my thyroid levels being low, or low iron, or just the change of season, or a combo of all three (which is what I think it was).
have you had your iron levels checked lately?
My Dr. had me take a medicaine called Meclazine, and it helped me a lot. The problem went away after I took it for a few days, and I've never had it since.
Another thought would be Meneer's (sp?) disease, which is a disorder of the inner ear(which is where our balance control center is, so people who have Meneer's feel dizzy or light headed), but I believe it only occurs in older people (my dad, who is 64, developed it just a couple years ago).
Take care, and let us know how things go at the dr's.

My doctor has no idea what the deal is. My blood pressure was low when I went in but not "pathologically" low... It dipped when I sat up from lying down, and dipped even further when I stood after sitting. But my blood work was all fine and she said she had no clue.
I've become used to doctors being totally clueless. I had stomach problems for months last year and I saw specialists, was given a colonoscopy, was told I had all kinds of wacky things wrong with me, was told it was "just stress" and it was all in my head, blah blah. I finally figured out via the internet that I had a cashew allergy and/or intolerance and was consuming far too many cashews. I cut them out and immediately recovered.
Sorry, just a little bitter. ;) Maybe I'll just stick with WebMD ;) |

Sorry your doc didn't find what was going on... Unfortunately (or fortunately), with low blood pressure sometimes is just the way your body is reacting. There's not always a definite cause to it.
Since it's something quite new in you case, I would suggest to try investigating if you don't go back to your normal.
Btw, I totally understand your feeling towards doctors... for some reason, my body is often under-reactive (for exemple, I can have all the symptoms of a fever, but my temperature won't bulge. It happened even at times when I was diagnosed a couple days later for something that would cause fever)
Can really be frustrating sometimes. My mother had to see a few doctors before one found out what she had. The "funny" part was that the doctor who found out was an associate of a doctor who had prescribed a visit to the psychiatrist to my mother ! |
