| I have tried every diet under the sun. I recently bought the SBD book and have yet to open it! I am so weak and have no willpower. I am 48 yrs old, weight 315 and am a diabetic. Other than telling me to read the book (i already know that) and start excercising (also know that - but 2 weeks ago underwent knee surgery, so that's on hold). I have been overweight my ENTIRE life and am already setting myself up for failure as it has happened every time in the past. My only sucessful weight loss was Atkins but I stopped that when I went on a cruise last year and I just can't get back on it!! HELP!!!!! |

| As with most things the hardest part sometimes is getting started. I suggest that you pick a day and circle it on you calender. You might try a day next week. That way you have enough time to get some of the groceries. Then work yourself up to the day. If you have a starting day then this will force you to read the book to be prepared. Another idea is pick a day that you want to loose so much weight for and set that as a mini goal. You know the answer to this question. YOU are the only one that can change your life. You have to do this for you, not a husband, child or family. You must want this to work or it is doomed to failure. Good luck and I will pray for you. :D |

| Hi and welcome. I have started more diets than I care to admit. Since I am a kid. I need to lose about 80 pounds. Sit with a pad and pen and open the book. Make a shopping list of foods on the plan that you like. You need to plan meals and take it one day at a time. This way of eating is a lifestyle. If you slip up get right back on. Good luck. |

| Once you pick up the book and start reading it you won't be able to wait another day to start! I read it on a Tuesday and started Wednesday and I'm one of those 'I have to start everything on a monday' type of person! Think positive and have realistic goals. I weigh myself once a month, and each month my goal is to lose 1 lb. so when it's more than that i'm thrilled, if it's only 1, I'm still thrilled!! |

Don't give up before you even begin! I bought the book to try to get myself healthy. I have atrocious eating habits, and I'm more interested in getting that under control.
Honestly, I read the book on Sunday night, and went to the grocery store immediately after. Although I am only on day 4, I already feel better cutting the bread and sweets out of my diet (even temporarily). The great thing about this plan is you get instant gratification. You wake up feeling better each day. Maybe it's because you know you are doing something good for yourself!
Read the book then jump in. We are all here for you! |

Hi, I am really glad you are thinking about starting SBD. I think it is a great way of life. That is how you should think of south beach, its not a diet. You should continue to eat this way for the rest of your life if you want to keep you weight off!
My first suggestion would be to go through you fridge and cupboards and clean out all foods that are not approved. If you don't have a lot of will power this will help you from cheating. Then I would make a shopping list. I like to plan my meals as I go but some people plan the whole week ahead whatever is easier for you. You may feel bad during the first few days of phase one. You body will be detoxing all the sugar and such. I personally did not feel this but I believe it depends on how much sugar and bad carbs you ate before you started. Remeber to drink a lot of water because you will lose a lot of water weight in the beginning. The water will help you from becoming deyhadrated (SP).
Good luck and let us know how you are doing! |
