| I have to tell you that Mother's Day was the hardest day on the diet so far. We (my sister-in-law,her children, myself and my children) planned a meal for my Mother-in-law. We planned a few things that could be had on the SBD and a few things that were her favorites, but I didn't care for. Well, I sit down at the table and my sister-in-law decided to change the menu and placed a German Potato Salad (one of my favorite dishes) right in front of me. That was hard!!! Not having the fruit smoothies was also very difficult. I did make it through dinner without cheating :D but it was tough. I was just wondering how everyone else did through Mother's Day? I imagine that holidays will be the hardest. Looking at graduation and wedding season, I am nervous. :? |

That must have been hard, but good for you, you perservered :) It is difficult when non-SBDer's are involved in meal/menu preparation. They just do not understand, or that's how it seems to me.
I did pretty good, at my mom's, had a tiny nibble of a cookie otherwise, I was legal, but not enough veggies.
I decided I was not going to cook dinner, so we had Dairy Queen. I know, BAD,but I had grilled chicken salad. And the planned cheat for the day, real ice cream from DQ.
So, I think I did OK.
Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day w/ your family. |

| Well I guess Mother's Day wasn't that much different than a normal Sunday for us. I cooked us some oatmeal in the morning as we had had eggs/omelettes two days in a row prior, Raspberries and blackberries were on sale (those small plastic containers at 5 for $1) and she really likes raspberries, so that was a semi-treat. Lunch was kind of catch-as-catch can in the middle of our errands. Dinner I cooked, some tenderloin filets her parents had sent us for the holidays wrapped in turkey bacon and grilled. Side dishes were a sweet potato and cauliflower, served with a nice aged (1991 Franciscan) Meritage (cab sauv/merlot blend). A bowl of sf/ff banana cream pudding for desert later on finished the day. All SBD-friendly and pretty good eats to boot! Heck, I even got the lawn mowed during the day as well! |

| Mothers Day was the first time since starting SBD 3 weeks ago that I had gone out to dinner. I did quite well. Had the Mediterannian steak and chicken combo with sauted veggies...was great! I've never been a huge bread or pasta person (and I'm Italian!) so it didn't even phase me when the bread came with the salad. In my pre-SBD days I used to just eat it cause it was there I think. Usually don't have dessert at restaurants cause I'm too full, so that was a breeze too. Had my ricotta creme later that evening and i was a happy camper. Happy (belated) Mothers Day moms. Keep up the good work! |

My wife and I picked of all days to start phase I - Mother's day
The planned dinner was a turkey from a local place that cooks them and then you pick them up and reheat them. You also get with it, Gravy, orange squash, MASHED POTATOES, and dinner rolls.
We decided we needed to bring SBD side dishes. We made the Ginger-Sesame asparagus and the nutty summer squash with asiago. Between those and the steamed broccoli with a squeeze of lemon juice, we had enough to eat.
The only thing that was tempting was the lemon merange pie someone brought. Not for the carbs, but because the merange was perfectly browned and in nice big spiraly peaks. However, we easily passed.
Nobody showed for dinner on time because of a bad traffic accident, so dinner was over 1 1/2 hours late, which threw off the rest of the day for eating. We had people over that night for a movie so we didn't wind up being able to have dinner, but we did have an extra snack. |

Mother's day wasn't a problem at our house, as I cooked dinner for the In-Laws. We had the pistachio chicken from the original book (it's a salad in the book, but we use the chicken as a main dish). Side dishes were steamed asparagus with mock hollandaise (I need to remember to quit freaking that it's curdling and let it thicken :) ), and a big tossed salad with tomatoes and green onions. Dessert was the White Chocolate cheesecake recipe that I found here with splenda sweetened strawberries. We also had a nice large bottle of Bolla Soave white wine with dinner.
Neither mom or dad are on SBD, but the food was good and it didn't matter!!! I don't think anyone missed the starches. |
