Hi - I'm writing this to request prayers and well thoughts for my sister-in-law. She's about 30, and around 4 or 5 years ago she had gasteric bypass surgery.
Now, I know some people on this board has had this surgery and had it change their life for the positive. I personally am choosing to do SB to lose weight instead of going the surgery route.
At first, Tonia had little problems after her surgery. She has indeed lost a lot of weight - at least 150 lbs, maybe more. But she's encountered many other health issues related to the surgery. She's had numerous kidney stones. She's got very low iron, etc. I can't recall all of the things she's encountered during the past few years. (She didn't have any health conditions before the surgery, except for being so overweight. She was a candidate for many conditions in the future had she stayed at that weight)
Right now, she's lying in a hospital bed at the second major hospital she's been to this week alone. About a month and one-half ago, she had the reconstructive surgery to remove excess skin at her waist, and she also elected to have both her underarms done as well. The plastic surgeon removed around 17 pounds of excess skin. He also "thightened" her ab muscles (whatever that means).
Tonia seemed to get through this surgery well and recovered OK. Then suddenly she's having so much pain in her side and gut that at times she can barely stand up, she can barely move, she's screaming in pain, etc. At first this week she went to the ER of the largest hospital in our area, they ran tests, bloodwork, scans, etc and nothing wrong showed up.
She's now back at the hosptial where the reconstructive surgery was performed, and they are coming up with the same thing - nothing is showing on the tests that indicates why she would be in so much pain.
She's got 3 little ones at home, all under 12, that need her very badly. Please pray that the doctors discover what is causing Tonia this pain and that they can help her right away.
Tonia has shared with me that if she knew this surgery route was going to be so hard on her for so many years, she would not have done it. I personally am trying to do SB and exercise so that I don't have to take that drastic of a step.
I know other people have had bypass surgery and have had no problems. I don't mean to cause offense by this post. I'm just looking at a loved one in pain and saying to myself "Please God, help me lose weight some other way."
Thank you. |
