Hi! I've only been doing SB for about 3 weeks, and I can tell a HUGE difference in my ability to taste things. I've heard smokers who quit go through a stage in which they reclaim their ability to smell and taste, but could it be possible I'm experiencing this too?
Not only have my cravings for processed foods almost vanished, but now I'm "craving" the healthy foods. Like the other day, I could have killed for a big fresh garden salad.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have completely lost my appetite for a few things. Before SB I was almost a Coke Hound, drinking a few cans of the "Real Thing" each day. Recently I took a drink and gagged - I couldn't believe how sweet it tasted! I know there's like 10 teaspoons of sugar in each can of Coke, but when I was drinking Coke daily, it never tasted sweet to me.
And pork - I can't eat it anymore. In fact, I've turned so far away from eating red meat and replaced it with turkey, chicken, etc., that my doctor said my iron is low. I thought perhaps I grabbed the wrong vitimens last time and got the iron-free version. But nope, they have iron in them. So it's got to be the change in my eating meat?
Can anyone else share their experiences? |

| I love raw fresh veggies now... When I used to eat them, I smothered them in sauce, dressing or butter... but now I like the flavor of the veggie itself and don't want a bunch of stuff covering their flavor. :D |

| My tastes have totally changed as well too. I used to crave stuff like pizza and burgers for dinner pre-SBD but now when I think about what I want for dinner it is almost always some grilled chicken or pork with a nice big side of steamed veggies. I also cut out all diet sodas over the past couple months and a week or so ago I tried a Coke Zero and it was too sweet for me. Occasionally I will make some Crystal Light lemonade but I have to make it half strength to stand it. Who would have thought the artificially sweetened stuff would be too sweet for me! I think this way of eating really can change your tastes especially when it comes to the processed or sugar filled stuff. Once your body realizes it is getting the good stuff it doesn't want the crap. |

Your iron doesn't have to be low without red meat...
Beans, Turkey, Lentils, Clams, Spinach, Shrimp, Turnip Greens, Oysters, Peas, Chocolate!, Tomato Juice, SoyMilk, Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, Strawberries, Oatmeal, Egg and Mushrooms all add iron to your diet. Try incorporating some of these.
You can also cook in a cast iron skillet which helps! Crazy sounding..but true.
Your body will absorb more iron from these foods if you eat them with something containing Vitamin C at the same meal. |

| I have noticed the same as the rest of you. Sweet things are sweeter, sometimes too sweet! I have been craving the healthy foods as well...especially asparagus! How funny! Before I would only buy asparagus when in season and about $1.50/pound (usually feb/mar time of the year). I paid $3.50/pound and was grateful to get some! |

| Teeteehawk - do you have a Sam's club avaiable? I don't remember for sure what I paid last week, but I think it was less than $3/# and it consistenly good. Its a pound and a half, and I only buy it every couple of weeks, but we roast it in the oven or grill it - yum!!! |
