I started SBD 1/5/08 & lost 6 lbs in first 2 weeks, then another 2 in the following week 1 additional week of phase 1. Since then I hover between 8-10 lb wt. loss for which I'm thankful.
I feel great now. The best part is that I'm not constantly hungry or craving sweets! The first week was tough. But once I learned I needed to drink more water it improved. I would get very fatigued & cranky & my legs felt like they had weights attached.
I've had a few birthdays so have had maybe 4 days of eating my old way- no discipline & lots of sweets! I have not gained, nor have I lost any more. I do feel, however, that I've changed my eating habits. I've dropped a size in clothing- wt loss distributed all over & primarily off my butt! (lost some belly fat but not a lot). I have eaten some SBD cereal, snack & breakfast bars (1 box of each type of bar total). I think I'll stop the bars- but they are soooo easy!
I don't eat a lot of fruit, no pasta, potatoes or bread. I have eaten more than the alotted nuts, peanut butter, fat free cool whip & have sugar free gelatin for dessert at night. I also drink unsweetened soy milk daily- about 1-2 cups daily. I truly enjoy all the veggies (& eat quite a bit of them inclusing salad) & different recipes.
I went to my yearly MD check-up last week. Some of my lab work came back w/ results I'm confused & concerned about. The labs that have improved significantly are: triglycerides (58 was126 & goal is <150>40). Confusing/upsetting values are: total cholesterol 208 increased from 189 (goal is <200), LDL cholesterol increased to 143 was 117 (optimal <100). BUN was 23 (normal 6-20) & may just represent low fluid volume as I was fasting for the blood work (my creatnine was normal at 0.85 which represents kidney function). My urine showed trace protein w/ some WBCs & 1+ leukocyte estrace (subacute UTI? Possible cause of protein?). I also had a hemaglobin A1C (long range glucose levels) was 5.9 a value representing borderline diabetes. I don't have a baseline so don't know if this represents my 1 month of very poor eating habits prior to SBD. Except for the 4 days mentioned earlier, I eat very few sweets.
