I get that all the time! If only I would lose weight when I got sad or anxious.... When my house burned down, I lost mega weight and thought I had cancer!! I think that is funny now, but I was freaked out then.
I figured out that I eat what I shouldn't or eat too much for two main reasons:
1. cravings caused by insulin resistance which are usually caused by eating food that I shouldn't :D
2. social situations (everyone else is doing it...)
The first one is the reason why my weight skyrocketed...stupid PCOS!
I long to join a "real" women's gym. Curves just ain't working for me. I wish I had one nearby. :(
As you can tell if you are reading this or noticed the time I posted, I did not make my 11:30 bed time tonight. :( |

Team Less Cheeky it is! - Valkm, and Nims99 - I don't believe you voted, now that I look back at the posts - are you cool with Team Less Cheeky for our name?
Smurl, is there any reason in particular why you're not keen on joining a co-ed gym? I only ask because I have found that many co-ed gyms are fairly easy-going and I haven't felt uncomfortable with the fact that men are around. However, a women's only gym is ideal in many ways - for one thing, women don't stand around trying to outdo each other in the weights area! Granted, it sometimes makes for some interesting entertainment while I'm chugging along in my cardio workout  . I really do have a hard time getting my strength training workout done at the gym and have to pick the right time to go, otherwise it's just not happening.
Oi, and social situations - I've been sliding on that front lately and need to tighten up. I have a dinner tonight with a prof and two of my friends - we're all his former students. I'm sticking to soup and a salad, or protein and veggies. And a glass of wine
Happy exercising everyone! |

Cheeky--I have always been a member of a co-ed gym, and they were okay, but I never really felt that I got the kind of support that I do at Curves. I like that they know who I am and that they say hello to me when I come in and they ask how my life is going. I guess I feel like a person there. I never felt that way at the other gyms I went to. Plus, as you can see by my #s, I am still a large gal, and I do feel a sense of self-consciousness when I work out in a co-ed gym. And the last one I belonged to was terrible. The people who worked there were judgemental and demeaning. Then Gold's Gym moved to town and they are begging people to join them!
All that said, the gym I want to join is a family rec center. It has an indoor and outdoor pool and all kinds of other activity possibilities, which is very appealing to me. Diversity in exercise is so important, which is why I am thinking of ditching Curves. But this gym requires me to take a bus that requires a transfer. So, instead of it taking me and hour and 20 minutes to walk to the gym, workout, and walk back, it would take me three hours or more to take the bus, workout, and come back. :(
Oooo, dinner with a prof. Makes me miss my profs. Tonight is the last night of my summer class, and we are having a big party and my students are all making their favorite treats, which includes brownies and cookies and all kinds of stuff that aren't on my list. My strategy: small bites! Have a good time! |

Smur - I am very bored with Curves. I only go cause it's cheap and I like the people. I've met a lot of great people there. We do have another women's place in town called Contours. A lot of Curves people have switched to them. They have butt & gut classes too, which I could use!
I tried the co-ed club in town. No one said hi to you and the aerobic class was soooo crowded. You could never get on the weight machines you needed and I just felt out of place. I finally gave up!
I do love the new class I'm taking and I will probably quit Curves soon. I think I would benefit more walking on the treadmill and using some free wieghts! Most of the ladies at Curves spend more time exercising their jaws and not moving from station to station. But it was a good start for me and got me through a stall.
Speaking of which - time to put my hour in at Curves! I do 3 laps and hool a hoop a while and then stretch and keep up on the town gossip!
TLC - like it! |

Thanks so much to all for commiserating about my killer commute yesterday. I just wanted to complain, and I'm thankful for the support of my team during a cranky moment! I was soooo bummed to miss my work out yesterday.
However, I've already had a GREAT workout this morning. I rode my bike to work this morning (no subway, thank you), and I made great time. Followed that up with a nice stretch - thanks for the inspiration to spend more time stretching, KJ.
Team TLC is a great name. Go team!
I hear you all on your gym discussion. It's hard to find a good fit. I spent about 10 years working in gyms, and I always drifted toward the family friendly rec centers, university gyms, etc. I'm so spoiled right now, because I have a gym downstairs in the building that I work in. It's not full of meat-heads, and it's so nice to be able to get ready and take the elevator up to my floor. It's not too crowded and the staff is so friendly.
Have a great day all! |

pp--I think it is amazing how much I have learned about myself since going on SB. I know that I must have variety...classes, swimming, circuit, free weights--if I am to keep up with regular exercise, yet that is very limited for me right now.
My university gym is small, and I really don't care for working out with my students. It is just so awkward, but I am thinking of going swimming everyday after classes this semester. I really miss swimming daily. I was spoiled at my last university. We had a HUGE rec center and pool. So nice.
Rose--I am mega jealous! And I just heard that some of the flooding you saw yesterday was from tornado-related weather! A tornado touched down in Brooklyn! What the?? |

Just a note regarding Curves. Took my heart rate last two laps and it was in the 85% range, which is good. I was the only one there, so no excuse not to push it.
Guess that could be one of my goals next week - keep my heart rate up! |

whoa - RT - one killer commute, indeed. but so glad you were able to ride today! wheeee.
i belonged to a womens' gym for a year and a half, and really enjoyed it. it was *healthworks* up in boston..they only have locations around there, as far as i know. really lovely facilities, and i miss it! however there were a lot of annoying girls in their late teens working out there usually. otherwise, it was a great place to go - kept up very nicely, plus they played classical music in the locker room! and there was a big whirlpool and sauna... well now i belong to the Y, which is much cheaper but the facilities are not as elegant. good people, though (i guess). and a girl i knew in middle school works there.
had a long, hot, and humid walk at lunch today around the city - man there are some beautiful rowhomes lining these streets - too bad they cost zillions of dollars. well i shouldn't complain - i'm moving into a pretty great apartment in the city next month, which is nothin to sneeze at! and the 25-minute walk to and from work will be sweeeeeet.
TLC, baby!

