I am on day 11 of phase 1. I have been following it like I should be, I believe. I exercise---usually a couple miles on the treadmill and situps or some light weight reps for arms and legs, then situps.
I haven't lost anything. I'm so frustrated, especially when I read about the typical loss when following the diet. I am going to stick through day 14, but if I don't lose any by then, I want to quit. I'm allergic to a LOT of foods, so basically, it's meat, veggies, 15 almonds and soy butter on celery-oh and black tea in the morning. That's it. I feel awful some days, and it isn't worth it if I'm not going to lose. |

| can you please post a more specific menu with what you eat and when during the day? what is your current height/weight? how much are you looking to lose? what was your diet like prior to starting SB? when you weigh yourself, is it at the same time and in the same conditions every time? there are a lot of factors that need to be considered before we can give any advice on why you may not be seeing results. |

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping someone can point out any mistakes I'm making.
What I typically eat:
Breakfast:
1 bratwurst
tomato juice
black tea
Snack
15 almonds
Dinner
beef or chicken and veggies
Snack
celery w/soy butter
I am 1/4 inch under 5'. I weigh 130. I would love to lose 20, but would be ok with 10. Around 112-115 is very acceptable to me. |

the bratwurst is decently lean--it's an organic type and not grissly at all.
I have purchased some turkey sausages as well. I do not eat any meat that has been preserved or have additives, such as ham, bacon, etc.
What I typically ate before....
rice cereal or gluten free bread/waffles
coca (made w/bittersweet choc and rice milk)
meats w/veggies and rice or rice noodles
salads w/tuna or seasoned meat
snacks: rice cookies sweetened w/fruit juice
apples
grapes
sometimes: corn nuts, corn chips---not often though |

Sometimes the healthier you ate prior to doing south beach, the slower it comes off- there is less of a shock to your system so to speak. I also have experienced the same thing. Also, it doesn't seem like you are severely overweight or have a lot to lose, so sometimes that is a factor. Be sure to drink enough water.
My one concern is the brat, that sounds like it would be high in saturated fat. Also, you can eat dressing on your salad, and probably should- even just olive oil and vinegar to get in the good fats. Lastly, you didn't describe how the meats or your dinners are prepared- that is important. |

I typically roast my meats, or if I occasionally fry them, I do it in olive oil.
Do you think turkey sausage would be any better or about the same? I'm not a big meat person in the morning. I've never eaten so much meat in my life.
So, if the morning meat is where I'm going wrong, do I need to start all over? |

| I was eating a lot of veggies before this diet, so that's not too different for me. |

A few thoughts:
1) Try to avoid frying the meats- go for broiled, grilled or baked- even though its in olive oil and that's a healthy fat, there is still a lot of calories being soaked up into the meat
2) You don't have to eat a lot of meat. Protein doesn't necessarily equal meat. Try eggs or egg whites for breakfast with some peppers or cucumber slices. Or look on the recipe threads for Ph. 1 breakfast ideas like the flaxseed pancakes- yummy!! Hummus is protein and can be eaten with veggies, also eat lots of beans. If you feel like you're eating too much meat, you probably are.
3) Since breakfast can get dull on ph. 1 with eggs, think out of the box. You don't have to eat "breakfast foods" only; leftover turkey chili is good.
I don't know how long you are into Ph. 1. If you are very far, almost done, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to do another week revisited with some changes. If you just started, making changes now should be ok, in my opinion. Remember that the point of ph 1 is balancing blood sugar and eliminating sugar/carb cravings. I hope this was helpful. Hopefully, some of the more seasoned vets will see your post and put in their ideas too. They are all really helpful and know their stuff! |

| oops, just saw you are 11 days in. I would revisit ph. 1. This is really a great diet, don't give up on it yet- try some new things and check out the recipe threads. I know you are allergic to some things (you didn't specify) but perhaps you can make substitutions that will work for you. |

Thanks.
I am allergic to dairy (milk, cheese, etc.), eggs, legumes (beans included), and a few other things. I can eat eggs baked in things, but not in the "regular" way of making them.
I will take a look through the recipes and see if there is anything I can do.
I picked up a can of soy black beans yesterday. I'll see if they are any good, and if so, that will be great for soups, etc. I love soup!
I don't fry usually, just if I do a stir-fry type of meal.
Thanks so much. |

| Wow, that does make it difficult with all of those allergies! You can do it though, you'll just have to be creative. The recipe thread is a real life saver. Good luck! |
