Okay, I taped Dateline (or whatever news show it was) last week because they were doing an exclusive on moms who are trying to lose weight, and the methods they are using. They showed a mom who used SBD first. She and her husband were very enthusiastic about how it changed the way they will eat forever, how healthy it is, etc., etc. All fine and good. She wanted to lose 30 pounds. She said that during P1, she lost 9 pounds, but once she started P2, she started losing very slowly. Then, she said that after six months on P2, she only lost 3 more pounds!!! So, she only lost a total of 12 pounds in 6 1/2 months! Could it be that this woman was eating too much or cheating a lot and didn't say so?? I need to lose 20 pounds, and I have no problem with losing it slowly, but I don't want it to take 6 months to lose 12 pounds! I was hoping to lose 3-5 pounds/month and be at my first goal by July/August, and my second goal by the end of the summer!
Any comments? Reassurance? Anything?? |

Many of us have been very successfull on SBD. I've met my goal (I'm actually below it) and since starting Phase 3, I've continued to lose a bit of weight.
If you check out past posts on these forums, you'll find plenty of us who have had success with SBD. It doesn't work for everyone, but it works for many people.
Also, weight loss will occur at different rates in different individuals. Generally speaking, healthy weight loss occurs at a rate of 1-2 lbs per week. At the rate, you will be losing more fat than muscle (you will always lose some muscle when losing weight) and you are more likely to keep the weight off.
Don't be discouraged! Since you only have 20 lbs to lose, the weight may come off more slowly than for someone who has a lot of weight to lose, but it should come off! |

Thepug- I agree with Caylynn that it's a good to target about 1-2 pounds a week. I think that I have done so well on SBD because not only do I follow the eating guidelines, but I have also increased my level of activity. I still don't have membership to a gym, but I work out on a regular basis by walking. So I think it you follow the guidelines the book has set, and maybe try to increase your activity level some, you'll do fine.
p.s. Do you have pugs? |

| No, it's just the ridiculous nickname my husband gave me because of my nose. Thankfully, it doesn't look like a *real* pug's nose! |

Didn't see the show but if she lost that little weight, she was doing something wrong, I think. Despite what the book may lead us to believe (it's very contradictory), you DO have to watch portions and exercise regularly.
Well, I do anyway. I've lost slowly but consistently - 28 lbs in 15 weeks. Sweets do not tempt me but rich food does and if I have too much cheese, salad dressings, nuts, or olive oil, I know darn good and well that I will stall. |