Wow, you gals are posting!
I won't name teams but one I was on - they just
did not post during our challenge - I was the most
frequent one posting...
I logged on here for my end of midweek check on
things and saw how much this team is doing - this
is not a boring lot - a tornado in Brooklyn?! and
Team Less Cheeky (yes) and all the great exercising
going on.
I have been busy racking up the points.
Earning points is a constant thing. If I get insomnia
I do some stretches (for 15 mins - love this additional
way to earn points).
I get up early to go walking on a great walking trail (makes
the time just fly by).
I swap out two sets of dogs and some days actually end
up getting in two cardios in the a.m.
Then I squeeze in a few strength trainings during the week
(this is during day or evening I do these).
I have incorporated a new habit - I went again this morning
to the corner store to get fresh, ice cold lettuce and have
the whole thing to eat (this was a goal to get one cup of
salad/vegetable each day in past challenge). This fluffs
out my meals. This is exciting - a goal becoming a habit!
I have learned to always put a goal as 5/7. This gives me one
day to slack off (Mondays after the big weekend push) and one
day to be too busy to do it.
Love this challenge and great to be with such active posters.
GO TLC - Everyone have a great points filled day! |

Hi Val--Sounds like you are really doing great! It has been so doggone hot here, I have been concerned about overheating and heat stroke. It sure curbs the appetite, though.
I bet it wonderful walking on your trail. I miss living near a walking path. All I got is the mean city streets. :D |

Hi Everyone -
Just a quick note - super tired from my dinner out!
It sounds like everyone is doing well and keeping on top of their goals - and Val, way to kick some serious butt! You should be captain of Team Less Cheeky  .
No exercise for me today, as I had my dinner out tonight. Frankly, the food was not very good overall, and I was not perfectly beachy - had a couple of bites of dessert, and a couple of bites of the noodles that came with my tuna steak (badly done). I know that what I really have to work on is my eating - and I'm just going to keep going.
To the gym tomorrow!
Happy and safe exercising everyone! |

Morning Y'all!
Feeling lazy today - and I figure it's ok if I get into work at 8:30, instead of my usual 8:15 - what a rebel, eh?
I hope everyone has fun things planned for this weekend - and active things too! I've got my workout times all planned out, and I think I'm going to add some rowing in for my cardio at the gym - try something that I haven't done in quite some time. It will also be something new to do that will work out my leg muscles in a different way, but be less stressful on my knees. My knees, my knees! I hate them, but I need them, so gotta work with them  .
I've also planned a beachy day of eating today WHICH I WILL NOT DEVIATE FROM. And one of my tasks tomorrow will be to make myself a lunch menu for the upcoming week. Lunches are where I'm screwing up the most.
OH! Gotta go! I'm going to be really late now!!
Everyone - be less cheeky today! |

teehehee, it is a great name.
certainly trying to be less cheeky - and trying to stay away from the scale, which i can usually do pretty well - but this morning i stepped on and was 2 pounds heavier than last saturday.. hrmph. i know this week for me was that crazy ole TOM, and i totally pigged out last night, and maybe i'm building more muscle, and yadda yadda natural fluctuations yadda - but it still sucks to see first thing in the morning. :(
...but i will not be a slave to the scale!! so there.
:) and tomorrow morning before my friend rolls into town i'm going to an early *core ball* class - meaning core work, with one of those huge balls i guess. should be good. i haven't done the best with exercising this week, bonus points, etc - and for that i apologize - but tomorrow is another day!
may i stay focused this weekend and not drink too much...but also, may i have a great time being young and very, very hip. ;) |

Hi TLC,
Kelly, I'm a slave to my scale too - everyday. On the Official SB web-site, when I was a member, there was a thread about scale routines. It was pretty funny reading what everyone does before they step on that scale!
My weight has been bouncing around a couple down, one up! I'm hoping by Sunday it will settle down.
Val, Great to hear from you - sounds like you have a busy life! I heard from someone else that their July challenge team just faded away. She could have been on your team. Too bad, hopefully with the end of summer push everyone will stick it out!
Cheeks, I think you did good eating out! Remember when you would have ate it all? At least you showed you're in control now! Be proud of yourself! Too bad the food wasn't good, it makes you feel like you wasted your one night out (food wise that is!)
We live on a busy country road and there's no safe place to walk. I see people from time to time riding bikes or jogging, but it really isn't safe. The speed limit is 45 mph, but people go more like 60. They are building a new subdivision a couple blocks away and I think that will be a safe place to walk. When I lived in the city I use to love to walk and check out everyones flowers!
Off to Curves - Hope to keep my heart rate up again! I would love to be less cheeky! |

Hello, TLC gals.
Val, you're right, this is an active posting team. I like it! I must admit that I was not the best poster (am still not, probably). But, I made being more active here a goal, because I found that when I made a little time to check-in I followed better eating and exercising habits.
Smurl - I know! Tornado in Brooklyn, that the... Lots of property damage, but thankfully no people damage. Apparently the last tornado in Brooklyn was in 1889!
Everyone have a great weekend! KJ, I am also going to have a hip, young, enjoyable weekend with friends. Also, I have a great long bike ride planned for Saturday with a friend. We are going to ride over the George Washington Bridge to New Jersey and ride a path in the Palisades that is new to me. I am looking forward to the adventure! And, to getting some exercise - this week has not been the best for me. |
