I'm finally getting some exercise! Guess how?

Hi everybody! If you know me, then you know I hate, I mean HATE to exercise! And I have not done one lick of it since I started SBD almost 8 months ago. I was so delighted that I was able to lose so much weight so quickly w/o moving my butt. I lost 40 lbs in the first 4 months, and I was ecstatic! So I tried to encourage others, like me, who hate to exercise to start SBD anyhow---I told them they too could lose weight w/o doing one lap around the block! But I KNEW it was wrong.... I mean, we all need some exercise, right?

Well, I finally found my niche....

I've been legally blind since birth, so I've never been allowed to mow the grass. Not until I was in my late 20's when I had to move back home to mom's, because dad had just died... I have no brothers or sisters, so it was just mom and me. And now she really needed my help. So I finally got to mow the grass, and it was a very small yard. I LOVED it! Just a pushmower, you know? But it became a passion for me. To mow those clean stripes of freshly cut grass gave me such satisfaction. You cannot imagine!! And then my vision only got worse. I'm now 39 and am still not allowed to get behind a pushmower anymore. :(

So I had cataract surgery, which helped! But still, my mom and husband are terrified for me to mow!! And I'm so disappointed, because I want to cut the pretty stripes into the yard. It's like vacuuming the yard, only more fun!

And I'd been begging for one of those old fashioned engineless mowers. The old kind with just a blade. No engine, no spark plugs, no gas, no problem!! It's a push-reel mower. It's completely safe, and I'd been wanting one for a couple of years now. My DH surprises me yesterday with one! A brand new beautiful push reel mower! Now, I know you must think I'm nuts! We've got a HUGE yard! At least 2 acres of grass, and 3 more of woods. Well, 2 acres is a LOT~! And the push reel doesn't cut everything, so you have to go over it again and again.

Alright, it doesn't do near the job an engine mower can do! But I'm LOVING it! It's quiet, and fun, and my dog goes nuts barking at the thing, and I get the same satisfaction of cutting my stripes again! And best of all, it's completely safe for me to use!

Only problem, you have to pick up all the sticks in the yard first, or you're gonna have trouble!! Figured that out pretty quick. So I'm FINALLY moving my butt and doing some sort of 'exercise' and I'm happy knowing I'll be burning off those calories.

I can't wait to get outside and mow some more today! I plan to do it every day. At least a half hour a day to start.

I've finally found something to get me moving! :D So that is the key--you've got to find something you love to do.

Good for you, Bunny! I love mowing with a reel mower...all the great fragrance of freshly cut grass, none of the stinky exhaust!
